½ Price RRP Hamilton SPF 50+ Everyday Face 200ml $13.99, 75g $7.49 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ In-Store) @ Chemist Warehouse

1080

Hamilton sunscreen range is now 1/2 price at Chemist Warehouse, something that happens once a year.

Given that Aldi's Ombra Face Sunscreen has gone up from $3.99 to $4.99 for 60ml ($8.33/100ml), the 200ml Hamilton Every Face is now the best value, high quality Australian-made face sunscreen in my books at $7/100ml. The two formulas are almost identical, but the Hamilton has a small amount of iron oxides and appear slightly pink - it doesn't actually tint my face, just blends out invisible.

This is a cosmetically elegant formula that is meant for everyday use, not for swimming or for sports, as it has no water-resistance. Please don't compare the cost with all purpose family sunscreens for the whole body, because they are not made for the same purpose. This is light, non-sticky and non-greasy, wears beautifully over moisturiser or under make-up - something that you'll actually want on your face everyday. Those with oiler skin types can skip moisturiser and just use this. There's a smaller 75g at $7.49 if you want to try before buying the large size.

The Hamilton stuff is an excellent everyday moisturiser/sunscreen. Does not feel heavy or greasy like regular sunscreens. But it is not waterproof, so definitely not for sport activities.

    • what if youre sweating a bit? should still be fine?

      • I take care not to rub it in directly next my eyes. I have had instances in the past where sweat has made it run into my eyes and make them sting. Overall, its not a serious issue, you need to sweat a lot before that happens.

        • what if the activity gets hot and steamy, do i reapply mid activity? asking for a friend.

        • I also have issues with regular sunscreen stinging my eyes during sport and swimming.

During those activities I have to use zinc sunscreen. As a bonus it last so much longer even after swimming.

Bad news is that it’s very white and noticeable.

I like this and use it everyday - however, I did buy it on 30 August from CW and it was only $16.69
So this is a 16% reduction

    • +5

Yes it's 1/2 price for RRP, not 1/2 'Chemist warehouse price' (since CW hardly ever sells at RRP). In recent years, I've posted every time it's gone down to 1/2 price and it seems to happen once a year only.

      • +4

yeah so it's rather pointless doing a 1/2 price sale :)
basically like the supermarket practices which everyone is shitting on lately

but anyway, it's a good product

  • +1

Thanks OP. Do you have any recommendations for a more sports focussed sunscreen? I read the comments in the Nivea Amazon deal, and have sworn off the stuff.

    • +8

I use Demaveen Sensitive SPF50+ for outdoors since it's water resistant and less sticky/greasy than other water-resistant ones.

  • +3

How does this compare to the La Roche Posay offerings? I know la roche cost more but i use it for my face because the other face sunscreens I've used irritate my eyes even when i don't apply it anywhere close to my eyes.

I've used LRP as well, but actually prefer the Hamilton which seems to dry down more matte on me.

Edit: Eye sting is a personal thing - hard to say which one will be better for that

      • I mean is it 'eye sting' or getting the stuff in your eyes because you haven't washed it off yours hands which I get? I also wipe over eyelids with a damp cloth to get any of the stuff off. And pay down with a paper towel/toilet paper slightly to lower any 'shine'.

    • I was wondering the same thing! Might be worth trying as I was going to buy a new LRP soon

  • +1

The Hamilton does not sting your eyes! Ombra does, I have found.

If anyone is after a good tinted one, I tried LRP Uvidea tinted bb cream and now I get the price, it's phenomenal. The cancer council CC cream in light tint is also nice but nowhere near as the LRP, the Uvidea provides really nice tinted coverage and absorbs so well.

The Hamilton does not sting your eyes! Ombra does

If you're referring to the Ombra face sunscreen, you may have used the previous version of either. Both reformulated in 2023 and they are currently almost identical - refer to table in the deal description. So it's highly unlikely that you have eye sting in one and not the other now - either both will be fine or neither will be.

  • @moocher you seem to know a lot about this. Do you have a body sunscreen to recommend?

    • +1

I use Demaveen Sensitive SPF50+ for outdoors on both my face and body. I don't have a lot of experience with other body sunscreens.

      • this one I had never used , but it's pretty good.

also has almost no smell, can barely tell some time later that sunscreen had been applied.

FYI dosage makes the poison but octocrylene contains benzophenone, which is a suspected carcinogen.

    • +1

Guess we better stop having grapes, passionfruit, and black tea then as they all contain benzophenone too 🙄

Benzophenone is mostly found in sunscreens that are expired or have had prolonged exposure to extremely high temperatures. Just use your sunscreen before the expiry date, and don't leave it baking in a hot car for weeks and weeks.

The difference is, scientists aren't raising warnings about the consumption of produce and governments placing restrictions on them.

        • The restrictions introduced in the EU are reflective of their standard that cumulative exposure to cosmetic ingredients should in total be 100 times lower than the established no observable adverse effect level for chronic exposure.

This doesn't imply that there was harm occurring at the previous use levels.

Someone using the title of scientist doesn't imply any degree of relevant expertise in the subject matter at hand.

Neither of those links you provided indicate that any toxicity is occurring at current public exposure levels.

If you have any evidence that the currently established NOAELs for chronic exposure to these substances are inaccurate, you should submit these data to the teams of subject experts responsible for conducting the saftey assessments that guide regulations.

  • how do these compare with La Roche-Posay?

edit: nvm its been answered. might try moochers sunscreen rec for sports

  • None in stock anywhere near me!! Only the small bottles… Even Aldi is sold out

  • Just bought cancer council ultra moisturizing last week so will give this a miss. Did use these in the past but found they do give that tint you described too, not ideal but would definitely purchase still at half price because sun safety

    What's good for arms?

  • Love this product for its non stickiness. Thanks for the deal OP!

    Stocked up thanks

  • I think I'll stick to LRP which is on sale with Priceline 30% + 2x points.

    • +1

That price on priceline is basically the same price everywhere. The 30% off price is deceptive. At least buy it from Amazon who price matches the cheapest then undercuts them by 10%. Forget about points (400 points to get $5 is an insult), Amazon's price trumps that.

      Priceline: $26.56
      Amazon S&S: $23.90

      • The emphasis here is on the product the promo is secondary. doesn't matter to me where you get it from. I'm saying that LRP is better than the OPs product.

        • You made a point about LPR being on sale with extra points promo. I was trying to help you save money by showing you where you can get it cheaper almost a month ago, and for the benefit of everyone else reading this deal post.

  • I use their other face one which looks the same but in a tube and it has been $2 off at like $13 and the best face sunscreen I've tried so far. How does the one in this deal differ to the cheaper tube version?

    • Oh, silly me, same product, smaller package.

The holy grail of sunscreen for a lot people including me

  • +2

My favourite sunscreen. It applies nicely on face without the usual complaints that come with other sunscreens. I now use sunscreen more regularly because of this.

    • +2

I use this every day of the year :)

  • Is it good for sensitive skin?
