It provides great value. Free express shipping instead of slow ass regular post. $5 off (often multiples) per months.

I have Prime, EBay Plus and OnePass. Wouldn’t want to be without any of them.

      • +17

Still annoys me that the express shipping isn't included for Perth - understandably for variably priced express shipping but for the things that go in the express satchels that cost the same to ship Australia wide I am a grumpy boy.

But must admit even without that benefit I still use eBay Plus a fair amount for random purchases and even though the Final Value Fee sales deals have dried up dramatically, it pays for itself generally with a couple sales per year.

        • +2

So no quick Perth deliveries? What do u get with EBay plus then just the odd discounts?

          • @iDeker: Discounts and “free” delivery along with the odd minimal final value fee on sales promo which is probably what makes it the most worthwhile in my case.

If it was $49 I probably wouldn’t but it’s been $10 in the past so that’s a lovely price point

            • @MBix: for 5 bucks, why not. but doesnt seem like its for me. dont see the discount anywhere

        • I think they must use some shitty company like Couriers Please or something, and it's impossible to do express shipping to Perth when everything comes via train.

It annoys me as well, I would never pay $49 for it but don't mind paying $5 or $10.

          • @bonezAU: Nah majority of stuff still comes via Australia Post sadly

            • +1

@MBix: Oh wow, so they're using ePackets but eBay doesn't want to fork out the extra to send to Perth metro.

              That's very low of them.

      • +2

        I have Prime, EBay Plus

I'm still holding out against Prime :-D
but yeah, after reluctantly joining eBay Plus,
this is my 2nd year, and it's already paid for itself.

        • +12

I'm still holding out against Prime

Wow, you've been missing out. I can't imagine living without it, 2023 I had over 400 orders. My Prime Gaming library alone is already over 300+ free games.

          • +9

            @Lucille Bluth:

            Wow, you've been missing out

Yes, this year, I really felt like that.

I just don't like subscription models, and I don't have any, other than eBay Plus.

Besides, I'm not into gaming, so that's not a sell for me, however, the Amazon deals are just too good, so next time there's a membership deal, I might just have to take up on it :-D

So far, I don't buy anything unnecessary, … and that's because I don't have the membership, haha

            • +8

@whyisave: You better get use to the subscription model, even to live in Australia you will need to pay your subscription fee (tax) unless if you still eligible for free trial (earning less than ~19k).

              • +2

                @flickr: Or are extremely wealthy!

              • +3

                @flickr:

You better get use to the subscription model

Yeah, ..what's the saying: "you'll own nothing, something something".

I understand why it's done and it works like a drug-dealer:
the first hit is free, and then it's cheap…but once you get hooked, and your life depends on it,
the prices start to increase, and I start telling you how good it is, so everyone starts wanting it too.
                (PS: Not condoning drugs !)

Amazon membership was cheaper, and the minimum spend was $39 for free deliveries, but now it's $59.
                Still not so bad.

Also, knowing that the subscription is still there, I may as well buy soft drinks, dishwashing tablets, screwdrivers, etc. So, slowly…the spending creeps up.

I'm not saying it's bad, because ultimately, we are living in a consumerist society, and we need to maintain a certain standard of living by buying and using products (eg. network switch, screwdrivers, socks, etc.)
I'm just saying that I resist this subscription model, knowing that I may not 'curb my enthusiasm' buying stuff :-D

                subscription fee (tax)

                I mean, if I don't work, I don't pay tax, right ?
If I don't buy products, then I won't pay GST.
Then again, by not paying tax, I would still benefit from the Medicare system.

I thought about this, and I was discussing with a colleague as a thought experiment, about Council rates, which is forced upon all of us (not tenants).
                Example:
                If I own my home.
I decide to harvest my own rainwater. I cut off the water company.
I put my own solar panels, and have my own storage batteries. I cut off from the energy supplier.
                I don't need gas.
I don't need garbage bin removals.
Yet, I would pay thousands in Council rates, and that's forced onto everyone.
There's no way out of this.

