I’ve seen this advertised on the tennis coverage and have been looking for a new light sunscreen to try.

    • Yeah, because men with big balls don't care about greasy face or comedones, right?

      • -5

This man with big balls has never head about a comedrone, let alone worried about it. Neither has my wife.

  • +6

    Geez 50ml won't go far

  • I bought some last time and the colour and consistency of the cream was different than usual.

Hopefully the batch is better now

    • +3

I bought some and it had a yellow tinge and was very runny. I didn't like it. Only used it on my face but it clogs the pores. Overpriced and overrated. Such a tiny amount for so much $$..

      • +4

I purchased it from Amazon too and it was yellow (which it shouldn't be), couldn't find an expiry date on it (which the ones I've purchased from other stores including chemist warehouse and LRP direct did have). The ones I got from Amazon were either counterfeit or grey import and more than likely expired. It's great product, I just don't trust the Amazon stock.

        • +6

Last order were all fake. I always avoid and buy from Chemist Warehouse or Priceline now.

    • +1

La Roche Posay reformulates and worsens their sunscreens every time… Same with the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Sunscreen that they absolutely butchered. The US version of the Neutrogena is superior now.

  • subscribe and save will bring it down to $20.49 if you have prime

I am looking for a nano light sunscreen lotion. Fingers crossed that soon enough a half price deal for 25ml tube currently at $99.99 pops up. Hopefully a brand that sounds Italian and has at least 5 names in it for that extra quality.

  • +1

Any chance of this being fake? Surely not being sold/shipped directly by Amazon right?

    • I’m not super familiar with how Amazon works, but it has the Amazon’s Choice label and seems to be sold by an actual La Roche-Posay shopfront. Offering next day delivery as well.

    • No idea with this product, but every item that I have ordered lately that has required a tax invoice, has been some dodgy as hell invoice from some made up company in china (sometimes hilariously so). I will be VERY careful buying anything from Amazon in the future, as it feels like most of the things they sell are no better than buying off Temu or Aliexpress. LOTS of fakes these days, and they just rely on people not reporting it.

    • +1

Amazon commingles inventory now so it doesn't matter if its sold by Amazon.

  • +1

A lot of money for a day's worth of sunscreen.

  • There is also a tinted version, and some other place of people rated a cancer council one for the face to be as good as this one but way cheaper

Spray for just a couple bucks more and 200ml too, does anyone know the difference?

    • The difference is that you have to apply the entire can/bottle of spray to be protected. The fluid form is much more durable.

    • +1

Cream is more or less always superior to spray. Spray is good when you've layered more products than you dare to disturb with sunscreen.

  • +6

$445 per litre. Coles SPF50+ sunscreen is as cheap as $12 per litre. Both products lab certified to protect skin to same level.

I'm sure this stuff goes on a little better and feels a little nicer, but no card-carrying OzBargainer can justify this product.

    • +1

      Wait, there are cards??

    • +8

One makes your face greasy, one does not.

The Coles stuff goes on the rest of your body. This goes (in very small quantities) on your face only.

      • Still quite expensive. You are clearly paying for the brand. I personally use and highly recommend Goat SPF50 Broad Spectrum Dry Touch Sunscreen. It is currently 5.99 for 200ml at Chemist Warehouse. Quite light, non greasy and have a pleasant light smell. https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/91593/goat-sunscreen…

        • Thanks for the info there are plenty of decent options that are more reasonably priced and I will try the one you suggest. That said, the La Roche-Posay stuff is very expensive but very good. For 50+ its pretty very weight and gives very good all day protection. I also find that if you sweat a lot it does not run into your eyes or loose its sun protection, its good stuff, just not cheap.

  • +1

Does this sting the eye? I like the consistency of Neutrogena ones but gosh that one sting real bad!

    • +4

Dunno. But it will sting the wallet.

    • this one below might be safer .. else look to the safer mineral sunscreens .. ethical zinc, bondi sands mineral zinc, little urchin natural clear zinc .. some are not too white and disappear after 10 mins and, I think, give zinc oxide gives the best protection against even the new generation chemical filters.

    • +1

Unfortunately, yes, that can sting the eyes if you sweat… It's not waterproof… I use this one for the face and Neutrogena Hydro Boost for other exposed areas. I have yet to find a sunscreen that doesn't sting when in contact with the eyes, and I've tried a lot of them.

      • Thanks! That's good to know.
At the moment, I am using Japanese sunscreens (which so far works like a real treat) but definitely need an Aussie alternative when I run out :(

  • Is this sticky after applying?

  • +3

This is my go to sunscreen. Applies evenly, smooth, super light that I don't notice it, and most importantly it leaves no shine on your face (very matte finish).

  • +4

If you wear white shirts this will stain the collars

    Make everyday a sunscreen day

  • +4

    For those playing at home

Never and I mean NEVER buy fragrances, sunscreens, lotions etc from Amazon.

The chance of getting a counterfeit product is far too high.

Just get it from chemist warehouse instead.

    • it is sold by Amazon AU

      • +4

Doesn’t matter, stock gets commingled in the warehouse and treated as homogenous. Not worth the risk. I have personally had several experiences of receiving counterfeit goods sold by Amazon AU. Yes I can then get a refund but I’ve still put some questionable product on my skin.

    • I've bought this particular sunscreen from Amazon a few times (when cheaper than CWH), and actually have a subscription. No issues, no unexpected sunburns or changes in cosmetics. Daily use for a few years now, from Amazon and CWH. Same experience.

    • +1

Exactly right. Purchased before and were counterfeit and received a refund.

Consistency wasn't the same as Pharmacy purchased and the box stated fluid invisible and was not.

  • The Japanese ones are much better, but not sure what the brand is called.

    • +1

      Anessa ?

      • +1

biore and skin aqua (rohto) are also good

  • Get this instead from Goat. Half price at Chemist Warehouse. I have been using this one for years and it’s been great. $5.99 for 200ml.

    https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/91593/goat-sunscreen…

    • +2

Has 4-Methylbenzylidene Camphor, which is banned in some regions for being an endocrine disruptor. Not recommended for regular use.

  • +3

I swapped to Hamilton when was on sale. The consistency is similar and I get heaps more use out of it $ per ml.

I don't have to worry about using too much because the bottle is tiny. Using sunscreen shouldn't make you worry about applying too but by being careful how much you dispense. It's a good product don't get me wrong, but ridiculously expensive on sale or not.

  • Some findings about Anthelios range, from Germany:

    Translated via Google Translate:

    Beware of plastic compounds

Ökotest finds La Roche-Posay "good": no questionable ingredients, perfume or essential oils. However, Ökotest does not like the fact that Anthelios Hydrating Lotion contains plastic compounds.
In an earlier sun cream test, Ökotest criticized plastic particles in sun creams because the particles are considered difficult to break down and environmentally harmful and end up in the environment when bathing.

    Source, in German: https://www.deutsche-apotheker-zeitung.de/news/artikel/2023/…

    UV filter contains plasticisers

Traces of the plasticiser DnHexP were found in six sun creams, with Kaufland's "Bevola Kids Sun Cream 50+" even containing larger quantities. All of these creams received the test grade "Poor":

"Lacura Sun Kids Sun Spray SPF50+" from Aldi Süd
"Today sun Kids sun cream sensitive 50+" from Rewe
"Dado Sens Sun Kids sun cream 50"
"La Roche Posay Anthelios Dermo-Pediatrics hydrating lotion 50+"
