  • Have this, love it. On a 900 square block we can get about 3/4 done on 2 batteries.

    • What type of turf?
How long is that in operational time?

      • +2

Buffalo, about 30 minutes for 2 batteries. Obviously less if it's really long and it has to work hard. If you have a larger block grab some extra batteries when they are on sale.

        • How bad is the clogging. I read it clogs easily when the bag is half full if grass is not short.
          How is the mulch adapter?

          • +2

@bashar20: Not great, i got rid of this model and bought a petrol mower. Sick of the stalling

  • Is the weight an issue?

    • Certainly not while you are mowing. If you need to say, carry it down/up stairs to access different areas of your garden (like I do) then you do notice it a bit. Mostly becuase makita has only put a grab bar on the front and not the back… so it feels heavier due to the ergonomics in lifting it.

  • +3

Seems like a sign from the ozbargain gods to finally replace my 4 year old beat to death aldi petrol mower and unbelievably frustrating bump feed 2 stroke ryobi whipper snipper that takes about 15 minutes and 8 goes to start. So long petrol gods you will not be missed

    • +1

Follow up - grabbed this today and tested, both the line trimmer and lawnmower feel heavenly compared to what I was using before. Super easy to put together, so much easier to start. Great size on the mower. Got my $100 worth of points already as well. Time will tell but feels a worthy investment

      • Sorry about the data breach. Hope you paid cash and gave minimal personal details.

        • Win some lose more 🥲

Edit: no stored payment method thankfully

    • 4yrs… and here I am considering whether I should replace my 27yr old Honda

      • Tbf you can keep a petrol mower going indefinitely if you do the proper maintenance and repairs yourself. It’s just a lot of work, especially if the $150 Aldi mower isn’t worth the squeeze. I reckon the amount of times I’ve thought “what the hell am I keeping this going for” while doing oil changes, buying fuel stabilisers, replacing the rip cord handle, replacing spark plugs, sharpening the blunt blades (that came blunt honestly) and having to stop to empty the tiny grass catcher every 7 minutes would be in the hundreds

Would do it with a smile if I had a better mower to do it on. Alternatively, half those things aren’t really considerations anymore with an electric mower

      • I heard Honda has discontinued their peteol mowers?
        If true…the definitely a keeper

  • Be mindful if you price match, you will not get bonus points.

  • How do these compare to greenworks that was posted previously?

  • How does the 36V stuff compare with the 40v or 64v max gear?

    • 40v and 64v is only for professional, not worth the price difference

    • I have a 58V AEG from ages ago and its really great, quite good on a poorly maintained full of weed/ clover buffalo lawn at 600m2.
But battery is the issue, i do notice a decline in power once it down to 50%

The rear axle broke and still just within the 6 year warranty, got it replaced, and also realised the new 58V ones are double my original purchase price

    Need a makita chainsaw deal

  • Dang it! Just bought a RYOBI 36v kit!

  • I've been in the market for an electric mower for about 12 months now. I've had my eyes on higher power $1k+ models but I'm starting to think my regular suburban backyard really may not need that. I had my eyes on the Ozito 36v brushless deal a few days ago for only $300, of which I'm already in the battery ecosystem as well. My current whipper snipper solution is the Ozito toy with the red plastic tabs instead of line. Has done the job over the last couple of years but obviously is seriously lacking overall. Looking at this post I feel the value really comes from the 2 x free batteries and whipper snipper, with the mower on its own being $709.

As we're coming into summer I expect the electric mower deals to really start coming soon. Should I hodl just a little longer for the Ego/Greenworks deal I've been ever so patient for or is this with easily having $600 worth of freebies too good to pass up on?

    • Key question is how does this compare the 40v greenworks

60v greenworks is in a different league. However the greenworks plastics felt a bit cheap when I checked the 60v a few months ago.

Just picked up a demo Briggs and stratton 18v mower for $200 from bunnings, no catcher but comes with 2 batteries (ex shop floor).

  • Looks like a great deal but for the average home user would the easy warranty of Ozito or Ryobi from Bunnings be better?

Edit: I'm asking as I was about to buy from Bunnings but I'm tempted by this.

    • Bunnings sell these too.