                • +1

@whyisave: Why would you not need garbage bin removals? You don't consume anything, wrapped in plastic?

Plus you wouldn't drive anywhere, driving on council paid roads? Plus you wouldn't go out to council paid parks, reserves and other facilities like libraries?

                  • @odysseus: I meant that Council provides the garbage removal service. If I didn't want that service, I still need to pay Council rates.

I did not know that Council pays for roads.
Isn't that a state government function?

I don't need access to parks or libraries.

I would still be forced Council rates, yet taxes are kind of not compulsory.

                    • +1

@whyisave: State gov for freeways and arterials. Council for local roads

                      • @Shmeestar: OK.

That's made it clearer to me now.

I didn't know that Councils looked after the roads, in my vicinity.

That justifies paying Council rates then :-D

                • +1

                  @whyisave:

Yet, I would pay thousands in Council rates, and that's forced onto everyone.

Of course you would, because by living there you are consuming the services your council provides. Clearly you need to pay for them, just like everyone else !

Your council spends money on Capital Works, Transport & Access, Environment, Community Support, Leisure & Culture, and Area Development.
These are all services that you use, directly or indirectly.
The Capital Works category alone includes Buildings, Roads, Footpaths, Cycleways, Carparks, Drainage, Recreational Facilities, and Parks.

                • +1

@whyisave: There have been talks where Aboriginal people will be exempted from Land Tax. I am not sure if this has been implemented.

                  • @skillet: Land tax is not imposed on those, that live on their 'principal property',
but land tax is payable for those whose investment property has land.

So, does this mean, the indigenous who are required to pay land tax, may not need to pay this?

                    Interesting…

              • @flickr: Actually you still qualify for a free trial earning below $22,575.

Coupon code LITO automatically applied at checkout.

Individuals with a taxable income below $22,575 will not pay income tax, due to the $18,200 tax-free threshold and the low income tax offset.

          • +10

@Lucille Bluth: Prime is only worth it if you stream. What you'll actually discover is that for free shipping, $59 threshold is quite reasonable.

I thought I'd have prime forever. 6 months ago I gave it up. I'm not missing it.

            • +5

@justtoreply: I buy a lot of stuff under $59. In fact most of my orders are under this threshold. And I want next day delivery, if you meet the $59 threshold for free delivery with a non-Prime account, it's not next day.

I don't even utilise the Prime Video, I have Stremio+Real Debrid. Find it's more convenient. But it is a nice add-on even with ads now (that you can pay to remove of course).

              • +5

@Lucille Bluth: I just wait and buy a couple things to meet $59. Seems to work. I don't understand needing fast delivery

            • +1

@justtoreply: I think it is 79$ now for streaming with Ads on prime

            • @justtoreply: It’s $79 now plus $2.99pcm if you want ad-free streaming. However if you are with Telstra you can buy Amazon Prime renewal with reward points. Depends on how much you spend a year with Telstra, but it’s probably available for all tiers or at least Silver and Gold.

          • +3

@Lucille Bluth: I’m getting rid of mine in October. I had an annual subscription. I feel like Prime has some positives but also makes it too easy to just buy rubbish.

If I gamed more, it’d be more valuable but I don’t really.

            • +1

              @kiriakoz: Same.

I game, but Amazon discontinued its prime bonus program this year, so the game bonuses are no more.

              • -1

@odysseus: The only subscription I've kept so far is the Indian version of Spotify (costing around $3.50 per month), which I use when I exercise. Other than that, I'm happy with the free streaming (iview & sbs).

          • @Lucille Bluth: Not to mention Prime Video + Amazon Music

          • @Lucille Bluth:

            over 300+ free games

how many have you played though :)

            • +1

@hughes: Making my way through them slowly, got a Steam Deck few weeks back.

        • I think i have a code for 3 months Amazon Prime, messagd me if you want it.

