Hopefully they price match or somebody does a price match that forces JB HI-FI or TGG to match.

Yeah I’m not a Samsung fan either

To be clear, I'm laughing at this deal.

    Good to know that:

Despite being advertised as having quantum dots — nanocrystals that produce brighter, richer colors on your display — some TCL QLED TVs might not even have them, according to a new study out of Korea.

Which TCL QLEDs might not have quantum dots?

The QLED TVs in question are the TCL C755, C655, and C655 Pro. According to both SGS and Intertek, these models don’t contain any signs of indium and cadmium. These are elements used in the creation of quantum dots.

The questions first arose when Korean quantum dot producer Hansol Chemical commissioned SGS and Intertek to conduct a study on TCL QLED TVs. Their findings concluded that the aforementioned TVs, the C755, C655, and C655 Pro, lack the chemical trace of cadmium or indium, two elements used in quantum dot display manufacturing

Update 9/13/2024: TCL explained to Tom's Guide that the TVs associated in these reports are not US-based models.

    Source: https://www.tomsguide.com/tvs/tcl-under-fire-report-suggests…

    • -1

you can easily tell if it has quantum dots by comparing an oled/amoled phone colours to the TV.

  • Is this any good for console gaming?

    • -4

      Low refresh rate

      • It’s 120hz..

        • 120hz is excellent in 2024

        • It's not 120hz @ 4K

The C655 is only a 60hz native panel

          • @Megahowler: True but I don’t think ps5 does 120 @ 4K either does it?

    • +6

Yes. 120hz @ 1440p. For the price, it's a brilliant TV and is one of the most affordable gaming TVs out.

I purchased the 65" of this TV for my folks, absolute garbage, drops wifi, netflix crashes, picture is trash. Im peeved i replaced their Hisense for this crap

      • +3

You must have bought a friday the 13th job… All the TCLs I've bought have worked well at very low prices, with the 3 year warranty not offered by major brands.

        • Must have, I guess you can get lemons on any product you buy these days.

  • -1

I went to harvey norman last weekend to look at the 75" samsung led tv. The picture wasnt bright and viewing on an angle wasnt good.. but then i compared it to other qleds and some qleds werent much better. The ones that seemed to have the brighter more lively picture were the mini leds and really expensive qleds

News just in, you get what you pay for, film at 11.

Tcl's newer c855 massively outpunches the competition, particularly if you pick it up around 1700

    • +1

TVs in store are in store demo mode. The quality in that mode wouldn't be any good as compared to a home theatre mode.

      • +2

Technically they are basically all VA panels and should all look 99% identical if setup the same.

Obviously different tech (ie OLED etc) will look different, but the rest is just smoke n mirrors.

Google calibrated settings for whatever you are looking at.

  • -2

You can get it with a soundbar for $884 from good guys

    • Link ?

      • +2

There is an additional 17% off when you add the $199 TCL soundbar. Shows up in cart, down to $884 with the soundbar included.

        • +1

does it work? it shows 884 when you add to the cart but when to try and check out the total becomes 1157.02

          • +1

@rpl: No, won't work. Pricebeat T&C says "Price Beat cannot be used with other discount codes." - so you either get the PriceBeat price -OR- the 17% discount when adding the soundbar.

        • Price Beat discount or promo code?
Your Price Beat discount cannot be used in conjunction with other promo codes. If you prefer to use your Price Beat discount please remove the promo code from the cart.

  • +4

The good guys have dropped it further to $922 when clicking the price beat option

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/tcl-75-inches-c655-qled-googl…?

    • +10

And $100 store cash. Also pay with 10% guft cards $922-$90-$100 = $732

      • +1

that's a better "prices are down down down" than the mantra owner!

      • I assume you can't use the $100 store credit at the same time of purchase? Also which gift cards work at good guys that are 10%atm? Could the "ultimate gift cards" from aldi deal be used online at good guys? Thanks

        • Was going to ask the same thing. I would assume you receive the $100 store credit after purchase of TV so price would still be $922 unless you've already got credit from a previous purchase.

