I'm actually questioning this "sale". I have been looking at buying a block of Wusthof knives for almost a year now and have been checking their website out on average 4 times a week only to find that the price is always just about the same except for a few things they have on "clearance" every now and then.
As a subscriber, i got this e-mail about Wusthof 20% sale and decided to buy as the price would be much better now, however I really believe that the prices are more or less exactly the same. Some difference but nowhere near 20% discount and according to them, the prices on the website include the 20% discount.

As it is now, I think this "sale" is just bollocks and for people who don't know any better, they will buy a set believing they got a great deal when in fact they can buy it at the current advertised price at any point in time.

    • Same, I bought some Wushhof knives from them a few weeks ago and just checked and it is exactly the same price now!

To get it cheaper, register for their newsletter and in 48 hours they email you a 15% discount code.
Oh and I still have the $25 giftcard if someone wants it, they can have it for $12.50.

      • Are you referring to the e-mail newsletter? I've been getting e-mails from them for well over a year now, so i'm guessing I'm registered, but i don't recall seeing a 15% discount code? Got a link to that page?

        • They do not make it public knowledge on their site.
I found out about it here from greatwhitehunter
          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/83751

It is emailed to you after 48 hours when you first register an account and its only valid for 1 day. So when you are ready to buy, subscribe a new email address to their newsletter.
The subject of the email is "Extra 15% Off Ends Tonight"

        • Cheers, thanks for that. The way i understood that post is that the 15% off is valid for the "clearance" items only though.

        • Actually it is - I should have made it more clear.
But if you go through the clearance section, it contains a huge range of Wusthof knife sets. So if the one you want is there, then you can get extra 15% off.

        • Unfortunately, that is highly unlikely to happy. The Ikon Blackwood sets are never in the clearance section, at least not in the 12 months since I've been checking out their website. :)

  • allyemil, let me know when you find some decent priced wusthof's, i've been looking (off and on) for about the same period of time … i'm seriously considering just biting the bullet and getting one of the other decent brands (shun / mundial / global / furi)

    • Well, the thing is, I've been looking for so long that I'm just about to bite the bullet and get the one I'm interested in getting. Its expensive and more than what i wanted to spend, but having just renovated my kitchen and flooring, i think the Wusthof Ikon Blackwood is the one I'm most likely going to get:

      http://www.cutleryandmore.com/wusthof-ikon-blackwood/premier…

Top of the range Wusthof knives and with the wood handle, it should also fit right in with the new timber floor. Looking at getting it in the walnut block.

The way I'm looking at it is that a set of these knives should look great in a kitchen and on top of that, should last for as long as me, if not longer, so effectively it is a once in a lifetime purchase. Hell even if they last 10 years, it works out to be only $130 a year, but they should most definitely last 20+ years easy.

      • I've been looking at these sets for a fair few months now and have since bought an 8' Chefs Knife ikon in black and its great.
Although I wouldn't personally go with the wood but thats just me, I'd much prefer the black or the creme. Was thinking along the lines of a black ikon block set without steak knifes (7,8 or 10pc) then getting the creme 4pc steak knifw set or something like that.
Regardless, its a long term investment whether you work in a kitchen (home/work) or not.
As long as you get them sharpened/straightened they will last a lifetime.

  • The Classic 9 piece at $319 is good value. An extra Santoku knife to the 8 piece that King of Knives was selling for $300.

    http://www.cutleryandmore.com/wusthof-classic/elite-knife-bl…

    • Agreed, if i decide not to spend on the Ikon's, then this is most likely the model I'm looking at, just the 16-piece set.

  • Very good value if you are looking for knives and when I recently went to a knife store the attendant mentioned this is in the same level as Shun and above Global.

FYI for comparison to recent COTD sales (without looking at other websites),
    - Classic Ikon Wüsthof 7-Pc Knife Block Set: $599
    - 8-Piece Grand Prix II Wüsthof Knife Set: $349

On the current deal: $480-495 and $208 depending on colour. So yes, good deal!

    • Why are you comparing it to other websites?
The 20% off sale is meant to be 20% off THEIR own prices, not compared to the prices from elsewhere, most certainly not compared to the price here in Australia where just about everything, including Wusthof knives, are more expensive anyway.

      • What's so wrong in comparing their prices to recent supposed sales? So we are not allowed to compare with other sites??? I could do a comparison with other stores but recalled the recent COTD sale. I compare it to other sites to determine if the 20% is off inflated prices and determine for an Australian deal that it is worthwhile. I don't know what your point is exactly compared to Amazon in the US the current price for the Ikon is US$400 and Grand Prix price is US$260 (ex shipping) so it is a mixed bag depending on what you look at but for Australia it is good.

        • Well you can compare it to Australian websites/sales if you want to, but the point is that the prices in US are just about always lower than the prices here in Australia, even during the sales. Therefore if you want to compare it to the prices here, then the prices in US will always be a good deal since they are always cheaper, on sale or not.
That's besides the point though. The point i was making earlier is that their "20% off" prices on this particular website are same or very similar to their normal prices. I wasn't comparing it to other websites.
Come back again in 2 months time and you will find that the prices then will still be just about the same as they are now with supposed 20% off sale.

        • FYI also comparable to the recent expired King of Knives 1 Day Sale - Wusthof Classic 8 Piece Block Set Only $299 and Other Amazing Deals (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/85612)
which is $280-295 on the above site.
Am I now also going to be questioned for comparing it to a previous deal as well?

        • -1

As per my last post, i think you are missing the point.

        • Can agree to disagree but I don't think my post was outside of any rules or guidelines and I am just trying to give others info to allow them to make a more informed decision. BTW it was not me who negged your post.

        • Never said you were and nothing wrong with your post. I was simply explaining what my point was and that we were effectively talking about 2 different things. I was comparing the price on the same website, while you were comparing price on one website to the prices on another.

  • For anyone interested, here is a good review and ratings on just about all Wusthof models. Hope it helps.