        • Prime have a lot of good documentaries, soccer, cricket, etc. I even liked the one on Pink. And you get about 2000 electronic books & magazines.

      • +4

Sometimes didn't actually received express shipping, only regular snail mail. Unsure if that's due to the vendor.

        • Because I’m in a large regional Victorian city I might get some things within two days, but more and more Amazon AU bring in stuff from UK, DE and USA. If that happens then it’s more like a week or more.

I chat with colleagues overseas who get same day delivery if there is a AMZN depot in their city and also on weekends. However US Prime is over USD$150 last time someone told me.

Amazon have to keep the prices relatively cheap given they only have 3? Logistics distribution points, MEL, SYD, BNE. Adelaide should be able to get goods at the same speed, but road freight is four days to Perth. Anything with a Li-Ion or LiFE4PO sticker on it will generally ship road freight. Though some items may go on planes, typically they stick to road.

Yes, Perth gets shafted in many ways, alas the majority of the population is in the eastern states. Feel bad for some of places up North like Darwin or FNQ. No battery it might get shipped by plane, but anything with a battery still goes by road afaik, someone correct me if I’m wrong.

      • +7

Fast shipping does nothing for me. I'm happy to wait.

        • +1

Totally agree. I actually think fast shipping is a bad thing in general, it makes people impatient and then have a whinge when something takes a day or so more. Honestly, I think that kind of thing is unsustainable, especially not good on the environment. I'm not some extreme greeny, I think fast shipping is extreme, not me.

      • +4

I'm in SA, 150k north of Adelaide. Have had ebay plus for a couple of years. I don't recall ever getting express shipping on anything purchased from ebay. Typical tracking:

(SYD or MELB) >> to some depot
        Some depot >> to despatch
        (2 - 4 days) >> arrived ADL airport
        ADL >> Netley (in transit)
        Netley 2 days later
        '
Parcel arrives 7 to 10 days after despatch

YET, I have received parcels from Hong Kong within four days.

        Go figure….

      • Defs same for all except OnePass - just barely justify it for me but I can easily understand others using it.

    • +1

Don't they have two pricing tiers.. one of + and one for normal users

      • No. Normal doesn't have a price. eBay would be dead if they forced that onto free users.

      • +1

Are you thinking of two discount codes with plus getting an extra 2%?

    • +7

If they paid you for a membership, then you'd still complain.

Plenty of products are cheaper on eBay than on Amazon or anywhere else, stack with coupons and you're way ahead.

      $5 is a no brainer.

      • +2

They did pay me for a membership ($10/year, plus $20 cashback), and I do still complain

        • Well I'm complaining about your complaining, so I technically win.

          • @TEER3X: If you complain about my complaining, I’m going to complain about that

      • Last time I checked you can’t “stack coupons” with eBay, unless you mean get cash back from one of the various services that offer it.

    • Getting neg is kind of a trend, I have seen this comment before with a lot of upvotes :))
Anyways I was an ebay fan with no Amazon but ahve to admit Amazon won me over and I agree ebay plus is no longer needed for me, unless for $5 per year or something like that

    • I don't understand how comments like these are still being posted on eBay deals.

  • +8

It says 4.99p/m for me :(

    • Same.

I'm wondering who is target? Its been about 5 years since I bought something.

  • +20

I think that's targeted, it comes up as $19 for 1 year for me

    • Me too, also seems to come with a $30 voucher though so I signed up again.

      • How? Targeted?

  • -4

    That's how much it's worth

  • +1

    targeted

  • +28

The value of eBay plus has definitely diminished. The $5 off per month had a $15 minimum spend, then went to $50 and then to $35 when I last checked.

eBay Tuesday deals are rubbish now. There was a time the deals were pretty good

I can see how eBay Plus offers value to people with express post with some sellers. I prefer Amazon Prime and One Pass as subscription models, but each to their own.

For those who want to access the annual eBay sale, just pay $5 for a month at that time.

    • +3

I can see how eBay Plus offers value

The value is in getting discounted FVF.