      • Where do you get the 10% GC from?

        • +3

10% off Ultimate Him, Her, Kids, Teens, Birthday, Celebrate, Everyone & Home Gift Card (In-Store Only, Ex. Variable Load) @ ALDI

My parents bought a 4k TCL google tv and it was the laggiest modern tv I've ever used

    • +2

I swapped my parents to Firestick and now they watch all their FTA channels through it, much better quality too.

    • I have a TCL 75 C845, last year's flagship model, and it's very smooth.

    • +1

Pretty sure it depends a lot on the model, the C series are apparently much better quality than the P series. We bought a 65" P635 (I think) for $450 and yeah, after a few days on it starts to get laggy and continues to get worse until it literally needs to be fully restarted (powered off at the wall, usually after 2 weeks). Kind of expected for this price though.

  • This TV seems… rather good? HDMI 2.1 and VRR for console gaming, 75", eARC, 120Hz refresh rate? What's the downside if I'm going to be using it for streaming and for PS5 gaming? Doesn't really look like one?

    • +2

There is no 4K@120Hz for PS5 gaming.

      • +2

        PS5s don't run 4k@120fps

        • Yeah it does , there is around 7 games that can do 4k with 120fps on PS5.

      • Ah, well spotted! I had a look around and other places (I think The Good Guys) said it was 120Hz, but when I looked at the spec sheet directly from TCL it was 120Hz DLG, which looks to be some kind of faking system that makes it seem like 120 even though it's not. Good catch, I wouldn't have noticed that otherwise! I'll keep an eye out for another TV then

I bought this TV about 2 months ago (posted a deal at the time too).

    Overall great value for money.
Tv is pretty bright, does a great job in my living room that has a lot of natural light
Dolby Vision content is my preference where available.
HDR is hit and miss. I try to avoid HDR content because there is an odd color/tone shifting that makes it annoying. I'm guessing the AI is applying some processing.

I stopped using Google TV and use a Chromecast instead as the on board Google TV is a little laggy at times.
Switch and PS5 gaming is where this tv shines for me.

Overall a great package especially at this price.

    Any special on the 65?

    • I aslo wondering

  • +2

Bing Lee have the 65’ equivalent for $710 with free shipping

  • Got one from GG. Don't forget 4% cashback on Top cashback : )

    • how much you ended up paying?

    • How many GG the website allow to use

    • Very good price. Been watching this for a couple of dats and best deal was from 'Powerland' at 1665, even Costco was more with 1669. All others seem not to Budge from the 1800 to 1900.

  • JB will match on chat.

    They also offered this.

Happy to match this one today! Did you also want to take a look at any soundbars as well as the soundbar would be 17% off if you went with a TCL soundbar to match!

    • I did not have any luck with JB
"i can't match that bing lee deal unfortunately as it is on backorder. we do have a ripper deal however with the tv and a same brand soundbar, where you can get 15% off both items"

      • I managed to get a pricematch.

        I guess try another store?

        • +1

Never mind, I went with BL. Delivery to Brisbane on the 15/10.

  • -1

I’ve had nothing but trouble with multiple TCL’s. Never again.

  • Looking to upgrade the general TV from an old 42” LG plasma that just won’t die.

Expecting sound and UI to be rubbish, but what’s the viewing angle like on these? Seems Qled viewing angles aren’t great , but some are better than others.
Can anyone with this model comment?

    • +1

This is a VA panel (great contrast, but poor from wide angles). All manufacturers the same, as same tech.

If you need a wide viewing angle, then you need an IPS panel (with a contrast trade off) or an OLED.

    • Check out in store. Was looking at the 855 on Thursday. Viewing angles on VA with QD's are getting silly. And saw no obvious colour shifting with any model with the store display. Just a loss in brightness/contrast.

  • +2

Been resisting this deal multiple times for a second TV but finally pulled the trigger. Hope this works well.

Dont buy if it has no local dimming

  • Can anyone recommend a good solid wall mount for this tv? Many thanks!
