      • Sorry that was my morning brain… Just realised i tried to buy maatercard instead of visa

  • Bought 5. There was none on shelf and the staff said they have them behind the counter

They also didn't allow split payment. Is this a thing? Surely not

  • Had to settle for $100s. $250s were sold out.

    Happy hunting!

@capslock All stores should have that and the normal display!

    • you should be lucky none around me . where was this ?

  • +1

Thanks, I got two $250, please check the packaging carefully. One of mine was tampered with. Last four digits and CCV scratched out! Called the number in the T&Cs and they put a block on it straight away. Let’s see how many weeks it takes to get a replacement.

Happy hunting, but please be vigilant!! There are scumbags out there.

    • Out of curiosity, did the security check at the back of the pack pass for the tampered card?

      • +1

The card packaging was intact as far I could see at the time of purchase.

The way it was tampered I could only think is perhaps some gentle heat applied to the side of the packaging and then they could slide the card out?

Another lesson of the story for me is to use the cards immediately to greatly reduce the risk of unauthorised transactions to the card.

    • What was the expiry of that card and where did you purchase it? I am also in Vic and plan to get some today.

      • +1

get them now or they run out . any gift card should have minimum 3 years .

        • council rates enough to use all 5 cards lol…no need to know the expiry date haha…

          • @mooreshady: I wanted the expiry date to see which batch the corrupted cards came from.

      • +1

        04/29

    • +1

which store was that? just for others to avoid / be careful

    • Did you have any images of what you meant by last 4 digits and CCV being scratched out? Would help me look out for any cards that were tempered in the future.

    • How long?

  • +1

My 2nd local store actually changed the display and had over 100 on display

  • "error Transaction declined
Contact your card issuer. We were unable to process your payment."

anyone else also getting this error paying to ATO?

    • Is your gift card activated? Read this to see what I think is the problem.

      • oh thanks i might try again in a few minutes. i checked in vallinabalance site and it has the line item "Activate And Load Card" tho

      • +1

thankss it worked now. a few minutes make a difference

Can confirm that they do not work for DEFT payments either. Expected but I held out hope. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/849205

    • It was confirmed some time ago :)

  • any one tried paying via woolies eftpos cards?

  • How long does it take for these cards to be activated and ready for use?

  • Will these work to pay off a council rate bill?

    • Depends on council. Works for mine.

  • Has anyone been able to use these to purchase the discounted Ultimate GC’s at Aldi?

  • Im new to this! Do you still earn base fly buy points?

    • +1

      Just base.
      No extra promos apply

  • can u use these at prezzee?

    • these USED to work through PayPal. but it was hit and miss as it worked for me but not for family

  • Managed to get 50x $250 cards. Plenty of stock at Bacchus Marsh, Tarniet Central, Manor Lakes if anyone out west is still hunting.

    • You have 10 flybuys account? Well done. Planning to get another 50 x 6 days?

      • Yeah, I set up a few burner Flybuys accounts a few days ago. Only reason I didn't get more is I didn't have enough Flybuys accounts! I might get a few more tomorrow, that should cover my entire PAYG/BAS tax bill on Oct 1st

        • $87.5k in tax? Well done sir.

          • +1

@lilkid28: lol no - 50x $250 is $12,500, my quarterly PAYG is around $11,000 and then there's GST too, which this quarter looks to be around $3000.

    • Damn I shoulda done that. Free money is best money. I wonder if I could sign up for a bunch of flybuy accounts now and pull it off.

  • +4

Found lots of $250 at Coles Highpoint in Maribyrnong VIC!

  • Can I use to "pay" the ATO even if dont officially owe them?

I haven't done tax return yet but I know will owe money due to CGT, and want to use the cards up ASAP to reduce security concerns.

    • Yes. However some people have reported a nightmare situation where the ATO automatically refunded all their cards.

    • Yes, I have done this many times with no problem. As long as you will owe money I doubt they would refund. Anyway, I always keep the used cardboard cases.

      • Why do you keep the cases? I keep the cards. If they refund you though you won't know which card got a refund. Sorting through my pile of cards and checking the balances on the website would take me forever.

        • I keep the cards with the cases. I make a note on the case of the date and where it was spent.

  • Broadmeadows had heaps at 5:35pm

  • getting error when trying to pay rates ": Declined - Exceeds withdrawal frequency limit"

    • +1

Did you purchase and use them within 30 minutes?

Activation is $7.50not $6.75 for the $250 giftcard

    • +1

      It's $6.75 after the discount.

  • +3

At least 300 $250 left at southern cross coles

  • +2

For those with HCF, consider buying the Grocery Choice prepaid cards, currently with 4% discount, to buy these. The $1000 limit monthly purchase limit means you can only buy 4 of the $250 Vanilla Visa cards but a good discount stack nonetheless.

    • great idea but have you tried it? on the surface sounds like paying gift card with gift card which doesn't always work

      • I just buy 5% off woolies gc with these via paypal. Seems alright.

        • That's a stack in the other direction. They can be combined.

You can buy HCF Grocery Choice card (or Shopback Supermarket but the 0.5% discount and the max value of $300 and the inability to make split payments at Coles when purchasing gift cards makes it almost pointless), use the Grocery Choice card to buy the Vanilla Visa cards, and use the Vanilla Visa cards to buy discounted Woolworths gift cards.

          • @tbone74: I have split payments many times when purchasing GC at manned checkouts. I only had a problem once and have since again done so at the same store. It was an older lady making up her own rules. It's best to stick to the younger casuals.

            • @Yola: Interesting. I know the self checkouts at Coles don't work for split payments for gift cards, they give an error. I've asked at manned checkouts a few times in recent months (older and younger staff) and each time was told it can't be done. Doesn't surprise me if in fact it can be done, and I think in the past that it worked (but I could easily be thinking of Woolworths) but haven't had any luck lately when asking.

