  • Very tempting prices.

  • This deal is for the FTTB network running off Vision Network (not NBN) in selected locations.

Is that a good thing or bad thing?

    • It’s a thing.

    • +2

From my experience, it's a good thing.

Has been reliable, fast and cheaper vs my experience with being on the NBN in the same location.

      • Location means nothing. It depends on the type of NBN.

        • What I'm referring to is that I've had TPG FTTB (VDSL2+), NBN FTTB and Capti FTTB (G.fast) all at the same location (therefore a good test of the experience between them)… Vision Network (TPG FTTB/Capti G.fast) was the more reliable experience over NBN.

    no lock-in contract unlike TPG

Its funny because they're the same ISP

  • Just checked their NBN plans. Good to see they are up to their old tricks of new customers getting better deals than exisiting.

Hate having to churn every service in life now.

Can't speak for NBN plans, but as discussed in this forum post, for their VDSL plans you don't need to port out and back in. I am/was an existing VDSL2 customer and they happily signed me up to the VDSL Max last week and confirmed I will be getting $69.99 for the first 12 months.

Install done earlier this week but haven't had a chance to plug in and set up the new modem yet. Got 938/110 on Speedtest through a wired connection on my PC.

      • Should add I am about 50m from the node.

      • Can you actually upload that fast? I'm currently with them and they seem to have capped me to 120/42 or something on my older VDSL 2 plan. Is there any way to see what my max speeds would be without changing over?

I'm concerned I will lose the 40up (the new plans all list 25 up as the max?) as that's important for my work as I need to upload a lot of data to the cloud.

Be grateful that these deals exist. If not for the marketing budget to gain new customers, people who are willing to do the work would not have the opportunity to save.

If they offer these prices for everyone, they would not be able to make money or stay in business long.

  • If on the TPG plan, can you switch to iinet for the $20/month discount for the first 12 months?

    • I guess so? Can't see any reason why not.

  • I'm on this plan, and have to say it's way better than the FTTB plan I was on from Aussie BB, this is utilizing some kind of G.fast connection. Previously was only able to get 80mbs in our flat, now we're on 250 exactly through a hybrid copper connection which I didn't know was possible.

They'll need to send a technician out which takes roughly a week to install some kind of specialized router for this type of technology.

    • Whats the upload speed like?

  • Using this since a month now, very reliable and stable connection so far

  • Real shame they don't cover Opticomm areas like mine, I'd change instantly, currently with Superloop and their support is rubbish

    • from memory this is essentially their own fiber network that TPG built & the gov got upset about through pressure from NBN & is now a different entity but same same

  • A few years ago I subscribed to iiNet until the day I had to call the support and the operator asked me to check the modem password, then he immediately proceeded by spelling my password back to me. That's the password I selected and never told anyone! It happens that iiNet not just stores it in plain text but also promptly give it away.

I then cancelled the service and I will never consider them again.

    • Every telco can do that because it’s a branded modem. Most people use the modem in bridge mode and have a seperate mesh router system so it’s not really an issue.

    • most passwords for TPG & iinet are a form of 'nopassword'

  • Not applicable in Opticomm serviced areas.

  • Is there a coverage map somewhere to see areas where FTTB is offered?

    • I don't know that there is, best to type your address in TPG/iiNet's website and see what is available. If a Vision Network DSLAM is installed in your building, it will tell you this is available.

  • Try this if you are an existing iinet customer!

I am an existing iinet Customer on a prehistoric FTTB plan.
Called up their Sales team(13 19 17) and got them to change my plan to this new FTTB250 plan with the $20 discount offer for 12 months.
Essentially paying less for a higher speed now.

  • Just signed up. And now the wait. I presume once this is up and running I then cancel my NBN plan via ABB ?

    • Yep, however some providers have a 30-day clause so may be worth looking into it so you don't get double charged?
