130

Makita Mower Mania information page.

Is a great mower set all around. Plenty of grunt for the suburban lawn. Mine came with a mulcher kit too. Only gripe I have about is the bar blade rather than swing-back blades.

Trade Tools only in QLD as far as I can see.

  • The review I watched the other day of 5 electric mowers had this one in the "wouldn't even give it away" category.
better to get the Greenworks https://www.greenworksaustralia.com/product/40v-brushless-la…

I've had mine for just shy of 3 years and hasn't skipped a beat from regular use. Front back and nature strip on an average sized block (plus quick edging with a 18Vx2 powerhead) can be done with just two batteries if the lawn hasn't grown out too crazy. Another 2 batteries for the blower but they chew through anyway.

I wouldn't get one if I had big land but then again they aren't the right tool for that job anyway. If you're already on the Makita LXT platform and in need of a mower it's a good get.

Got one in the latest Total Tools deal. Out of the box and did front and back trim on large block and still had 3 bars on both batteries. It powered through buffalo and couch easily. Very happy with the trim. At this price point would easily compare with any petrol mower I’ve had around $600 mark. No petrol. No need to clean filters. No servicing. Keep on top of you lawn height and it will be fine for most metro gardens.

        • Do you know if the USB port on the charger allows you to charge a device from the batteries or only from mains power?

@Elyxar: At work the guys use these chargers to charge their phones but all plugged into mains. I couldn’t imagine it would charge from batteries. The manual indicates the charger needs to be plugged into a power supply for the usb to work.

I've got that greenworks. warranty was good for 2x failing batteries (just sent me new ones). But it's a bit gutless & struggles on lawn 3"/7.5cm+

      I get about 30min out of a 4ah battery.
I ended up getting some generics off Amazon/MyDeal which work well.

honestly I'd be looking at the 80v version for a bit.of grunt.

      • Is this the 60v or 40v you have?

        • the 40v like in the link above

      • Were the batteries failing from normal use? My Makita batteries are still in good shape, they are all from 2016. Wonder if something about the Greenworks charge is not keeping the battery cells in good balance when charging.

    • The issue where the grass catcher does not fill up fully is real. I've been using mine since 2016 (brushed 380mm version) and it is always a challenge with avoiding the grass ejector port being clogged up and not filling the catcher. I'm tempted to go with the Greenworks 60V for my next battery mower, eventhough I am a diehard Makita user. It is that bad.

  • 45cm for those who wondering

    • It does include the in-store redemption of the trimmer for this model. Both the 6Ah and 5Ah models are listed as having the line trimmer as an in-store bonus + online redemption of blower/batteries. Not sure if it has to be a participating store or not. Click the Makita Mower Mania link in the deal.

All claim(s) must be made in-store at point of purchase. The final date for in-store bonus claim(s) is 30th September 2024.

  • We use these at work for the difficult to reach properties and we just leave them there. It's a great product and does the job.

  • I have the same mower. Got it for $660 with the bonus blower (which I then sold) a couple years ago. Has been great. Only downside is your forearms get sore holding the safety bar down after a while. It replaced an Ozito steel deck that became gutless after a few years, even with new batteries (5 year warranty ftw).

    • Trojan 50mm spring clamp from Bunnos at $4.48 sorts it out.

What modifications do I need to make to turn this into an ebike for the rebate?

    • Just take off 2 wheels and keep balance

  • From my research these are fine if you maintain your lawn at a reasonable height, however once you let it get a bit high then you might as well get your 4 stroke out. Many comments online on the lawn groups about people upgrading from these to a petrol mower.

a good petrol mower will always be better - i'm really liking these because of how much time i save setting up and lack of maintenance (i don't actually like doing yard work). I find when I leave it too long it does bog down a bit and has trouble filling the catcher evenly.

I have the 21" version and an 18" petrol.

The times I've been stalling the electric and got out the petrol I found the petrol still struggled. The difference being it choked up a little and kept going if I backed off, the electric dead stops as soon as it thinks it's trying too hard so I coud keep going with the petrol, where the electric couldn't.

    • I've had both… and I have buffalo in SEQ. In summer lawn grows FAST and thick.

Even with Petrol mower (Victa Pace) I had to mow weekly or the grass got so long, it with both stall the mower AND overfill the green waste bin if I left it fortnightly.

Mowing so frequently with petrol was a pain. I was constantly tracking my fuel, refilling, yadda yadda.. but I had zero intention of going electric. It was only when I saw the mower died and a great deal showed up that I thought… well ill give this electric makita a go (i was already in makita).

What I personally like is the mulcher attachement. There are no clippings to pick up this makes mowing so much faster when you dont have to stop all the time. Additionally, I dont have to keep an eye on my fuel or refuel… the general outcome is that I can get the job done faster and with less hassle and I wouldn't have it any other way.

If for some reason (like I was fifo or had a holiday house) and I could only mow fortnightly, I'd go for the most powerful mower I could… i.e. petrol. But thats not my situation.

  • you can order these from bunnings for $749 (depends on store YMMV) but includes the line trimmer too - im in QLD.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/makita-18vx2-brushless-460mm-18-…

I have heard that only stores advertising the in-store bonus line trimmer are participating in that particular promo.
