I bought Paul McCartney Band on the Run on cassette in an op shop 5 or so years ago for 50 cents, love the album.
50th anniversary edition is popping out in the next couple weeks. 85 bucks for a vinyl re-release that is only "based" off the original tapes anyway. Think I'd rather save the 84.50.
Cassettes never sounded as good as records- vinyl got it's scratches and pops with (mis)use but tapes always started off with hiss and other yuck and got progressively worse.
I used to buy the record and record it immediately to tape for regular listening, then only pull out the record to re-do the tape when it got crappy or when having a proper dedicated listening session. Going to CD changed all that, it was amazing.
And no op shops sell cassettes anymore…well its really rare if they do.
And everyone thinks a cassette is now $10 or more.
gotta sell something for the gen z kids to waste their money on
You're being downvoted but it's true.
'don't tell me how to spend my money, it's a hobby' says the 21 year old making $80k a year, who updates iPhone every 2 years, uber eats 2-3 times a week despite living at home, travels 2-3 times a year, buys $40 vinyls despite having Spotify. Same dude complains about not being able to save.
I just described my brother.
Not that you're generalising a whole generation based on your experience with one person though
Don’t forget blaming Boomers for everything.
Apparently Boomers should have blown their money rather than skimp and saving to buy their first home.
Streaming rip artists off so buying their merch/albums and going to concerts are how i support the artists i like.
@astrotrain: The dude has been dead for a while mate.
Also i’d rather save to buy a house than support someone who owns a couple of islands and a jet plane.
@Save 50 Cent: I'm not just talking about MJ i mean supporting your favourite artists in general. Besides not everyone is a billionaire earning Taylor Swift money.
OK Boomer. Never bought a record/cd in your life I take it?
Man boomers didn't really buy music anyway they just bought queen's greatest hits and listened to that forever
@Donmega123: Who wants to live forever.
@entropysbane: Statistically a few of them must have bought albums by The Cure so I suppose I should be grateful
@Donmega123: I have a few in vinyl, cassette and cd. Can’t be beaten for port and cheese nights.
Although that said, I am still scarred by the high frequency jukebox replays of “Love Cats” by the boat shoe wearing law students every lunchtime at the UQ student club.
@entropysbane: Haha yeah terrible song, the early stuff was more like really dark Kraftwerk. Thinking of faith, pornography and seventeen seconds especially.
@Donmega123: A measure of life
no doubt they turns buying an album then each of them recorded it on cassette, which were these little playing card box sized plastic cases with two wheels running magnetic tape between them you would insert into “cassette players”
Basically describes the lazy and corpulent behaviour of the music companies the past 20 years. They made stonkloads of money selling people the same music that they had already bought once when they upgraded from vinyl to CD. Was easier just to sit on their arse and make money off their back catalog than invest in new acts.
Taylor Swift is pretty formulaic but obviously the reaction confirms just how hungry people were for a new pop phenomenon. Other than her its basically only geriatrics that can fill stadiums.
Also that there is a market for multiple songs about bad choices in boyfriends
yeah I know what you mean I still kept my vinyls though lol I only actually got it on CD so I could put it in my cd stacker in the car back in the day.
Either buy the record or don't. Why so many insist on moaning about what others spend their money on is beyond me. No one cares.
It’s Human Nature to Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'. These guys can just Beat It as far as I’m concerned.
It's a Thriller to read the comments
mfw something costs more than it did 40 years ago 😠
when the artist dies it tends to go up in value :D
All records are stupid prices now.
Arguably one of the greatest runs in regards to track list back to back bangers
Quincy Jones
One does not simply listen to thriller and not do the thriller zombie dance
You can get this at any op shop for a few bucks
Any fans - would recommend this -

No you cant..
Well no where at any op shop on the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Tamworth, Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Noosa areas.
Its sold 10 million copies. I see it on the reg. It comes down to the taste of the area. I am sure in all those places you can find bulk country music.
Nope, it’s not a few dollars anywhere at any city.
@PVA: I got it for $2 2nd hand. You need to find shops that don't exploit these BS vinyl prices these days. Also got best of Harry Belafonte two weeks ago for $3. Most I've paid recently was $20 for an old fast forward vinyl.
It's called diggin for a reason - not ordering of Amazon as the only channel to obtain vinyl.
$32.50 per record here
@Pootie Tang: Nothing like that on the Gold Coast . No one sells records cheap here.
Went to one on the sunshine coast last week and they wanted $40 for cassettes. … bloody crooks.
@PVA: Yeah, the gold coast is not going to be the place to find cheap/good records. Go inland and never return. Hinterland shops? The quieter the town, the cheaper the vinyl.
where I'm from you're lucky to see anything other the Engelbert Humperdinck and Kamahl leftovers from Nan's estate
Show us where? I go to op shows all the time and they have endless copies of Kamahl, Marcia Hines and random classical music but I cant remember the last time i saw a Michael Jackson record. Even when i do see decent records they price them ridiculously - I saw Queen greatest hits and The Police albums and they were asking $30 for scratched up poorly cared for records.
Got this for $34.07 in July (amazon daily deal). Havent even played it yet.
Those were the days. Snap, crackle, hiss and pop. Plus the thrill of having to get up and turn over the album half way. Just makes no sense these days.
Another vinyl post and another person who doesn't know how to keep records or equipment clean.
As far as getting up halfway through to turn the record over, it makes perfect sense these days why everyone's fatter and lazier with their Spotify subscription👍🏻.
lol anyone else bought this on prime day and still haven't bought a player yet?
Showing $50.18 for me — expired?
Anyone else get their order cancelled due to availability?
Yeah had mine cancelled due to availability, but when you search it says the item is in stock. Worth having a chat with amazon support to see if you can order again and honor the price of $34.65 (seems to be $49.57 now).
I got the boiler plate answer of; its in stock now! order it again, pay more money, sucks it was out of stock and we had to cancel it, we'll honor it just this one time because we're so nice.
Awesome thanks mate great idea!
geeze im old. when everyone replaced their vinyls with CDs, I picked up these classics for 20c each.
thinking about it. replaced vinyls with CDs. cds with mp3s & iPods. now streaming. expensive.
