How to they justify 26k more for the RS model lol

    • +3

the same way Audi justifies it for their S and RS models

also 180kW and 370Nm over this one

probably the same motor with more boost

      • +6

Yeah but 180/370 for a big SUV is hardly performance. 6.6 seconds 0-100 is super mid range.

RS does however come fully loaded with all the add ons which you would need to spend ~8k on top of the 52k for this one so it’s more like 60 vs 76 like for like.

        • +4

I'm curious, what equiv SUV could do quicker than 6.6 in 0-100 for the same price?

        • +2

I own the vRS and it picks up quicker than a Porsche Macan (standard models) from stationary probably because much lighter than them. Probably there is nothing else in the price range that has a similar specs (and 7 seater) with a similar motor? Love mine, no regrets paying a premium over Sportsline.

      • Completely different engine.
180tsi actually has lower fuel consumption.

    • This the base sportsline price if you want it near the RS spec add the sunroof ,leather pack and signature pack at about $10,000 but still a$16,000 difference

    BYD Sealion tho

    • +4

      7 seater?

      • +2

Sealion 6 is probably just as big without the extra seats which are almost useless in the Kodiaq. The Skoda is hardly a large SUV. Mid sized at best. Would struggle to fit 3 child seats across.

        • +11

The Kodiaq has vastly more storage in the boot than a Sealion 6. Plus the Kodiaq comes with a spacesaver spare if that matters to you.

      • Skoda Kodiaq is a 7 seater the way a Porsche 911 is allegedly a 4 seater.

    • +1

I'm hoping the BYD Tang will hit shores some day.

      • It might. BYD is launching the Tang in Japan.

    • +1

Some big advantages to the Skoda over the BYD:

      • Skoda is made in Europe
      • Skoda also has longer warranty (7 years) vs 6 years on the BYD with some weird exclusions, where some parts of the car are only covered for 24 months or 3 years (read the T&C's)
      • Skoda has fixed price servicing packs. 5 years = $1,800.00, 7 years = $2200. BYD ends up costing slightly more over the 7 year period.
      • "Skoda is made in Europe". That's a disadvantage.

As a former skoda owner and a current bmw owner, I would prefer an Asian manufacturer over European if i could find a similar vehicle.

Still a deal, but all new model in 2025.

    • -1

If you pre-order one now, could you get the 2025 model?

      • Have to make sure it's MY25 model.

      • +1

Manufacturer's recommended driveaway price (MRDP) for new vehicles sold and delivered by 31/12/24

New model is due in February so it would appear not.

Pricing and exact specs for MY2025 haven't been released yet.

    VW's market share is tanking.
Going the same way as nokia.

    • +3

Expensive for what you get imo. And never see any old ones on the road makes me doubt reliability. Especially when ten years or so ago was vw golf everywhere. Don't see any now.

      • +3

You'll see plenty of the manual ones. The old DSG gearbox however 😶

        • +2

Transmission went on my octavia last year. Quoted 13k to fix when the car was worth 10k. (10 year old car)

And my other octavia i just paid 6k to fix as a sensor cracked and leaked coolant through the wiring harness and into the ECU, turno and everywhere. (8 years old)

Other than these both cars have ran amazingly the whole time with no issues… but being hit with both of these this year really hasnt be great.

Good cars but sell before 7 years.

          • @speedyjonzalas: Both 7 speed cars and engines weren't the 2.0 EA888 i assume from those issues?

The vRS are generally reliable but budget to do a water pump (although less catastrophic consequences than what you describe above)

            • @Matt P: No both 1.4 tsi.

Was very happpy with them, but im probabluly leaning towards toyota for future cars now.

        • I had a MK6 Golf 118TSi DSG… have never even considered a VW since. I couldn't even get VW to acknowledge the problems I had with it and I had to get rid of it. This was just before they had to do massive recalls and the woman died because her car decelerated out of nowhere (hers was a manual, but the deceleration was one of my issues).

          • @iMacca: I had the 118tsi golf. The twincharge engine is one of worst by VW. I have a arteon with almost 200k and nothing major has gone wrong yet. Everything is bloody expensive compared to my partners corolla though.

      • All the youth clapped them out. 280k km and they are worthless to anyone

      • got a 2012 tiguan manual, no issues personally though i;ve heard others complain. probably because theyd have purchased the auto.

        • +1

Yeah what the manual gains in reliability you lose in re-saleability.

          • @Drakesy: ive changed timing belt ($1000) and had clockspring ($700) give out. i will keep until it is a write off. bought a second car for family for 30k. my21 santa fe with 43k km on it. hopefully im set for 15 years

        • Same (1.4 TSI manual). 156K on the clock.
Had to have the timing chains swapped once (~3K), and a coolant issue (~1K).

So really if I was to get zero for it today, it'll have cost ~$2600 P/A (upfront and 'major' issue costs). Not too bad. In reality suspect it'd be worth 6K atm.

I think we got lucky with the 2012 as think the 2011 was known to have issues with the camshafts.

  • +7

Love my Kodiaq. The back row seats really are for kids or Adults if you’re going round the corner. I also think this model is on runout before the new models come to Australia later this year.

    • +4

Same, I got the vRS 2022 model and best car ever owned. I mean I haven't used cars over 100k but much better value imo. Really like so many handy features it has that you cannot find even in other luxury brands for the price.

    • +2

Our bear is almost 5 years now with no issues. I was on my way to VW dealer to replace our 9-year-old Tiguan with the 7-seat tig, but visited a Skoda dealer as it's on the way, I ended up getting a Kodiaq instead and no regrets.

