  • Seems like decent value

      nah Android 11…

      • What's wrong with Android 11 on a budget tablet?

        • +2

Too old some newer apps may not install.

Not to mention the lack of security updates.

          • -1

            @xoom: Thanks.

          • +6

            @xoom: I don't know of a single app that won't install on Android 11

            • +2

@ldd-mn: I just reckon for future proofing reasons it's not worth it at that price point

Maybe if it was $150 or less?

              • @AndrewMTG: Oh yeah I wouldn't buy this either.

                • -1

@ldd-mn: was editing my comment to include:

                  Support status
Unsupported as of February 5, 2024[3]

                  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_(operating_system)

                  • "Did not receive March 2024 Security Update"

Therefore it's no longer being supported*

  • +1

Not much of a deal given the OS is outdated as we are on Android 14. It's unlikely there be any update or support from my experience with TCL.

    • +2

Just curious on why you negged this deal, to me it looks like the specs are good for the asking price. There are tablets going around with slower CPUs and half the RAM for higher price. If I was looking for a tablet for general media consumption and light gaming, this looks like a great value proposition to me.

I'm interested to know if you would be happy with a slow tablet with 2GB RAM for this same price because it had some updates on it? Wouldn't a better day to day usage experience be worth more.

      • +2

I would argue the lack of support from TCL to update the tablet is the biggest issue, the specs could easily run later version of android, its a shame because like you said the specs are actually really good for the price

      • Starting to think a clarification on voting guidelines would be good.
Maybe just me but seems there are lot more negs due to subjective complaints now.

      • 2 year old tablet but still pretty decent.

  • if you have this plugged in 24/7 can you use it or will it cause issues with the battery?

  • +8

Not going to neg, but I have to agree with @ranma241 that this tablet is a poor deal overall, but not just because of outdated Android. Truth is, if you're willing to spend even just a little bit more money, there are far better options out there.

The Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2023 for example (many OzBargain deals in the past with long comment chains discussing it in great detail), I bought Aug 1st during the monthly AliExpress Choice sales for US$192.63/AU$295.81, has these better specs off the top of my head:

    • 8G RAM
    • Snapdragon 870
    • 12.7" IPS 60/120/144hz display
    • Android 13

The SD870 alone obliterates the SD665 in OP's tablet, especially GPU performance. The better display and other specs are just icing on the cake, but they also add up to a much better tablet experience. I think it's worth the extra ~$78.

It really is a good tablet. Buttery smooth. Great screen. Might be a bit big for some though.

Hey mate, been researching tablets for the past few weeks. Hadn't come across the Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2023 but looking at the specs and price it seems amazing value! Can you share which AliExpress site you got yours from?

      • This is the exact listing I bought from (the seller was Lenovo Global Smart Online Store). The 256G model is currently sold out, so I'd suggest either waiting for more stock, waiting for a new OzBargain deal to be posted, or picking a similar listing yourself if you're familiar enough with AliExpress. Just make sure it's the "China ROM" model, not the "Global ROM" model (previously posted deals explain why in detail, I would suggest reading up on it before buying).

As for the price, IIRC I think I added it to my cart from the "SuperDeals" section on the AliExpress home page. It included an extra discount that was stackable with the typical site-wide coupons, and a bunch of coins I had accumulated, so my order ended up looking like this.

        Hope that helps.

        • Thanks mate, I've been reading through the comments on the earlier Ozbargain posts.
So from what I can't tell with the china Rom, I can install the Google play store and apps. And Should be able to run Netflix with no issues. The chia rom will have L1 support?

I think $298 aud is about the cheapest I can find. But I'll check out your link.

Was looking at the Xiaomi pad 6 but this one looks to have all those specs in a larger size, and at a cheaper price..

          • +1

@Necrosis: I don't use Netflix, so I'm not sure about L1. But if other people say it's working, I believe them.

I can however confirm I got Google Play working perfectly, including Play Protect Certification. To do so, I sideloaded these 3 APKs from APKMirror:

Then restarted the tablet, signed into Google, and it was good to go.

          • @Necrosis: I've been negotiating with AliExpress to have the Xiaoxin back to the cheaper prices next month. It's proven to be popular in this sale for a higher price so they're more likely to reduce it again.

  • Warranty 1 Month?

  • +1

Tcl have a bad rep for lack of any updates

  • Can you not root the tablet and install the latest os?
