Lol. We had a quick chat about it back in 2015 when the deal was posted:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/180445
Yeah, i upgraded my microSD card since then and my PSP ISO collection has grown too. Though i somehow gravitate towards playing the CPS2 version of Alien vs Predator every time i fire the PSP up.
haha that's funny.
I only use it for PSP games now.
Even the cheapest modern handheld will play SNES/GBA/PSX games better than the PSP.
@PainToad: My biggest gripe for emulation on the PSP is the small screen. Every time I look at a new handheld device with a bigger screen, I then wonder if I should just run an emulator on one of my phones and use my 8bitdo bluetooth controller with a mobile phone cradle instead… and then I procrastinate and stick with the PSP because I'm too lazy to set up a new device - lol
One of these days I'll get my act together.
Actually, what I would really like is a large screen portable hand held that can run AvP in multiplay… either with a separate controller that connect to the handheld or be able to bluetooth with another hand held for multiplay. Something for me to look into I guess.
@Mugsy: Get something you can connect to TV, Bluetooth controller & even retroarch is cheap
paid with paypal linked to amex = aud 27.58
Got one in the last deal and thought that was cheap. This is ridiculous! If you're not after "heavier" systems to emulate such as the N64 or DC and onwards this thing is (probably) unbeatable at this price.
Sadly I see people selling them for $200 on FB marketplace and other stores slapping their stickers on and selling for even more than that.
Do these come with games? Or do they need to be set up?
Yes these have pirated roms installed.
All the malware you need
You may be pleasantly surprised, and won't need to do any setup just copy to new card. Get one and see, even for $40 they are a bargain.
If you have the time and inclination, it's fun to curate a nice tidy set of roms yourself.
about 30 bucks with shipping still worth it tho ty OP
how come we are all get free shipping
might be area based dunno but it was $4 so meh
Mine says $38.59. am I missing something or different prices for different people?
Did you make a new account?
Thanks - maybe I should just read the information a little better next time🙃
What games/consoles this emulates?
I think Playstation 1 and earlier, with the exception of Sega Saturn
Damn… Sega Saturn was exactly what I was after. I just watched The disappearance of Eleanor Rigby and it reminded me of Shinning Force 3. Now I wanna play it
Saturn is difficult to emulate. Dreamcast games perform better, in my experience.
@beltdrive: Quadrangles!
Just sharing this awesome spreadsheet if anyone wants to see how this compares to other handhelds.
It IS an awesome spreadsheet. Thanks @Munkeyalan
Decent
This is more than excellent thanks for sharing
Bought, should be a bit of fun
I am wanting to get something for my boys to play GBC pokemon. I am guessing I am not going to find much cheaper than this for it? Or is there a version without all the extra triggers?
@knobbs If you want a GB/GBA experience, the Anbernic RG35XX is similar but without the joysticks. I'm not sure how the quality compares, but Anbernic has a better reputation. It's all probably from the same Chinese factory.
Thanks for the tip, will check it out
For GBC you can get plenty cheaper. Without triggers, this is my vote, for just under $5 (+GST, new user only). Custom firmware makes it even better, but this guy plays GB/C flawless. SNES and GBA are a bit hit and miss (CFW is a LOT better), but everything else runs fine too, Mega Drive is great as always. For a fiver, can't go wrong. Also haven't needed to swap the memory card, I just left it as is, copied half a dozen games I wanted over that weren't on it and that was that.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006679618593.html?gps-id…
Thanks for that, can't believe you can get something like that for $5!
Only thing is the plastic looks to be the super cheap stuff, how does it feel?Definitely feels cheaper than the R36S, but only really in the buttons being a bit mushy. The unit itself feels fine enough, doesn't feel like you'll snap it if you grip to hard. Definitely better ones out there, but for five(ish) bucks it's awesome what you can get these days.
Screen is fine, nothing special. The R36S has a decent little panel on it comparatively, but again, 5 bucks is 5 bucks. For under 30 the R36S is my recommendation to everyone
But if you were buying for two or more kids and GBC specifically like you, the GB300 is pretty awesome. Could get both the kiddos their own one and come out ahead of sharing an R36S.
Again though, the R36S is awesome, it plays just so much stuff and if and when they want to play some more modern stuff, it does PSP, hundreds of great PC ports, DS, and more. The GB300 taps out at GBA.
