Great price. Bought these for around $495 I think, also from TGGC around a year ago. Can’t complain so far.

Nice upgrade from my old Obi RBK50 3 pack. I used to get under 300Mbps wifi strength (not internet speed) and I'm now at avg 600Mbps

    • Im still using Orbi RBK50 2 pack and its been rock solid since week 1. Stream all media including high bitrate 4K from NAS over 5Ghz WiFi, various IPTV etc perfectly. Do you have any other feedback since upgrading?

FWIW with Gigabit net i get up to 400-600Mbps if same room as the router/satellite as is which is why i still have not upgraded.

      • Same here. I keep looking at upgrading but the Orbi is solid. I’m mostly on Ethernet now including wired backhaul. But wifi performance is great on Gigabit NBN

      • Same here, RBK50 two pack. I just aren’t getting any bottlenecks in our very large house, but Tbf as part of the reno I had the NBN modem and the Orbi router repositioned in the middle of the house, and the satellite wired to my gamer PC at one end.

So, I can’t really justify an upgrade at least until wifi 7 prices become sensible.

But if the router or satellite were just so happen to fall and break, well, this is a great deal for my TGGC.

      • I’m the same with my RBK50 3-pack. Absolutely rock solid, get 500 Mbps on the other side of the house with gigabit internet. Such a good purchase for the price.

      • You guys are lucky, my Orbi RBK50 experience went downhill after first year and now the wifi drops out daily sometimes multiple times a day needing a router reboot to get it stable again. When they work connection and speed has always been excellent though.

        • I hear you. Every time i have looked to upgrade i find similiar stories (drop outs, instability) for basically every mesh system even this one when i googled it today. How much of it is localized factors like environment/interfearance, settings, firmware, or things just becoming defective. Seems like a lottery no matter what you pick.

      • +2

Yeah I feel by bottle neck for the Orbi is the max speed, even in the same room at the primary router which maxes out at 500Mbps ish.

I have moved to 1,000Mbps NBN connection and having a cap at 500Mbps (wifi speed) means I need something faster.

Now with the XE75, I'm getting a healthy 800-900Mbps speed feeding through the wifi on Speedtest. That's almost double the speed I'm getting on the RBK50.

        • Ah, yes, the RBK50 would not make the best use of an internet connection of that speed. In fact it would be wasting money on the connection. But it is fine with my 250Mbps connection. If I upped it to 1000 yes would have to replace the mesh router with at least something like this.

          • @entropysbane: This is my conundrum. Gigabit net with RBK50. But i only really use/need the max throughout on my PC, which is ethernet to the main router anyway. So whilst i want more than 500Mbps on WiFi realistically nothing would use it so the ozb in me just cant pull the trigger.

What's the difference between this and the pro model?

Seems as though the pro has 3 gigabit ports and this version seems to have 1× 2.5 Gbps Port + 2× Gigabit Ports. Is that really it?

    https://www.tp-link.com/us/compare/?typeId=5757&productIds=5…

    • +2

Yes, AFAIK the only difference is the one 2.5gbps lan port.

    • Basically the XE75 pro has a 2.5Gb Port while the non-pro has 1gb port. More futureproofing when NBN has 2Gb Speeds in around 2025, Sept lol or if you have a nas or media server

      • +3

I found there's another difference: The XE75 Pro features a more powerful quad-core processor and 512MB of RAM. Not sure if that means the non-pro has half of that on both specs.

    • The Pro has a 2.5 Gbps port added to, better cpu and more ram. However, in terms of firmware and software, the Pro has different features. I have 4 of the Pro models, and 2 of them were bought about 2 years ago. They are a different hardware version than the other 2 and also have different software features, even though they are all from the same Pro lineup.

If you just want a good wifi mesh system that you just do inital setup and forget about then get the non pro, if you want to have more control over devices and how the connect such as IoT devices that never move around, get the pro. Obviously the pro having 2.5Gbps allows you to expand as NBN gets better but by the time that happens more advanced devices will exist.

If you can get a good deal on the pro, i'd choose that. But this 3 pack of the non pro costs the same as a 2 pack of the pro's that I just bought so this is a good deal.

  • I swear ozbargain is listening to me, have jsut been on the hunt for these. Now all I need is a GGC account

  • +1

I'd buy this in a heart beat if i had a GGC account

    • Check if you can get access via your super fund. I just worked this out on the weekend and bang got what I was looking for a few days later!

      • What's the trick?

I signed up at https://www.australianretirementtrust.com.au/ on 12th July and so far nothing.

Update: I see that there's a separate form for registering with TGGC. Do not remember if I did that in the past or not. Submitted it now. Let's see..

    • You don’t need one.

For another product. I rang the price match number and they sent me a text with the commercial pricing on it. I just said I wanted to use my giftcards and they didn’t work on the ggc. They didn’t even question it.

  • Anyone able to explain to me what feature Netgear Orbi have to justify the high price when compare to something like this TP-Link?

    • If there was one you cared about, you'd know it. :) Even if wanting to avoid a chinese controlled product… netgear prices are just ridiculous these days. Im using one now, but highly unlikely i will moving forward for cost alone.

