Hi, lowest I've seen for this printer.
Got Officeworks to beat the price (took awhile for them to verify because there office choice and select office choice (don't know the difference, neither could officeworks). Mate was nice enough to honour the price beat.

  • Good price, got it from last Amazon deal for $268 and pretty happy with it. ymmv I don't do a lot of printing, just occasionally; but I do scan a lot and love the duplex direct to computer scanning with auto sensing.

I don't do a lot of printing, just occasionally

Just don't update your Brother printer firmwares.
The later updates, block access to generic toners.

      • What is the alternative brand? I've got the 3770cdw and want to throw it in the bin due to toner bs. Can't even force print in b&w because of stupid colour bs

        • You should be able to with some googling downgrade the firmware back to the previous version. I did it to the work one a few months back

I made a mistake several years ago, bought a workgroup expensive colour Brother printer for home, it was used occasionally but as years passed it was like disintegrating itself, then decided to buy a HP one, it was not that sturdy (as they used to be) but has survived the pass of time and it takes compatible toner cartridges

          • @scuadrosm: I did a quick Reddit search and hp seems to be going down this path too, must be the newer printers

            https://www.reddit.com/r/printers/s/cnF2VZTQ8o

I'll probably bite the bullet and buy legit then rip the chips out and put them back into my existing cartridges, I would've thought a battery replacement would've worked but it didn't (I should check their voltages)

          • @scuadrosm: Yeah same, I recently threw out the 9330cdw because it kept losing print jobs and being a general pain to print on.
Bought an ecotank 5150, it's been so much better.

        Thats terrible.

      • Any way to tell if a new printer comes with a "genuine toner denied" firmware?

      • +1

So Brother is pulling an HP now 🙁

      • +2

Can someone mention the exact firmware we're trying to stick to?
Asking so I can check what version I'm on.

        • I would like to know this too. But I understand 3rd party toner availability is an evolving industry so if you don't need toners frequently and if you stop updating firmware even now, by the time you need a toner, 3rd party toners will have caught up to suit your current firmware.

No need to hold it yourself while it does printing or scanning. Perfectly fine to leave it on a normal table.

      • -2

        😲

    • I got the 20kg colour one 🏋🏼

      • -1

        That’s not a genuine Brother

        • more like a sister. or a cousin

        • Something something, paper jam, step-bro.

    • +6

He ain't heavy. He's my brother.

the full duplexing is what sets this apart

we have a few of the base base fuji xerox mfds but they dont duplex print or duplex scan and they are a pain

we have a lot of these spec and they a good base unit

    • Can you explain to me what duplex is and why it's useful or worth paying for? (idk)

      • It's in the description.

Automatic 2-sided printing & scanning (duplex)

Having an MFD that can print and scan both sides of the paper saves paper and makes printing and scanning a lot faster if you work with a lot of documents.

      • It means you can PRINT on both sides of a page automatically and you can SCAN both sides of a document automatically. Otherwise you have to manually flip over the page which is a pain if you are dealing with 50 pages.

I have the previous very similar L2750DW model.
Low usage, but when we use it, works very well

  • if using a Mac, can you go File > Print or do you need the iBrother app and can only print PDF / photo file types ?
I recently bought the DCP-L2640DW and I have to save everything as a PDF and manually print … frustrating.

    • +1

i have the L2750DW and it doesnt need to do the two step process. it does show up on file > print.

maybe try going to system settings > Printer & Scanners. then add the printer? (assuming is turned on and connected)

The generic toner available but cost around $67 for the high yield toner for this model.

Need to mass produce generic to hit the $20 price point

    • The generic toner available

The generic toners do not work "anymore" with Brother firmware updates.

I have the older L2750DW and the L2730DW , and both of them 'somehow' got the later firmware updates,
and the generic toners (with chips) are working now.

Only genuine toner cartridges work :-\

I don't know how to solve this problem, because downgrading the firmware requires the older firmware files and I haven't been able to find them.

      • Are you connected to their computer software? Perhaps it did auto update when it detects

        • It's auto update even with auto update off imo., so dodgy

          • @Kammi: I don't think so, but then again, I'm not surprised nowadays with anything.

I mean, if you use Chrome browser, … unless you switch off the 'flags', Chrome will also Auto-Update itself.

        • I don't have 'auto update' on.

However, I wonder if me or whoever uses the printers, accidentally pressed "Update" to update the printers, haha

      • Wondering if it was possible to find someone with the old printer+firmware, if it's possible to make a copy of it with some third-party program?

        • possible to find someone with the old printer+firmware

Why do you think, I was looking for old printers in Gumtree,
and then buying them, just to try these out…but then finding out, the seller also didn't know they got "firmware updated", ha.
They just didn't know because they were using genuine toners.

      • the generic toners (with chips) are working now.

CORRECTION: generic toners are NOT working now, after firmware update.

"That doesn't work for me Brother"

Got one of these from scroptec four months ago for $267.

A reminder to everyone: Do not update the firmware of the printer.

    • A reminder to everyone: Do not update the firmware of the printer.

      Ditto.

Love the L2750DW i got a year or two ago.. a 3000page cartridge is only like $10. Hope my printer never updates its firmware

    • +2

Ive blocked mine as a client within my adguard home setup, and also blocked the brother.com dns just to be double'y sure :)

      • cool.. i have to figure out how to do that.. i currently have Brother Utilities and BrotheriPrint&iScan installed

        • If you have a Windows machine, you could try Windows Firewall, and block the brother.com URL

      • +1

Good idea, would that work against the phone app too?

        • +1

I guess if you blocked the url in your dns to all devices.
I dont see it doing any update via the app without me explicitly telling it to update

  • does anyone know how fast it could scan? Thanks.

  • +3

For the L2750DW if you have the firmware updated you need to buy a new generic toner with the new updated chip to work with the new firmware. I had the problem in 2019 and then I got a new toner with the latest chip and it started to work again

    • Thanks for this tip.
I'll look for a new generic toner then.

  • how much is the toner for this bad boy can someone link, this looks to be what ive been after, a laser printer with duplex scanning and cheap ink

  • Can someone please tell us what firmware version does the printer come with, what version works with generic toner and what version doesn't? Thanks!