      • Cheers. The extra $100 bonus credit from Total Tools is hard to pass up. Looks like you may be able to register skins on MyMakita for a 5-year limited warranty as well.

  • i have been using the Skil mower (40v) which seems to serve the purpose very well. but this is a good deal!

  • Is this in store only deal?
I call them to see if they have stock and they said it won't work if I purchase online

  • +1

It looks like a good deal until you look at buying into the whole makita ecosystem, then it looks like a bad deal because the RRP for everything is crazy.

    • You can pick up good deals for New tool skins and batteries on eBay or Facebook even.
Then you don’t end up with the cheapest model accessory thrown into a bundle.

  • bunnings selling same kit for 699. they're doing the same promo as well

also the 6ah version is 750 if anyone's interested

    • +1

Just checked on Bunnings, same price, no free line trimmer, and Total tools/Sydney tools has an extra $100 credit.
      https://www.bunnings.com.au/makita-18vx2-brushless-lawn-mowe…

      • i put down a special order for the pg2.
Bunnings rang Makita and confirmed it'll come with the trimmer as well

only a handful of Bunnings staff knew about the trimmer promo

        • @arman1201 - how did you get 699$ bunnings website shows 773$. Did you price match?

          • +1

@v1nn1e: showing 699 for me in qld.
            i priced matched the pg2 to 67x

            • @arman1201: Sadly the Bunnings one doesn’t show the line trimmer. My local Bunnings has it for $712. Told the nice total tools bloke I’d quickly run down to Bunnings and come back if they wouldn’t include the line trimmer. He said f**k it I’ll just match it. $712 for the bundle along with $100 store credit, which I might put towards the smaller MAKITA blower ($155) and redeem the two batteries. If I do this should be out of pocket $767 for two chargers, 5 batteries, a mower, line trimmer and a blower.

TLDR- ask for a price match with Bunnings, you might get lucky.

      • FWIW just picked up from Bunnings mower plus trimmer. Bunnings also updated their site to show both promos too

        • @arman1201 - What's the process in store to get these at Bunnings - just scan both items and the bonus trimmer comes up as free?
I can now see the Bunnings web is updated thankfully, but my experience with the Bunnings staff has been pretty poor lately. Went in over the last weekend and Bunnings staff had no idea of the promo - no signage anywhere, and basically fobbed me off telling me it was a Total Tools / Sydney Tools only deal…
Just dont want to run into more hassles when I go in - hoping its a seamless experience to get the in-store offer added for free
And the price has also now gone up to $773 at Bunnings as well - was $712 a few days ago…. arggh!!!

          • +2

@eterno: I got them to price match the $739 price at total tools (https://www.toolmart.com.au/makita-dlm464pt2.html?gad_source…) - and I got the 10% off for price beating, so ended up paying $665. I told them that the promo includes the free trimmer so after a chat with the manager (as nobody was aware as you thought would be the case) she added it for free - no worries. Just redeemed the 2 batteries online - the whole kit (mower, with 2 batteries plus dual charger, trimmer with battery and charger and 2 additional batteries via the online redemption) for $665 is pretty amazing! Had no issues - just a quick chat with them at the info desk.

          • +1

@eterno: tbh not sure as mine was a special order. staff didnt know about the promo so had to educate them.
now that its on their own site should be pretty easy to convince them

regarding the price as long as u can price match it i see it as a potential win.

  • Just a heads up, the toolmart one has gone up to $739

  • Should be able to price match based off their own T's&C's https://www.totaltools.com.au/price-match-guarantee

  • Hope this will prompt Ego to do a meaningful deal soon.

  • This or Ryobi? bit confuse to choose which one to buy

    • +2

Makita is more of a trade standard tooling. Ryobi is more of a high end DIY.

  • How does this gear compare to my existing patrol stuff?? I have a Honda mower (4 stroke 216) and stihl trimmer (2 stroke 55)

  • How did u guys get the 100 credit? Does it appear somewhere in your account?

All good found it after order was processed. Credit expires next year 2025.

  • +4

Not much feedback in the comments so far so I thought I'd share my experience upgrading from Ozito PXC to Makita.