  • +3

For those without access, make an account at https://www.australianretirementtrust.com.au/rewards
I didn't add any funds and got an GGC account.
I actually bought these last week for the same price and received them yesterday.

    • This post deserves its own page!

    • What costs are involved in running a second super account like this? Or is this some no fees unicorn….?

      • I only provided my details and TFN. No costs so far and I don't plan on putting my super in there

  • Are there are any older well rated mesh setups? Would be good if can get a decent mesh trio for around say $200 or a duo for even cheaper even if it's not the latest. I'm sure old tech can easily handle 100Mbit.

TPlink Deco M series were highly popular and still round for sale i believe.

      TP-Link Deco X20 Wi-Fi 6 Mesh Router 3-Pack $229 Delivered @ Amazon AU.

Sell one Deco X20 for $80-$100 if you don't end up needing it ($139 new unopened). It can be used as a standalone Wi-Fi router or added to someone else's existing Deco setup.

  • I'm running the X68's at the moment, is it particularly even worth upgrading to these?

    • No.

      • you made me reconsider my plan to upgrade from x68 to xe75.

i am using x68, a lot of smart devices randomly disconnecting from my wifi network.

was thinking upgrade to xe75 see if it improves the connectivity.

        • Most smart devices use 2.4GHz so I doubt it will make a difference. Have you tried connecting your smart devices to the guest 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network?

          • @Twix: all my smart devices are on the IOT network only restricted to 2.4ghz.. but it keeps on disconnecting.

maybe i should consider jump to linksys :(

            • @trf: I would try Asus or Ubiquiti before Linksys. Sometimes it's cheaper just to replace the smart devices with newer models.

  • I checked TGG Commercial the other day but couldn't find the BE85 220000 which I'd love to get in a 2-pack, which they do sell in their regular retail.

Is there a way I should be contacting them to find out if there's special order pricing? I couldn't find a simple way to do so.

And/or if anyone has the pricing for that let me know ;)

    • Apparently you can email them for a quote.

    • @tommypickles in a similar boat, tried to call their new sales line but automated response said that line is closed.

Did you have any luck finding a commercial price for the be85's?

  • Got this in July still happy with it.

  • Can I ask if the ultimate everyone gift card can be used for TGG commercial purchases? Many thanks!

    • "The Good Guys Commercial web site does not accept payment by gift cards for goods."

  • I wish these mesh systems have vlan capability.

    • You can "sort" of do it with isolation but even then it's quite limited

  • +1

I am quite impressed with routers. I was going to purchase a 3-pack but ended up just getting a 2-pack and suprisingly it does well covering my entire house including the front and back yards with only a drop in speeds in small corner section of the front yard.

  • Highly recommend. I've kitted out many friends houses with these, no complaints.

  • Can highly recommend these. Been very happy. I’m on gigabit and get 900Mbps over wifi pretty much throughout my house.

  • -1

it looks like many people pay a lot for wifi router. I am still happy with wifi 5 and never upgrade it until the Gigabit nbn price reduce to about $70/month :))))

  • This or Google Nest WiFi Pro?

    • Yea. Can get the Nest Pro 3 pack for around $340 ($359 on Kogan, and use a 3~% off via Gift cards purchased as a BUPA member).

This is $100 more, and no idea if its better technically / reliability wise / overall, and if so - $100 betterer?

    • TP-Link Deco XE75

  • i ve been sussing out an upgrade from my m5 decos - i know i don't need it (nbn 250) but i've been fantasizing about a wifi 6e home network for sometime now…

if i were to force an upgrade, would this be it?

    $100 more for wifi 7?
    https://www.amazon.com.au/TP-Link-Deco-Multi-Gigabit-Dual-Ba…

    • WiFi 7 but see the max speeds are actually less.

  • These or x95?

  • +2

Had a pretty terrible experience with this set - constant disconnects and wifi drop outs. I was using wired backhaul and devices a few metres from the satellite devices would constantly drop connection.

After trying all suggested solutions I eventually gave up, sold the system and moved to Linksys - set of 3. Had no similar issues.

    • +1

I have similar experience with drop outs and started assigning devices to units to minimize device drop outs. But I still have the main router loose internet connect had to pull out the old Linksys Velop and used it as the main router which stabilized the network and I now run the XE75 in airport mode. The XE75 was suppose to replace the linksys. If this setup fails I was going to venture to Ubiquiti UniFi.

  • Showing $639 now. Bummer, would have jumped at $445

    • Aaaand back to $445. Not sure what's happening lol.

  • +1

I’m looking for the cheapest tri band mesh with a dedicated wireless backhaul band. Can someone please recommend….reading on the blogs here tell me the google mesh 6E pro does not have a dedicated band

  • "I currently have the Deco X50, but I'm not completely satisfied with the coverage. Do you think upgrading to the E75 would provide better performance?"

    • Not in my experience, see my earlier comment.

  • Anyone know if you can restrict devices to 5ghz or is the choice automated by the router?

    • My older Deco M5 allows me to choose a preferred GHz per device, or set to auto.

  • Hi guys i have an ggc account will the good guys instore price match instore if i went to buy instore also will other retailers like officeworks, harvey norman, jb price match with the ggc if i show them that i have ggc account and show them the prices or will they say this is not accessible to public so cannot price match.
