  • What’s the cancellation fee for this deal ?

    • +2

AFAIK it's going to be pro rata + voucher cancellation fee

      • +2

Early termination is the voucher repayment amount listed here https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…

FYI I've done this 4 times in the past 3 months now, and have successfully gotten the first month fee refunded each time. 3/4 was just given it when asked, 1/4 i had to fight for it a little.

        • Is it $800? So, it means $400 for free?

        • +1

What did you actually said to get it refunded? Did you got refunded talking to Telstra people correct?

        • Woooww !
How abouts did u go for it ?
Which number did u call and what did u exactly say as to why you wanna cancel ?
          Regards

          • @Stonecold3419: You download the JB mobile app and talk to someone through there. Cancel and ask for a refund in the same conversation.

You get asked why you want to cancel, and just make up a plausible reason. I.E Plan is too expensive/Too much data, I wont get through it. Can I get a refund for the first month, since i haven't even started it yet?

            • @mahdoo: Firstly thanks a lot mate for prompt reply ..
              Really Appreciate it mate.

              Just another query ..

Has it happened to you that they asked for $1200 refund instead of $800? How did ya tackle it?
And this $800 refund does it go from the card you used for sign up?

              Regards

              • @Stonecold3419: They dont ask for $1200. Only $766 and it will get billed to ehatever card you have when you signed up

                • @U30004: Ahhh Cheers !

So now the only issue is that we hope they don’t bill $1200 from the card !

                  Cheers

  • How much is the cancellation for this plan?

    • -3

PRO rata, this has been fixed 2 years ago. No more loopholes. So don't waste your time.

      • +7

Incorrect - the recent deals still have the loophole. Just need to pay the “normal” voucher fee and not the upsized voucher amount (aka during these promos)

        • +2

I think the "normal" voucher fee is we just pay back to teltra, the upsized one is just jb give away by its own, as long as it fulfilled the quota sale target for telstra? Jb is a big company so they don't really care

          • +3

@DraggyX: Correct - JB is co funding these promos and the consumer is only required to pay the normal voucher repayment fee

Not sure where OP got their info from when recent deals said otherwise

      • Whered u get that info?

        • Did last 2022, Asked to pay the whole $1100.

          • +2

@Fredfloresjr: Old news mate. The CIS was changed around that time too

          • @Fredfloresjr: You were on a different Telstra/JB plan. These terms changed early 2023 from memory. I’m on the same as you, it’s perfect for these deals. You go in and order a new service on your account and don’t pay the $99 up front. Immediately cancel through JB app and pay the $800 (approx), then pocket about $40 worth of Telstra points to sweeten the deal even more.

  • +4

    They’ve also got $1,650 off the Samsung phone range on a $99/mo Telstra plan with a $200-300 e-gift card via redemption on those phones. E.g. S24U base for $547 + $300 e-gift card on a $99/mo 24mo plan.

    • Link please?

      • +1

        https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/mobile-and-broadband-plans#be…

For e-gift card see the phone on their webpage.

        • +1

Sign up > Buy phone > Return phone within 30 days > Cancel plan = $1650 gift card for $785

Bonus points if you get the $300 e-gift card on top

          • @SirFrankGrimes: The TGG one has additional Ts and Cs (at bottom of plans page) that say you have to repay the full voucher:

(referred to as “The Good Guys Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions and replacing the dollar value of the Voucher in the Critical Information Summary)

If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term.

            • @bozzonac: The Voucher Repayment Fee is $800 pro rata ($767 in the first month)

              • @SirFrankGrimes: 6.3 The Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of
the base Voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months)
remaining in your Voucher Term. For example, if received a voucher with a 24-
                month Voucher Term, then in:
                (a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;

                • @DealsMonger: Yes, but the base voucher is $800, as specified in the critical information summary

              • @SirFrankGrimes: These are supplementary Ts and Cs mentioned at the bottom of the plans page, that state that the fee is modified due to this offer. So for the $1650 off offer, it's a $1650 base voucher, which is then $1,581.25.

            • @bozzonac: Yes the dollar voucher is the actual gift card value you’re given. The Voucher Repayment Fee is fixed as per critical information summary.

              • @Fancydancer: Meaning this doesn't work. Actually thinking to keep the phone not the plan.
Jbhifi have the similar 6.2 tnc.

    • so, this is a TGG plan but on the telstra network? My son wanted a new phone and his company pays for his mobile plan (pays him his cost), so this is a great deal for him….he can get the S24 for nothing

      • Yep on the Telstra network.