I have a full suite of Ozito PXC brushless tools, except for a mower and line trimmer (I just have the 18V grass trimmer with the red plastic blades). I have the dual battery chainsaw and a single battery hedge trimmer. For reference we have about 500m2 of grass at our place.

We purchased the full powerhead setup from Milwaukee at work and I was blown away by the power of the 2x18V offering from team red. I swiftly embarked on a mission to purchase a matching setup for the jungle at home. There was a 10% sale that I spotted and I started carefully planning how I would hide $3000 worth of Milwaukee tools from my significant other. For some reason, I decided to hold off…

Then, This Deal came up. I quickly did the ring around to a bunch of tradie mates and confirmed Makita was top notch equipment, then pulled the trigger. Suffice to say, I think the Makita actually edges out the Milwaukee 36V powerhead, although it does have a slight disadvantage in that the Makita is definitely a bit heavier than the nice red stuff (however at this price point who can complain).

Fast forward and I'm now preparing my casket, because every waking hour I'm looking at which Makita tools I'll buy next. Mrs is always going crook because all I do is look at Green tools and stuff I don't need on FB Marketplace. The tools have been fantastic. The battery's (IMO) last longer than the equivalent Milwaukee 18V's and the warranty is a big upside. It's annoying to register the tools but obviously well worth it for the peace of mind.

In terms of comparison to the Ozito PXC, it's like day and night. The Makita whipper snipper on max speed nearly cut through the 5cm thick base of one of the rose bushes at home. Whereas the little Ozito grass trimmer bogs up on most thicker tufts of grass. Separately, I also got a Makita mid torque impact wrench and it is quite literally like comparing a spud gun to a death star. The pole saw attachment on the Makita cuts so well that I'm considering just selling the Ozito. The Makita snipper saves me over an hour in labour to properly freshen up our entire yard and nature strip.

My old Victa 18" mower is a massive chore to operate on our lawns, even in winter I'm sweating by the time I'm done. I'd like to think the 18" Makita would certainly be an improvement, however given the slope of the yard I'm thinking of going all out and getting the 21" self-propelled.

In summary, you have my full internet stranger support on your new Makita tools :)

    • Brush vs brushless is not a fair comparison. That said, Makita is obviously more premium as it's aimed more at tradies and ozito is purely diy.

  • Any Dewalt deals? Asking cos I have a drill I just bought

  • Thanks, bought this today. I am thinking to sell the redeemable item on market place as I dont need it. Just need suggestions on what is better for redemption, batteries or blower for selling it on market place.

    • +1

Batteries will be easier to sell, looks like around $100 a pop brand new on marketplace. Maybe $175 for both would get you a quick sale. Blowers seem to be over saturated on marketplace, probably from deals like this. Prices vary wildly, one blokes offering $100, others trying their luck for $250. I’d go batteries personally

  • +2

Bought these from Bunnings just then for $712 but was given the next model up trimmer instead. SCORED!!!

    • Does Bunnings have the same deal or did you have to ask for it / negotiate? Online just suggests the standard redemption offer with no line trimmer included. Not sure i want to go down to my local and try negotiate as they are always finding ways to squirm out of price matching or similar

      • bunnings now have bonus trimmer and 2 batteries

    • damn, I should have checked stock beforehand!

  • -1

Do these come with free security breaches, loss of identity & credit card details and data hand-balled the the dark web?

  • Thanks OP.

Ended up ordering the self propeller 36v mower kit today through Bunnings special order (https://www.bunnings.com.au/makita-18vx2-brushless-534mm-sel…)

Also had them price beat 10% off Sydney tools price of $1599 as Bunnings had it listed today for $1650. The deal went down to $1431 (https://sydneytools.com.au/product/makita-dlm536pt4x-36v-18v…)

  • Is this https://makita.com.au/service-support/202309a the online redemption form? Doesn't work for me as it's not showing.

  • hey everyone, has anyone recently tried to claim the line trimmer? do i just ask the person at bunnings or is this deal over? thanks

  • Is the Bunnings deal still running (or via Price Match)? Keen to get it from Bunnings with all accessories

  • This is still on minus the bonus points

    • 20% bonus points ($100) now back on for today only
