      Any times appreciated.

      10:00am & 3:00pm are my go to favourites…

EV Switch is the cheapest at $500.
BYD is giving them free with a car purchase so check Facebook marketplace for someone selling it cheaper if they can't use it.
      https://www.evswitchstore.com.au/

      • @inrover are BYD still giving them for free? Checked their site but couldn’t find any info on it.

    • In my experience, cheap OCPP is far from good. Worth spending the little extra and getting a quality brand.
In my case, I bought one of the Ocular charges from EVSE. Never again.

Why so much for a cable?
I see maybe $10 worth of copper, lots of plastic and a 50 cent IC in the Bill of Materials.

    • Yep, I was thinking the same but ended up getting one in the end mainly for the free charging at the shops. All the high speed DC have the cable built in. I think it would have paid for itself in no time compared to fuel.

    • +1

Quite a bit of engineering in this cable - would say it's reasonable value for money as far as cables go compared to price of some USB and HDMI cables! Weatherproof, UV resistant, impact resistant, kink resistant, moulded plastic / synthetic rubber, properly insulated to handle 22 kW of juice flowing through it, compliance with electrical safety regulations and marking thereof - warranted for 2 years.

Best money saving idea is to try to get all these different cables thrown in by the car manufacturer when you buy the car.

$6/m retail for actual cable. Low voltage (415V between phase), so the insulation requirement is same as any appliance. But the plugs seem to cost a bloody fortune! Patents?

        • Dont use cablepro for anything, bunch of incompetent idiots working there. Their departments dont talk to each other, they can barely operate a phone let alone answer emails.

          Avoid at all costs.

    • Think about how much you pay for an apple iPhone charger

      • You mean the cable? $5 now that they use a standard USB-C connector.

These comments are regularly made on Ozbargain concerning manufactured items, implying that the cost of the materials is a very small proportion ($10 of $188.10, or 5.3% in this case) of the purchase price.

If there really is that much margin, buy the $10 of materials and make your own! Or perhaps you've got no idea of the cost?

I'm sure you are a smart guy just acting dumb, and understand economics of scale better than that.

Wholesale costs are easily seen, e.g. Alibaba.
        https://www.alibaba.com/showroom/5m-ev-charging-cable.html

The answer to my question appears to lie in the plugs, as the cable is crazy cheap in quantity.
        https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/EV-Combined-Power-and…

I asked as am curious if the plugs are difficult to make, or have steep license costs.

Mate, I think you’ve identified a gold mine! Go take that $10 materials cost and sell it here for 5x, heck make it 10x coz you’re alllowdd to be greedy and post it here as a $100 cable and I’ll buy it!

But, make sure it’s legit, RCM certified, shipped etc etc. love to see good competition.

@cloudy: No need to be an arse, I was only asking a question. If you can't answer why they are expensive wholesale (like A$100) , best top keep your mouth closed.

            • @bargaino: Not trying to be, not sure why you are so rude.

              • -1

@cloudy: Right, you were being serious. Sure thing, "mate".

                • @bargaino: Thinking everyone is against you is a great way to make friends, good luck with life (honestly, good luck, you seem like you need it)

    • Capitalism, that's why.

  • What's the difference between a type 2 cable here for $180 vs $100 on ebay

    • +20

      $80

    • TBH, nothing really, just buy and use it at your own risk.

    • Maybe it is liability thing? Nice saving if all goes well. It may not, your insurance company may not like that they won't be able to find responsible company to question them about product quality (may influence payout). Not claiming though that one better than another. Sometimes it is worth to pay a bit more to have a decent point of blame. All personal opinion off course.

      an RCM tick!

I think all ev chargers are grossly overpriced at the moment, so we should see these discounts becoming more common. I say this on the basis component costs and Any R & D done for it. The installation costs too overpriced. Reminds me of the time we had roof battens scheme. Wish there was more by the government.

  • +3

Just a reminder that you can get a EV home charger installed by Xpeng for about $60,000. You get a free Xpeng G6 EV with it too.

  • This looks like the same thing for $145: delivered. Type 2-Type 2 Three Phase 5m | 22kW

  • Tessories also running a similar sale with their charging accessories

  • 10% off my EV, please? Shit, who am I kidding. 30% off, please.

  • Some on eBay priced around $100 I don’t know how to tell the difference and can’t find any info like comparison or review.
    For example https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/315488746746?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…
Any insights you guys can share?

  • I picked one up two days ago from them in person. Quite the odd experience (as I showed up without having put in an order). Cable works as expected.

Keen to find a cheap granny charger, surprised how much the Tesla mobile charger is.

    • There’s one portable charger I can see on Amazon for $173 but I can’t link it. Can’t believe the genuine Tesla granny charger is now $550.

    • Keen to find a cheap granny charger

ebay/ali/gumtree has many cheapo ones, if you trust them.

I got mine from these guys below, but they don't get much love here but I researched for a while and they sell the cheapest - when on one of those sales- granny charger that's legit certified, with warranty shipped next day. No where has it cheaper that I can find.

  • I bought mine from ANZU Charging. They come with the RCM mark and prices seem reasonable. Haven't used it yet.
