It's marked as a freebie, I don't think the status match process is free.

There's a cost associated with this depending on which tier you are trying to match to:

Vietnam Airlines Lotusmiles Titanium US$99 (~A$145)
Vietnam Airlines Lotusmiles Gold US$159 (~$235)
Vietnam Airlines Lotusmiles Platinum US$299 (~A$440)

    • Thanks. I have no idea how this works. I have gold status with Velocity, and have a Vietnam Airlines flight next year. I guess I need to sign up with the Lotusmiles first? I might need to look into this a bit.

      • Not worth tbh if you’re not using Skyteam that much. It’s only one year where Ita Volares was free and elite plus was till 01-2026. Also I don’t think Gold gives you Elite Plus which you need to access lounge with Skyteam lounge.

  • Failed to mention it costs $99 to $299 per depending on the tier applied to. Arguably could also be marked as targeted as you need to have status on another airline to match.

  • It costs money

  • damn if only kenya airways flew to aus

  • Just had my Finnair Gold matched with SAS Eurobonus Gold (Elite Plus)
Fairly useless in Australia. Possble use on Garuda Indonesia flying to Bali with extra luggage and priority check in + lounge use (+ guest).

I think they might do it for Aussie airlines as well. Google SAS Status match…

  • When they status match, do you lose the status of the original airline? I don't know how you can, but maybe this is something they can do? I'm new to this.

    • You won't lose your original one, although with more than one elite status to maintain it ultimately means you'll probably end up losing one from not concentrating all your flying efforts on one program…

  • I think Air Canada’s Aeroplan is eligible too

  • A pity that barely any of them fly into australia