Whereas at Woolworths I've never been rejected when asking to make a split payment for gift cards.

              • @tbone74: Was this at one store? The staff may have been instructed not to do it. I have done it in the last few weeks.

        • @Frozensage through what website are you able to purchase Woolworths for 5% discount and pay via PayPal using the Visa cards?

      • +1

Yes I bought the Vanilla Visa cards using HCF Grocery Choice myself to confirm it still works before posting the suggestion.

    • This works fine? Did you try?

    • Yeah we need some confirmation that this actually works

    • Didn't work when I tried to buy a Vanilla Visa at Woolworths. Haven't tried at Coles.

    • +1

I used category choice grocery to buy coles mastercard before and it worked.

  • Anyone know if using a TCN Luxury eftpos card works for these?

  • I assume these don't earn kitchen knife credits? Promo says excludes gift cards…

    • +4

No, you don't earn credits. Otherwise, all knives would have been gone by now

  • Anyone know their contact number/email? I got 1 of my purchase refunded, but I couldn't use it to pay even for something like $2.
When I checked my balance, initially it was still showing as 0, so I thought I'd wait. But now I couldn't check my balance any longer on https://www.vanillabalance.com/, it keeps showing red cross with this error:
    Following are the error(s)
    1. Please activate your card to proceed

    • Nvm, found the number on the back of the card. The CS explained that the card was suspended (hence I can't login/check balance) because of the refund (this is the first time I did refund on this card), so he needed to unblock it manually (after verifying that the refund indeed coming from the same merchant that I paid)

  • Hi again @WookieMonster, do you know if I can use these to buy Celebration or TCN GC's from Coles? Looks like there were a couple of 15% deals around October/November last year.

    • +1

The same guidance I provided to you before pretty much applies to TCN gift cards and Celebration gift cards, i.e.:

      • The checkout should not reject the Vanilla Visa gift card immediately.

      • If you are redeeming more than ~$35 from the Vanilla Visa gift card, you will be asked for a PIN. If you instead follow the signature verification process, the checkout will print out a small receipt for you to provide your signature, and the staff member is supposed to compare that signature you provide to the signature on the gift card and/or your signature on any ID you have.

      • Whether the staff member will allow you to use the Vanilla Visa gift card as a payment method may depend on some factors. For example, if the staff member has no idea why you are going through the signature verification (because it is a highly unusual way to verify a transaction in Australia nowadays), the staff member may reject the signature out of caution. Additionally, the deal terms and conditions clearly state that you cannot use a gift card to purchase a gift card at Coles, so if a staff member is particularly attentive and notice you wanting to use a Vanilla Visa gift card to purchase a gift card, they can choose to reject it (if they care enough to enforce this rule).

    • +1

@CyberHippy It is risky holding these cards unused for that long. The perceived OzB wisdom is to use them straight away to minimise the risk of unused cards being hacked. A few OzB members have suffered that fate in the last few card promos (I am one).

  • Is there a maximum of how many cards you can put through the ATO per day? Card declined on my 6th use but balance is intact according to the website.

    • +2

5 throught mygov, and 5 through govteasypay

    • I was able to do 10 x through mygov in one day.

      • +1

Apparently the payment limit on myGov is 5 cards every 12 hours, which would explain how you were able to use 10 cards in one day.

  • Does FB distinguish between the two denominations? i.e. can you get 5x $100 and 5x$250, or subject to staff discretion?

    • Yes it does

      • oh so technically each flybuys can buy 5x $100 + 5x $250 (providing staff will allow, which I doubt)?

        • +1

not sure.. .try if the discount comes through before paying

  • Does anyone find $250.00 card available in South Eastern suburbs Coles? Thanks!

    • This morning Coles Doncaster still has $100

  • Funny, when you don't go specifically to find these, you get them. Plenty in stock, bought 2 of them, one of them was added to paypal and bought 5% off wish gift cards through seniors link. No issues. Other one, I will leave it unopened for now, incase I can stack with any Preeeze offers where paying by paypal is available…

  • Can I choose to use a password when using the card for first time?

    • +2

I assume you meant a PIN? If so, no.

The Cardholder Agreement enclosed in the packaging says that the gift card cannot be used if a PIN is required to authorise a transaction. In other words, the only type of verification you can do for in-person transactions is signature verification.

I know the packaging for the newer gift cards says on the back that a PIN is "optional", but that is actually incorrect. If you attempt to set a PIN on the first in-person transaction where you are asked for one, the transaction will be declined.

forgot to scan flybuys on 3 cards.. anyone went through this before? Store says flybuys should be able to do it

    • I have done this before. I had the points added in-store and it worked but that was a deal when it was additional FB points. This seems more difficult. To add points in-store you have 7 days at the same store. It is easy to make a mistake I watch if a discount has been applied before paying.

    • +1

So you paid full price on 3 cards?

  • Tried to use a $250 card in bunnings, automatically said Transaction not allowed. The guy at the counter said they always have problems with prepaid gift cards. Now i have a pending transaction of $190 that i cant use while I have to wait " 7 days" for it to be rejected and returned.

    • Did this happen because you tried to enter a pin?

      • -3

Nope, i pressed enter and it declined. Also tried to just book flights with qantas and Virgin and it wouldnt accept them. These cards are shit!

  • Plenty of $250 cards around Melton if anyone's still looking.

    • missed this comment, went to daylesford instead, none left. someone's def hoarding these in ballarat, couldn't get a single card, fingers crossed another deal comes up in nov, big bills coming up

  • Any Coles still have cards?
