Looks like yes: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1gWxtr-GmwWop-_qG…
Something like this good, i paid under 20$ on recent deal, currently 35$
SAMSUNG EVO Plus 256GB w/SD Adaptor Micro SDXC, Up-to 130MB/s, Expanded Storage for Gaming Devices, Android Tablets and Smart Phones, Memory Card https://amzn.asia/d/6zs4oZf
why not this for $13? https://amzn.asia/d/1POYayj
Just get whatever but I stick to Samsung and SanDisk.
$27 now how price fluctuate
@neonlight: Says 36$ before adding tax etc.
Even for 40$ they are great.
How much space do ROM's and save files take up? Is 256gb way too much?
Too much unless you want the whole library of many systems
@CyberMurning: Easily fill up if your collection is huge psp takes lots of space
@neonlight: But this doesnt do psp well, right
@CyberMurning: True but it's good on the RG35XX
@neonlight: But i read r36s has more powerful chip. Maybe due to better o/s on rg?
Most games prior to PS1 only takes up a couple of MB.
So 256GB is overkill, unless you want every game (which you won't play).
probably too much, but, anything smaller won't be enough :-P…..Roms can be a few kilobytes up to multiple gigabytes for later games!…..considering this doesn't really do most playstation games, (which is where the BIG roms really start, and even then they're only 650megabytes for an ISO) , i'd say really 256GB is an overkill.
But, really up to you!
@bleugh: 128 or 256G is fine, just depends how much you want to spend. $/MB 256 better (got a samsung evo plus for <$32).
Crash Bandicoot plays just fine, although doesn't seem to have the same buttons (no slide, or high-jump.. both buttons do spin).
Just use it for retro classics - works great.
@G-rig: you can map the keys per emulator, per game!
@bleugh: I concur with this comment.
My PSP street takes ages to read all the content on a 256Gb card… best to avoid a similar situation with the R36S if possible. I put up with it on the PSP since most the games are large and it's the price of having a larger library with me, but with the R36S, I'd be inclined to keep it to 8 and 16bit titles mostly, some N64, and just a few PS1/PSP/etc.
You linked a full sized SD Card. The R36S (and more retro console) uses a MicroSD Card.
Any microsd cards deal though.
Possible for multiple players if you get a pair?
Can I ask how you transfer games from the included sd card to the newly purchased one?
I used win32diskimager to clone my sd cards. Someone said that
If you don't want to bother creating a new account you can get $2 USD off using this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/869146 and get it for ~$26USD
Yes that's not including tax though.
Using coins with coupon I was able to get it $28.90 USD shipped
still not sent yet usually one day and they are out from warehouse/store
Same with me, mine hasn't been sent out either. I am wondering if they were out of stock. Has anyone else faced the same issue?
from 1st Oct its national holiday in China. Usually no one is in office to do work from 1st Oct to 4th Oct. Some office even start working after 7th Oct.
FYI, if anyone breaks their screen, there are some issues with putting in your replacement and turning them on and finding a blank screen. Do a Google on this as there is a reddit account with all the firmware required.
Also don't bother firmware updating, this might have issues with screen from memory.
huh? updating firmware causing screen to break?
Yes, the newer versions or the ones with screen replacement will have the issue… It's not a killer for me, it's just that the different type of screen firmware but it's an easy fix. Just need to drop a file in a folder and presto but yeah, things to consider.
I can't even find the update option in the R26S menus. Was stuffing around with all that, connecting phones, downloading arkOS installs. Nothing worked. The thing had a black screen after boot up.
All pointless anyway as it comes pre-loaded, suggest just playing it (and imaging to a brand SD card first). Not worth stuffing around, although would have liked the quick start option to go back to same game.
Always worth shutting down using the menu options or these things drain the battery in standby.
I think it's a download, rather then an option to update. But it can break your handheld. I haven't bothered at all as there is no major leaps in quality of gaming. I fins it good as it is and plays the old consoles of the 80s and 90s I grew up with
Caved and got one for $33. I've been curious about these for a while and wanted to dabble with a low end one before committing to something expensive.
is it true we will kill it if we charge this with high wattage charger for mobile phone ? hmm afraid one day i will forget as i dont have slow charger lying around the house anymore (except the usb port on laptop)
I've heard that too, best to avoid and use a cable from PC or something. High powered chargers can ruin fitbits and bike lights don't charge any faster etc.
Ah fudge it!
I ended up getting one of these. Main reason is that N64 emulation is pretty crap on the PSP. The emulation on the R36S isn't brilliant from what people say but Mario Kart 64 is playable and that's what I want on the go. Will probably curate this device with just the games I know I will play.
Pity the controls are a little stiff compared to the more expensive alternatives but for the money, the screen, sound, ergonomics, and battery life is pretty decent. Wifi and bluetooth would have been great for multiplayer but I can worry about that when those options are cheap.
Are people mainly replacing the included microSD card for just the games, or the OS one too?
Just saw somebody selling these on FB marketplace for $150 each….bargain!
Cheap Samsung microSD
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/870138I see the R36S can play some DS games. Is there a similar console, for not too much more $$$, that can play 3DS games?