      • Just FYI you can choose the S24 256GB or $1650 off in the S24 range. Probably see if you can get the S24 512GB (costs $1600 - so should be free) or alternatively S24+ for $50 extra. Additionally you can get the $200 e-gift card on top of that via redemption.

  • It's a good deal if you can get 10 to 20 dollars off a month after speaking with the Telstra chat reps.

    • Not possible anymore, well I haven’t been able to get it done.

  • Was 1400 GC last Xmas

    • Yes nice $600 profit on that one ;)

  • Iphone 16 pro…..

  • Isn't 800$+ 99$ for the first month if you cancel the plan ?

    • +1

      Thats right

      • +1

        766 + 99

        • +1

And if you are persistent then they might waive off thr first month fees

          • @U30004: So if I got the flip6, $1797 - 1650 voucher, than cancelled the plan I'd pay 766 + 99 + 147?

            • +1

              @pin4e: Correct

            • @pin4e: @U30004
You next task is to then return the flip6 under the 30 days change of mind policy for a GC worth $1797.

So effectively $1012 for $1797 worth of voucher.

              • @Chinese: You can do that if you dont need the phone

          • @U30004: Or on an old JB Telstra plan where it’s not charged until billing date.

  • +1

I miss the 12month plan deals

    • +1

      We all do!
Don’t think they will ever be back with GC. Gone are the days.

    • These have been much more lucrative for some

  • +1

is this the Full Telstra network ? Are there any limitations on how the gift card can be used ? ( ie can buy new iPhone16? )

    • +1

      Whatever you want to buy

    • It’s full Telstra network

  • I'm on this deal from JB and it's ending next month. What's the best strategy to get another deal like this? I don't think they'll offer it to existing customers to re-up do they?

    • Buy a $2 SIM card from Optus. Port into that one then sign up to a “new” contract with TGG and port your number.

      • Used one of the profit Amaysim deals, but they seemed to have disappeared the last month.

      • don't we have to wait one month to join back?

        • Had my partner who finished an Optus plan, Port out to Telstra (happens nearly immediately) then an hour later go to Harvey Norman and sign up with a free Samsung Flip5 on a $69/mo 24mo plan on Optus again. Ported in and out on the same day.

  • -1

How would the math work on getting the new iPhone 16 Pro Max 256gb? What are the steps if trying to get it outright?

    • +2

      Sign up $99
      Buy iPhone $2149 - $1200 = $949
      Cancel plan $767

      = $1815 for a new iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB
      Or ~15.5% discount

      • Still crazy high

      • Hi sorry I'm new here, how is the $767 calculated? You don't need to pay back the $1200 voucher if cancel?

        • $800 is the max payback on voucher… not sure what the $767 is for?!

      • Thanks, called up JB. They confirmed this works.

        • The "$99 upfront plan" says
The $1200 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary

Do you mean the voucher repayment is based on 800 and not 1200 ?

          • @wad88: 800 is the final repayment

      • Sorry I am new to this. On the jbhifi page it says "Limit of 3 per customer".
Does this means I can do this 3 times to get 3 times the discounts?

        • Possibly

        • Nice pick up thx

    • it wont work for iphone 16.. deals expires 2 days before the 16 is out.. tough t!tt!es

      • +1

Am I missing something? Just get the voucher then use to buy iPhone 16 two days later

        • No it’s not you that’s missing something

          • +2

@Fancydancer: I feel like I was being gaslighted haha. Some real OzBargain noobs on here today

  • Same 5g speeds/coverage as if I was to sign up to a new plan direct with telstra?

    • +1

      yes

  • Gift card offer ends 18/9. iPhone not available in store until 20/9

    • Nevermind. Sign up to plan and use voucher 2 days later.

  • What’s the cheapest sim I can organise e-sim or otherwise to then transfer to Telstra?

    • +1

just sign up as new customer .. donk

  • $1200 seems like a good deal, I don't think it goes much higher than this?

    • +1

Not lately but $1400 November last year was the Bomb

  • Is this a good deal for anyone not intentionally wanting to cancel the plan?

    • No

  • Hi all, this is my first time doing this and I’m a little confused. I’m wanting to buy an iPhone 16 when they come out. Can someone explain to me how I can get the biggest voucher, happy to purchase another phone like Samsung and then return it if needed. Thanks
