They are waiting each other to reduce the prices :)

You can currently get 10% off JB giftcards @ woolies tho

      • +1

So ~$1250 with 10% off and $30 perks voucher.
        Damnnnn

      • How those this work? I checked online @ woolies website and there wasn't any mentioning about 10% discount. Is it only applied at checkout?

EDIT: OK I found the answer here

        • Runs from Wed 28 Aug to Tue 3 Sep 2024.
        • Only available in-store at Woolworths.
        • You need to scan your Everyday Rewards card.
      • Appears the 'TCN Gift' cards, which are the only qualifying card to use at JB, only come in $100 max when you buy in-store. And only the first two giftcards you purchase a day will recieve the 10% discount. So the maximum discountable ammount is $200 a day.

It really sucks because other TCN varieties, like the 'Active' card for instance, have variable ammounts up to $500.

I got mine from JB a while back for this price. Best monitor I've ever owned. Playing Ori ATM and omg Soo pretty

    • Hows the text look?
I've got a AW3423DWF and the only downside is the text is a bit funky (you get used to it)

      • Much better than the 3423, as the DPI is higher and it's a Gen 3 panel v Gen 1 (or Gen 2 maybe?). I had the 3423 and liked it (being an UW) but the text fringing was just too much for me so I returned it to Dell and bought the 3225, and I don't regret it.

Note I have the 3225 scaled at 150% as I have pretty shit eyesight and it looks great. No fringing etc that I can see.

I've got a AW3423DWF and the only downside is the text is a bit funky (you get used to it)

I've genuinely tried to use one of these (similar, but last generation Alienware QD-OLED 34" 3440x1440 monitor), however, I've just found the downsides of OLED to be still quite significant.

The text (and general sharp line) fringing was a huge deal - I use my display mostly for work, with gaming as an important (but certainly secondary) use case, and it just didn't make sense for me to sacrifice the usability for what I actually mostly use the display for.

There are also several other inconveniences - OLEDs still don't get that bright, so usage in a bright room is still not the best compared to a top-tier IPS display.

The glossy finish, at least IMO, is still a bit of a trade-off that I think is a difficult sell for me.

FWIW, I think it's a fantastic monitor if your primary use-case is gaming and watching HDR content. Otherwise, you can get a top-tier, calibrated, professional-grade IPS display for this sort of money (e.g. a 32" 4K Dell Ultrasharp), which is just a more practical display for most people.

some Qs if you dont mind

      • do you run it at 4K 240hz all the time, does it look bad if you set it at 4K 120hz? I have a laptop GPU and if driven hard it sounds like a jet taking off
      • if you use it for gaming at FHD or QHD (so the monitor has to upscale) , how's the graphics quality, acceptable?
      • +2

Due to the fact I have a GTX1070 in my system, the most the card can do is 4k is 120HZ, and that's what I have it set to and it looks great.

For normal desktop usage (work/emails and content consumption) it runs fine with no issues. For games at 4K my card struggles with anything remotely new and max's out at around 30-60 FPS in most newer games at 4k. I can get 70 FPS in Borderlands 2 and a few other games at 4k and it looks fantastic even at those frame rates.

My wife has a laptop with a 4060 at 90HZ and it runs 4k at that with no issues and I try to use that as much as possible.

I have run some games at QHD and to my eyes it looks more than acceptable, and while there is some difference the OLED screen makes up for it in a lot of ways.

        Highly recommended.

      • Refresh rate wont affect static image quality.
        The upscaled graphics are acceptable.

I went to JB last week with a screenshot and link of the $1208 deal from July
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/858525

And they honored it and sent me a new link to purchase it for $1208.

    • +3

Wow that's the most Ozbargain thing I've seen all day. You're great

    • Definitely am pretty surprised by that - got lucky with the sales rep member I reckon!

    • +4

I just did this and it worked. They accepted the last deal's price of $1208

      Thanks for the idea.

      • Can you please share a screenshot? Thanks

        • +3

          Screenshot is here

    • Can you share the screenshot pls?

    • Share screenshot. i want to try this when I'm back home in couple weeks time

      • Can you also please share screenshot? Thanks! :)

      • Please share screenshots, thanks!

    • Tried getting online chat on jb to match it, they said no.
So guess is try in person.

    • I've tried this at the Belmont store with wrx5's screenshot. It didn't work out for me :(

Something something must be an active deal rather than expired deal which was lame.

but I still got it at $1424 though as I've been waiting for a while for this one.

Nice deal, but shame this doesn't have dual mode like some other 240hz 4k oled monitors

    • I thought I saw a side by side PIP mode.

      • +2

Might be referring to the 480hz at 1080p

  • waiting til it drops to 1.1k ish, need 3 of these bad boys

  • Does JB still have a 2 week price guarantee? Bought this last week for $1799.

Got a refurb unit of this from the Dell Outlet for $1219 and it's been fantastic!

    https://www.dell.com/en-au/outlet/refurbished-alienware-32-4…

    • +1

How'd you find it being a refurb? Any issues? What was the packaging like?

      • keen to hear about this as well?

      • I bought a refurb before from dell(different monitor though) packaging was pretty much brand new and included all the accessories

      • It was pretty much like new. No problems at all.

    • i would buy if it was 1000 we touched 1200 while being brand new, however as long as their is warranty I dont think there should be any noticeable difference between the refurb and this unit

  • +1

waiting for it under last deal $1208.

  • Grabbed one - thank you!

After countless tries with both online chat and over the phone, going in store worked out for me.
I was also fortunate enough to also have my $30 perks voucher applied even after the price match.
    $1178, done deal.

How'd you manage this? My local would not even entertain a discount.

      • I asked for a rep to help me, and I had wrx5's receipt saved in my camera roll and showed that.
This is the same store that told me no twice on the phone before I went it…
Some staff members may not be as helpful as others…

  • is burn in still a problem with these? i use my PC for uni and browsing 80% of the time and 20% for gaming

    • I can be, but realistically youll probably be fine. Autohide taskbar and wallpaper engine if you wanna be safe.

The good thing with Alienware though is it has a three year warranty that covers burn in.

  • is this overkill for WFH? I dont game and wont be watching content. Mainly productivity - webapps, spreadsheets, PDF etc.

Any alternatives curved recommended for WFH?

  • I managed to get the $1208 deal today instore using the receipt shared by wrx5, super happy, amazing monitor! The first store I tried would not budge at all. Went to another store and took and minute but happily did the deal. No luck at all using online chat twice,

    • +2

woww happy to see I was helpful :).

      • Was able to get a negotiated deal in store too, thanks!
Online chat was useless, offered like $15 discount off the price, lol; and they were so sure that $15 was enough to secure a sale :D