IMO best bet would be a used Android + controller of some sort
3ds games need 2 screens so need big screen if you want to play them in single screen i think?
and you cant get the 3d effects
best is get N3DS and mod it
Quite a big difference in price between new user ($25) and existing ($39). But even $39 is good.
$40 is a bargain.
Agree. I've ignored this device in the past as I didn't want to spend more than what I got my PSP street for just to be able to play N64 games a bit better. But at the current price, I can curate a set of games that I like to play so that I'm not spending time scrolling through lists of games as opposed to playing the games themselves.
You can star games and add to the favorites menu/rom selection menu, pretty handy.
@G-rig: Oooh! Good to know.
I might just use the included SD cards then if they have the games I play… flag them a my faves and be done. If the SD cards break, I'll worry about it then.
@Mugsy: Could do, most people reckon the supplied cards will fail, not if but when. I just copied to a Samsung 256gb and to made a disc image of stock one.
It's just an option to star games as favorites, they still play off the same card.
Amazing how the classics are still great for a quick fix, Tetris on GBC still fun.
@G-rig: No fears about malware or viruses on the included microSDs?
My original thoughts was to create fresh OS install and just use my own roms so I'm not putting the included microSDs into my computer.
And yeah, original tetris on gameboy still rocks. That thing is so addictive.
@Mugsy: What kind of virus would they put on there? I'm not too worried about it, windows defender might pick it up if so.
If you go to spare SD card just play around with it, I physically couldn't put on another OS maybe the device is locked. Anyway it sounds like a lot of work for not much benefit but let me know how you go.
@G-rig: I see. Yeah, I'll give a fresh ArkOS install a go when I get a moment to do it. Been watching youtube vids on how to do it… the screen panel seems to be the most annoying part.
@Mugsy: Yeah test out the stock setup at least.
Damned if I could get a fresh ArkOS loaded up on a new sd despite fking with it for ages.
Looks like this is available again for AU$24.76
Just got my 128gb version. I've noticed lots of games are loaded, but these must be on the SD card that contains the rom (protected by the sticker). The TF Game SD card slot is empty.
Is this the case for others who ordered the 128g? Or do you have a 128gb SD card in the second TF card slot?
I want to make sure I haven't been sent the 64gb version.
huh received so quick!
Yeah!
I've been super impressed with Ali recently — much better than the 4 weeks I was used to a while back!
Thanks to temu to bring more competition
I'm impressed with their DOA and faulty goods return rather.
@neonlight: Yep. Dont forget make video when unpack, and keep the packagings just in case
For those wondering…yep, received the 128b card. Software and roms are on one card for my example.
Correct, one sd card partitionee, you'll see if connect to PC. Worth making a backup image and copying to new brand name SD.
I backed it up per some advice here. Copy speed was 84mb/s average — not sure if this speaks to the quality of the card, given others have had issues. I was surprised it copied so quickly.
Mine arrived today!
Super impressive device.
Already want to buy another to hack up and ‘do stuff’ to.I’m fascinated to figure out if I can upgrade the RAM for example…
Seems easy enough to replace the two 4 Mbit chips micron 96 ball chips with two 8Mbit dua die ones from the next range up!Wow soldering expert? Surely installing mod nintendo switch chip would be easy for you.
Cleaned customs. 🙏
Same same
Was playing around with this Garlic OS does not work on the RG35xxx plus version
I received it today. The Os is ArkOS and everything works perfectly, not the clones using emuelec.
Tracking shows mine cleared customs 2 days ago and has been "arrived at line-haul office" ever since. I guess it was the weekend, hopefully it'll arrive in the next couple of days. Ordered October 2, so it's certainly not in a hurry but there's not a huge amount of urgency for it on my side, either.
I got those "has now entered the country" emails. I'm guessing Ali sent one big shipment for all us Ozbargainers.
Perhaps. Mine hasn't changed since Oct 12. Still "arrived at line-haul office" and showing a delivery date of Oct 22 which is still another week away. I don't know if it's actually going to take that long or maybe it's on its way and I just don't get another tracking update after that or what. Amazon Prime this ain't :P
Just got email notification that it's arriving today, and tracking has updated to "Your package has been received by the local delivery company".
So I guess it was just sitting around for the past 4 days :P
….ahh guys, how do i exit a game? Im in my first game but cant get back to main menu.
Start and select, twice maybe.
I think that's it 😆Legend! Thx.
Use Win32imager for cloning the SDcard.
Damn, this thing might be my new favourite handheld device!
Why? Which games
It runs Mario Kart 64 and Soul Calibur on DC… at least at an acceptable framerate for me.
Two of my favourite games.
Also has a fair few old arcade games from my youth but there's a few roms that don't work that i will need to fix up.
But there's a lot of junk on it too. May need to do a fresh install on a better card and curate the thing
Just fyi i managed to get this up and running with latest community arkos, dual sd card setup. If anyone stuck and need help, pm me.
Can anyone confirm if this is a decent SD card option? Cheapest 128gb on Amazon.