      • Which is getting worst.

        • If the retailers are having to pay up to 50% or more of the discount fee, plus their commission to eBay, you’ll find low margin stuff suddenly is out of stock everywhere anyone is participating. Making barely $8 (so I’m told) on a 2TB Samsung Evo 980 with or without a Heat Sink is just not worth it.

    • I can’t remember how much I paid for a year of eBay plus but it’s been good value for me. Reduced FVF on sales, reduced postage costs on sales, free shipping on some of my purchases + eBay plus exclusive discounts (was only slightly higher than what non eBay plus got mind you). Definitely got my money back and more.

  • Targeted me thinks

  • +4

$19 for me, must be targeted.
Cost of a cup of coffee is about right, but not $19.

    • Yeah, Im seeing $19 also, which I saw on my account 2 weeks ago. Will keep waiting….

  • +12

Watch out I got a offer for a free trial & it charged me $49 when I got onto eBay they said I had a free trial 5 years prior that's why so I asked for a refund ,No refunds given .

    • +1

Sometime when getting the cheaper per year still get charged full price even after clicking the banner and says discounted price. Check bank after sub. Jump on chat and they refund extra. also take screenshot before buying to show banner as they ask for it.
Happened 2 or 3 times for me. Been on eBay since 2004. More issues last 5 years.

    • +3

Yup same sht they charged me full $49 when I clicked on the given $1 promotion . I'm cancelling this year for sure.

    • +2

Yikes! Yes it shows me $19 on the Plus page but I've had it before (and subsequently cancelled when the value for money became poor).

    • +5

Same happened to me, $1 promo, showed as $1 on every page including checkout page, but bank was charged $49. Had to show them screenshots and even then they tried to claim I wasn't eligible and that refunds were impossible. Excruciating talking to eBay support, the very worst out there.

      • -1

Exactly what happened to me. I won't be renewing

  • -3

But where are the pedants protecting their OzTurf because you forgot the dollar sign?

  • +1

If you let your eBay Plus membership lapse, ie. don't renew it.
After about 2-weeks from expiry, you'll get a better offer to renew.

  • Mine shows $5.99/mth, guessing I buy too much already.

  • +6

targeted.. for me its $30 useless voucher and regular price $49

  • +2

Can anyone please explain how to see the deal on the ebay website?
When I click on the link it just takes me to the ebay home page???
Newbie here and need help lol :) Thank you x

    • +1

Go down to the menu settings/ my ebay tab look for ebay plus should be at the bottom

      • I did that and couldn't see any offer anywhere.

  • +2

    Mine says $4.99/month. $19.99/year

  • +1

    No offer for me

  • My current offer says I will save $30 and it will cost me just $19 to sign up. I seem to think its been trying to tempt me with this for quite a while now…. how much longer do you have to hold out for them to go to $5 I wonder?

  • no offer but 30day free trial. It seems I haven't used ebay for a few months. And my prime membership was cancelled years ago.

  • -4

    I got mine for free

  • Fml I paid $19 a few weeks ago

  • +1

I went to cancel and they offered me a $30 voucher to stay. meh

    • Those vouchers usually always have a minimum spend amount on them too, like $30 with a $200 spend. Makes them basically useless

      • In my experience, they also expire within 30 days

  • link goes no where

  • +3

Wouldn't mind renewing at $5/yr. Haven't used the Plus benefits much of late. The $5 off that eBay gives has a minimum purchase of $25 (this used to be $15 if memory serves me right). Then the other vouchers it's given me has hmm.. quite high minimum purchase… let's see… $5 off $50 purchase, save $10 off $100-$599 spend and so on.

    YMMV.

  • $5… a month for me.

  • Crazy how there are so many pricing options. 49 a year for me

  • +1

mine says 1 month free then $49 py…

  • No deal for me unfortunately.

But would be interesting to know how they target these. Do I need to look more poor and needy, or more like a sucker who'll forget to turn off auto-renew Etc.
