Are you my Son in Law? Because I bought a Tamontina set with the 3 ply base 30 years ago. Still going strong almost no signs of ware. I can not reccomend this highly enough. Mine has a slightly diffeent handle, but I love just being able to chuck it in the oven. Do yourself a favour buy this set for a lifetime.

Well based on this comment/review & the fact it seems a good price, I bought a set…. here is hoping for same feedback from the other half!

Only a 20 and 24cm frypan though, think most households would need a 28/30cm? It's usually measured from end to end, and these seem to have rather large lips so flat area is likely to be quite small?

    Believe it's the set below.

    1x 20cm Frying Pan
    1x 24cm Frying Pan
1x 24cm Covered Deep Sauté Pan with Tempered Glass Lid
1x 1.4L Covered Sauce Pan with Tempered Glass Lid
1x 2.8L Covered Sauce Pan with Tempered Glass Lid
1x 5.6L Covered Sauce Pot with Tempered Glass Lid
1x Steamer (Fits 2.8L Sauce Pan)

For those in SA with a Harris Scarfe nearby, might also like to consider or compare this:

Avoid anything with a lining. Check out Teflon flu on YouTube etc
Should SS inside only. Or cast iron.

      • where do you see a lining?

        • +1

In the pics. There is a black lining on the pots. Not sure if picture of actual lining. Worth checking

  • Do the handles heat up to the point where you need mitts to move pans whilst cooking?

    • +2

The costco one has a non-stick coating, which many are now actively avoiding due to health concerns.

Cast Iron/Stainless Steel/Carbon Steel are alternatives.

Tramontina are a great value brand, i'd be buying this if it had a larger pan.

  • Where are these made?

  • Tried multiple orders, all showing cancelled! Tried credit and debit cards which is weird and used Onepass.

    • Wont let me put in my delivery address lol

Not tri-ply. Compare their "Sensuell" and similar for a more reasonable comparison.

      • Im guessing tri-ply is thicker=better?

        • +1

It's two stainless steel layers sandwiching an aluminium layer. The Alu layer is for better heat transfer.

      • +1

IKEA 365 pots are "Thick base with one layer of aluminium between two layers of stainless steel." The 365 frypan is "A layer of aluminium between two layers of stainless steel and a metallised coating that is equally thick across the base".

        Sounds like tri-ply to me.

    • Are the IKEA pots curved to allow easier pouring of water etc

  • Only thing I seem to currently do with my current Aldi non-stick one is fry eggs and occasional stir fry with lid on at both times and put water so the egg edges don't brown too much. It's "ceramic coating". Eggs stick. I clean it/scrape it with this soft sponge that has metal coating. It is holding up fine but I should just get a stainless lidded pan I am thinking.

Searching for a stainless fry or saute pan with lid. Googling at the moment.

If anyone has suggestions for a pan or my cooking technique I am open.

  • Always used non-stick but thinking about buying some stainless steel. From what I understand, non-stick for eggs and fish, stainless steel for everything else

I've got this on backorder which I think is a good entry pan and 30cm so quite versatile https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09GP6V3NF

I have two tramontina stainless steel frypans and we use them for everything including eggs.

Watch a YouTube video about the leidenfrost effect.

I used to hate stainless steel now nothing sticks and it's easy. Clean up is so easy, don't have to worry about scratching the non stick etc. Can use any utensil you want.

Excellent quality, but largest frypan is too small imo.

I was going to buy this set a few weeks ago for the same price, (seems to be on sale at catch often) but opted to go with just one 30cm stainless pan from Amazon by Merten and Storck for ~$66

    • How do you find that pan?

      • Sorry - I meant, what are your thoughts on the pan?

        • Apologies, I ordered it but hasn't shipped yet as is temporarily out of stock. I've used stainless pans before and it's important to get a decent one so there's little/no hotspots

It gets really good reviews and was posted on here a while back

I think this is the same set that is now price matched on Amazon.

    Looks like a decent set.
The Kirkland signature SS cookware with copper is arguably better value for only slightly more (the name brand versions can go for almost 10x as much).

    • Interesting - far better sized pans as well.

Showing as out of stock though for me.

      • +1

Yep that's the set to get when/if it comes back in stock.