Either way, if theyre just checking out older Pokemons, can't go wrong with either.
Can back this comment up completely. Had the GB300 for nearly a year. Mega Drive and GBC are great. SNES and GBA is practically useless though
Does this come with games installed?
6000 odd across all the consoles and arcados. You can always add your own too if there's anything you want not on there or wanna try out some homebrews and whatnot.
Pretty straightforward to put games on?
pretty
I've got an Anbernic rg35xxh but still bought this cause it's so cheap. Might gift it to a friend who's into gaming for long sessions while sitting on the loo.
Made a new account and got a Black 64gb for $25.52
Thanks OP!What's the best value one that will play PS2 games.
Off the topic a bit, I saw RG406 is out, 3DS and PS2 games are playable from the console. Cost $250 - 300 AUD.
Bit much, I got a Nintendo switch OLED for $270.
These R26S are appealing as they are <$40, cheap and fun for the classics.
That is exactly how I feel too. As the line-up changes quite significantly, the cheapest RG35XX costs about $60 in the Anbernic online store.
From my point of view, it is not a really attractive for gamer.
Would you say the RG35XX is worth buying over this?
What kind of games can you play on it?
Got one of these a while back, cloned 64gb card with Sony 64gb plus have a 128gb for all the roms. Can confirm all the way up to ps1 is good. N64 is no good but I'm always hitting the old school consoles, mega drive, Sega Ms and Nintendo/SNES.
What software tool do you use to clone the sdcard?
Does it run psp games or not really…
Looking for psp replacement
I believe just copy paste. Thry not like hdd with windows os
People have had issues with copy and paste. Display issues from memory.
If it's PSP titles you want to play the stick with the PSP.
I have:
R36s
Powkiddy
PSP
VitaI play the r36s more so due to the turn on and play factor but I'm always drawn to PSP Vita. I have them in my suitcase always.
For heavy set titles from PS1 or PSP Vita, I'd stick with the PSP or Vita handheld, as that have the grunt and in theory the PSP plays ps1 natively which makes it much better "emulation" with zero issues.PSP ROM I have tested were laggy or stuttering in a few spots here and there but playable….. Not for me though as I have a 256gb cd card in my Vita chockers full of PSP titles, and same with my Vita.
If I want to go any other console or mame I'd go with the r36s
EDIT:
I used win32diskimager to clone my sd cards.
vita better than psp but 2nd hand a bit more expensive
but i like the shape of pspThanks can you recommend memory card to buy for psp? Those memory cards are expensive as it is at 256gb.
Can you get an adapter just slot in regular sdcard? I had one ages ago but it does not support 16GB+
I got psp-2000
Also the other problem is I do not know where to get decent spare batteries. More places sell generic stuff which are very poor quality and no where near as good in capacity and usage. Do suggest any
Do advise
@neonlight: PSP street owner here… I just get get a microSD card and a memory stick adapter.
Don't get the adapters that take two microSD cards… they break easily. A single 256Gb microSD card holds so much already. More than I can play on the PSP for the rest of my life.
@Mugsy: Thing is where to get it from. Don't know where to buy the adapter for one that works. Also spare batteries. It's not uncommon for bad ones to just start bubbling up and enlarge
@neonlight: ebay. They're cheap but might take a month to come from China. Just get 2 or 3 different ones if you're concerned that one won't work and you don't want to wait another month for the next one to come. That's what I did.
I can't comment about spare batteries. I'm still on my original PSP street battery. Don't even know how to take it out - lol
@Mugsy: Yeah that's the thing ebay can be a hit and miss. What about Aliexpress on those psp batteries and adapters??
@neonlight: You will need to get a PSP memory card to sd card adapter. Which are fairly cheap and then purchase any cheapish sd card of your choice. 128gb is recommend because your PSP takes a whiles loading the game files on the menu each time you turn on your PSP OR you exit a game.
256gb is a bit slower.Once you have all this you will need to softmod your device. I'll provide a link although I'm on holidays and don't have my lappy with me.
@Kiro: Hey mate thanks whenever you are free. I recall I did some custom firmware ages ago but I have two psps one is 1000 another 2000 pm me when you are back thanks mate
Also any advise on battery replacement and adapters would be much appreciated
@neonlight: I hacked my PSP around a year ago and the sites I got the software from are dead.
Quick Google search throws up some guides etc.
