    " the best German knifes"
They better be at that price.

    • These are cheap as chips for Wusthofs (Though they are kind of the cheapo ones and meh). You would usually be looking at $200-$300 per knife depending on the type.

Good knives will easily last a life time. You do really get what you pay for :)

      • kind of the cheapo ones

huh? culinar are more expensive but gp would be just as good if not better for some due to the handle

  • $350.49 USD including delivery to WA from cutleryandmore.com with your choice of colour and with an arrival date of 13/11… probably long before the COTD package arrives.

    Meh.

    • More like $230 from Amazon DE (They won't ship, just a reference)

  • pls riddle me why anyone would want 5 sets of these

The previous bargain you listed a link for still has Amazon selling the exact same set (though amazon calls it a 7 piece, and COTD counts the knife block as the 8th piece) for $199 but it doesn't ship to Australia…wonder if you could get one of the US address shipping sites to send it to you.
    http://www.amazon.com/Wusthof-8845-Grand-Prix-Block/dp/B0040…

For example, sign up with ship2me.com with their free account:
    http://www.ship2me.com/pricing.html
which would deliver a 4pound package to Aus for $67.67:
    http://www.ship2me.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=art…

    So it would cost $199 + $68 ~ $270? (not allowing for $US/AUS conversion)

    They do ship internationally.
This set has 1 pairing knife instead of 2.

    • They do indeed ship internationally, $81 shipping to Australia

    • A friend and I both bought the Cutlery and More set about 6 months ago. Bear in mind Cutlery and More also throw in freebies like a cutting board (tiny one) and sharpener and other stuff.

Arrived one week after I paid for it. Landed cost at that time was about $250 AUD.

These knives are good, very sharp - but I would in hindsight prefer a heavier knife as these are quite light.

Cutlery and more have increased their AU shipping costs a fair bit - but we found after the initial big price, if you added more knives additional shipping was not at all excessive. We ended up placing an order for just under $1000 delivered to avoid GST…

Also if you join the Cutlery and More mailing list you often get an email for a further 15% off clearance items about 48 hours after you join…

  • Does anyone know how to sharpen knives? I bought one of those "knife sharpeners" from woolies but they ruin the blade…any more reliable or more efficient products? methods?

    • The honing steel is what you use for regular care and maintainance. But for sharpening, you use a sharpening stone (whetstone).
NEVER use a pull through sharpener (it ruins your expensive blade)

The 3rd method, is to have someone trained to do it for you.

Here is a sharpening website developed over ten years with over 80 web pages of info and DIY rigs: http://www3.telus.net/BrentBeach/Sharpen/index.html

And here is another good faq: http://forums.egullet.org/topic/26036-knife-maintenance-and-…

Personally I use a Spyderco Triangle Sharpmaker bought from eBay.

      • I sharpened it myself…its not hard! Takes about 20-30mins per knife though and the whetstone will probably set you back about 50bucks for a decent japanese one? If you're interested, I can post you the link for the one i bought. If you're strapped for time…just get someone to do it for u haha! But its not as rewarding :)

      • The eGullet faq looks great.

        • Yes it is a good introduction to the art and science of sharpening but it has not been updated since 2003. That's the reason it is my second recommendation.

  • Next time I head to Japan I will buy myself a proper santoku knife,

  • This knife set is also available at CostCo Auburn (well was a month ago) - from memory its about $300 so I don't see this as a great deal given both Costco and Cutlery & More alternatives.

  • Bought this set from the previous deal, love them to bits! Was a bit torn between getting the Wusthofs or Globals, but after using my set for a while, and then trying out my friend's Globals, I'm glad I went with Wusthof. Nothing against the Globals, but I personally like the heft and more traditional grip of the Wusthofs over the lighter Globals.