    • Any feedback on the front cup holder sizes?
Or its just me finding it really small?

      • +1

yes, it's small, but we typically use the door storage for large bottles without any issues.
However, with the Sealion I checked yesterday, even the door storage can only fit a 600ml bottle of water. On the other hand, the 2024 Santa Fe offers plenty of water bottle space.

        • +1

That is the only annoying part for me with kodiaq, or else it's such a cleverly designed vehicle with lots of features(when you have both tech and comfort packs). It is really hard to look for other brands once you have used a Skoda.

  • +1

Sportline to an Aldi carpark maybe.

    Too exxy. Steep depreciation curve

  • +1

Heard good things about Skoda im on no position to drop 50k on anything but this is a good deal

  • +1

@thebeep I just visited your website (using desktop browser). User experience is pretty horrible when trying to compare multiple vehicles. Vehicle details not presented side by side but stacked bellow each other, making it very hard to compare apples to apples. Also comparison information very incomplete (e.g. good luck figuring out what is the difference between Sportline and RS apart from the engine). It looks like you had "some right ingredients but did not quite cook and plated the dish".

    • Thanks for the feedback! We are working on some big enhancements that will address a lot of what you've raised. Stay tuned!

  • +2

With all these deals on new cars, im hoping it flows through to 2nd hand market soon.

  • +3

Best value SUV in Australia for sure. This is an excellent deal.

  • +3

Transmission went on my octavia last year. Quoted 13k to fix when the car was worth 10k. (10 year old car)

And my other octavia i just paid 6k to fix as a sensor cracked and leaked coolant through the wiring harness and into the ECU, turno and everywhere. (8 years old, but this seems to be a very rare one off bad luck type event).

Other than these both cars have ran amazingly the whole time with no issues… but being hit with both of these this year really hasnt be great.

Good cars but sell them before 7 years as they are notorious for the DMG autos for failing and that part especially isnt cheap to fix.

    • +1

they are notorious for the DMG autos for failing

That would be the dry clutch 7 speed in the smaller engined (1.4 and smaller) models. It's a crapper.

The wet clutch 6 speed is very reliable if maintained properly.

Where are you paying those $$? Dealership or independent specialist?

      • Yeh this. The 6spd and 7spd wet are very reliable units and very smooth if driven correctly (from take off you have to imagine a manual clutch engaging).

Don't leave the service intervals for the 7spd for as long as they say.

  • +4

    A$45k next month?

  • +2

    I love Skoda/VW products
    But they just aren’t reliable.

    Anyways
    Is this deflation?

    • +3

Why do you love those when they are unreliable

      • +5

Is reliability the only thing that matters with a vehicle?

If yes then I heard McLarens and Ferraris are less reliable than Toyotas and I will assume that you will take Toyota 86 over Ferrari 458.

      • They are nice to drive.

I'm on my 3rd "modern era" VW. They are great to drive but not a long lasting vehicle and you have to choose the drivetrain very carefully and not postpone any service items.

  • -2

There are no dealers in WA offering this promo. Skoda customer service was unable to tell me which dealers on the east cost were offering this price after multiple emails. It is at their discretion. A lot are not discounting. Have found MY24 dealer demo’s around the $45k mark in Vic and Qld. So you can knock another $6k off if you are will to have a few 1000km on the dash.

    • Yes there is just pick up my 24 built kodiaq from WA dealer for this price originally purchased at the 1st runout price but as it wasn't delivered yet they had to give it to me at the new price as per the contract.
Got the sports line fully opted so only difference between the SL and rs is the engine tune and dab radio and some cosmetic items and a big price difference.
      But real nice car

      • Can you please tell me which dealer and salesperson if possible and a date? Both dealers dug heels in and told me they weren’t taking part in promo not 2 weeks ago now. Both were at $52ish+ on road costs (not driveway). They were both pushing service packs which to be fair were pretty good value for money.

        • IT was from the perth dealer just picked it up this week .
Nigel was the rep had no issues with him.
          Followed up all my inquiries.
          Very impressive vehicle.
It's not a promo it's a new mrrp.thats how I was able to get the new price even after signing a contract

        • If you do the build you own on the web site it will show you the price and any extras you add .I know there is not much stock left in the country but get them to see what is in the Sydney warehouse and configuration.
The stock available on there site is outdated and pricing incorrect

  • +2

There is also savings to be had on service packs if you prepurchase and if you purchase the Tec and luxury pack together called the signature pack you save .

  • +1

Have a 2019 Sportline for my wife and it's great. Heaps of room inside, great value for money and nice to drive.
Will be getting the 2025 model if there are no bad reports.

    • Always good to wait for MY25.5 models

nobody is talking about the fact that it has only 132 Kw? am i taking crazy pills?

the first gen toyota 86/subaru brz coupes have ~150 Kw at like 40% less weight, and people meme on them for being underpowered.

    • It's the torque. 86 torque 205 vs kodiaq 320. Turbo engines nowadays make torque much earlier than naturally aspirated engines as well.

      • 132kw in a car this size is extremely underpowered, even the torque is pretty sub par.

        • It's not a car, it's a family SUV.

Absolutely if you're looking at a sports car like a Subaru BRZ, then the performance is an important factor.

But a family bus ? Who cares. Complaining it's down on power is like complaining you can't fit a washing machine into the back of your BRZ. Nobody is buying this for the performance.

          • @Nom: My Chinese family 7 seater has the better part of 165kw and 350nm from a 2.0L engine, that's about par for a car this size.

  • +1

Nice to see prices coming back down to earth a bit.

Glad I got a Superb instead though ;)