Replaced my battery from one on AliExpress, searched for the one that sold the most and positive feedback and also an extended battery pack that clips onto the back over the umd door.
I wanted to make an extended battery case with replaceable rechargeable batteries but that's something I'll have to do in the future.
Also maybe look at something for the Vita.@Kiro: Ah right yeah no worries I will check Aliexpress for memory card adapter and battery then. It's hard to know which one is good. Recently I returned twice from Aliexpress. A dead on arrival WD SN740 SSD 2230 + a faulty ugreen ROG ally Docking Station.
I'm losing confidence with these Aliexpress sellers.
They had good ratings also
FYI my psps also hacked with custom firmware but very outdated not sure if that's some new stuff. We talking 2015 I last touched it
@neonlight: Tried linking the items I purchased off Ali but all blocked.
@neonlight: I got this battery for a psp 1002, working well.
OSTENT 2200mAh 3.6V Rechargeable… https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B00FBM4C2O?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_s…
Definitely don't replace a PSP with this, but it does play a great many PSP games well, I've clocked dozens on the thing.
And then there's relatively lightweight games like Harry Potter 4 that just straight won't boot.
Right thanks I will keep the psp
How does this compares to miyoo mini+?
How do you change battery on this thing? Any parts you can buy? It's battery is probably pretty poor quality
You can open the compartment on the back and swap it out
Sure, thanks but what batteries does it take and where to source them
Check youtube review.
@CyberMurning: Cheers any specific ones you would recommend too many on YouTube
usb C
I got one of these. Reviews are accurate, nice screen, the SD card they ship with is garbage. I couldn't even clone it before it died.
If I had my time again I'd skip this one and get one with wifi built in for moonlight, and I'd probably go for a horizontal form factor. There's a few under $100 AUD. But the price on this is just so damn low it's hard to regret buying. If this is your first retro handheld, just pull the trigger.
If I had my time again I'd skip this one and get one with wifi
Wi-Fi is also useful for:
- Syncthing (sync you save files across multiple devices)
- Retroachievements
- Box Art Scraping
- Multiplayer
- OTA Update (if supported)
I received mine and Theresa void warranty sticker on the main sdcard slot lol
Anyway I was able to successfully clone the main sdcard using win32imager software
Got one but used a parcel locker address for the new aliexpress account.
Ah it works with parcel locker?
dont know but I am testing it out. worth a try
please update us when you get the package
Noob on this, are the games preloaded?
Check page 1
Yes, thousands.
Buuuut a lot of people will tell you to make a new SD bc the ones they ship with are utter garbage. Really up to you if you bother, but a LOT of people have had the included SD cards die in this console.
I hear some people cannot even get the games copied out of the sdcard before it died
Putting some random SD card into your computer is absolutely insane. You have no idea what malware has been included.
Throw the included sd card in the bin and set up a new SD card yourself.
@PainToad: Lol paranoid.
Your PC should pick it up.
The disparity of stories on the incuded SD is insane. My included one was fine and I used it for a good while until for whatever reason, no matter what I did, GTA3 and VC would both crash upon actually starting a game, they'd make it to the menu, but when you start a game it would crash, without fail, every time.
Made a new SD for the console with one I had laying around from nearly 10 years ago, games worked fine.
I had no other issues with the included card, but it was weird. Friend of mine has one of these too, he stuffed up setting up a new card and hasn't got around to fixing it yet, so he's stuck with the original card, been going fine for about a month now for him.
It's very hit and miss, but when it's miss, it's very miss.
Thanks mate, hopefully sd isnt doa, will bin it and load a new one if it is, happy with the price for kids to destroy
If you end up getting a new SD, google "Tiny best set: GO" for a good curated ROMs selection.
Just got one for $32.37 delivered from the link, Just signed my wife up in an incognito window and used a different credit card!
I don't have that luxury all my purchases are hidden from wife. Else I would get in trouble. I use a separate account and credit card which she has no visibility or access to. And I can't change or make a new account just for this deal
You are one lucky man
Use Paypal connected to your credit card. This should will like a different payment details to Aliexpress. That's what I did anyway :-D
Lol I'm already using PayPal for my credit card as a layer of security
I'm not comfortable giving credit card details
A good deal for this price
oh i missed that how come
and people on gumtree selling psp second hand beaten condition for $100
