I'd spend $30 more and buy a moto G04 at the bare minimum. at least you know what you're getting.

    • +3

Yep I have a feeling this isn't going to be very popular when the phone nerds log in.

      • +1

        What about the WatchNerds?

        • What time do they show their hands?

        • Neeeeeerrrrrd !

        • +2

Well the website title still says it has 8GB RAM which isn't true. A mod actually fixed the title here so I'm going to neg as well because it's misleading on the website.

          What about the illuminations?

  • +2

Even if let's assume it's a half decent phone, here at OZB we don't pay the RRP

    • +3

Let's not assume when we can look up the specs and confirm that it's a potato.

      Chipset: 9863A

      • Went looking, surprising the number of phones using this chipset

      • +3

Found the chipset here, 2018 chip, I sincerely hope no one considers this

        • +1

For $99 its a steal if you want to get the kids a phone for to and from school

          • @BatmanAU: No way.

You should go for something cheap, like a Telstra T Line phone.

            https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/pre…

            • @MasterScythe: I purchased a cheap Telstra phone once, never ever again, was absolute rubbish. This may be too, but personally I would rather give that a go than Telstra crap

              • +2

@BatmanAU: ZTE is a massive manufacturer with a long, fairly positive record.

Im not going to argue that you didnt get a dud, but having a single purchase experience turn you from a globally recognised brand to a 'no-name' china phone is an uncommon stance to take.

          • @BatmanAU: It’s a steal alright , they saw you coming.

      • +1

        lets look a little deeper

announced on November 27, 2018, and is manufactured using a 28-nanometer process technology.

        Unisocs first LTE SoC

im perfectly happy with unisoc in my portable handheld emulator consoles.. but yeah nah

      • +1

        28nm?? lol

    • I read it as the wireless buds were $99 RRP

    • It's a very good price , it's a special offer for launch , here is an example of the same phone but with a lower memory config but it's selling for $179 , so at $99 the LOGIC L66M is a BARGAIN !

      https://www.bigw.com.au/product/aspera-nitro-2-3gb-64gb-blac…

      • If that is your benchmark then its totally hopeless

  • +1

I'm almost tempted just because I wonder how bad it could be for $99

  • +1

Moto G54 for $39 from targeted Amaysim promo code is the new OzB benchmark for budget phones.

  • +8

    8gb is not the real RAM. It's 4 + 4gb virtual

    • +3

Yeah but I can always download more RAM isn’t it ?

  • +5

Even trying to pass off vram as ram, in 2024, deserves the maximum amount of disrespect possible. It is an outright lie that likely amounts to deception under Australian consumer law.

    • -5

Hi Ademos , thank you for the comment , it is 4 + 4 GB RAM with a total of 8GB , this can be defined i the settings by the user , this type of memory config is becoming more popular with various brands .

      • +2

No. There is not 8GB RAM. Does not matter how hard you try to mislead customers, "virtual ram"(basically a swap partition) is not a RAM and never will be.

Correct statement: There is 4GB RAM and 4GB swap partition.

      • This is an outright lie.

  • +2

    128GB of Read Only Memory?
So relying on MicroSD for storage? That's going to be slow…
Also, a Unisoc SC9863A? Thats going to be Woeful too.
While I can totally aknowledge that $99 is one hell of a price point to have been able to hit, it wasn't worth those sacrifices.

For an extra $60 or $70 (which, I admit, is like 70% or more of the cost)
You can get a TCL 505, or a Motorola G04, which at the very least have parent companies with a track record of warranty service and software support of some level.

Would it surprise you to know that plenty of people get by quite easily with 64GB of ROM - let alone 128GB.

I've probably owned 20+ phones in my life, and I can't remember using near 64GB in any of them.

      • That wouldnt surprise me at all.

The read-only memory part of a phone can be pretty small, it only needs to hold the base OS image and bootloader.

I think you're thinking of storage size; not the Read Only Memory; your example is Writable.

Running the all new SmapDragoon processor.

    • +1

      Worse, it's a Unisoc SC9863A…..

This will be in the top 10 most unpopular deals chart this year.

    • +2

Please tell me there is a chart. I want this.

  • +1

Bargain, for $99 you can hand over all your personal data.

  • Supports volte?

    • Yes , it supports VoLTE !!!

  • While Stocks Last

    Is this still available?

    • +1

Just checked; you can add up to 55 to your cart at time of posting; so yep.

      • +1

        Bought 54👍

        2.4ghz wireless n …collectors iten

    • Yes , available in Two colours

  • It's jank phone

  • IPS on a mobile phone in 2024 should be an instant no-go, also 6.6 inch display and only 720p resolution 😂 THIS IS E-WASTE

  • +1

Rep posted a misleading deal claiming it was 8gb ram and doubled down on this. This is a junk phone.

Glad mods fixed the deal title and OP. Doesn't excuse the fact that the reps own store continues to mislead people with its title, with the fact this has 4gb VRAM buried in the webpage. Terrible.

A good, old-fashioned OzB pile-on for what appears to be a cheap, perfectly adequate phone for those with basic needs eg phone calls, messaging, WhatsApp, social media etc.

I would be very surprised if many people looking for such a phone would care about the date or manufacturing process of the chipset, or whether the RAM was 8, or 4+4. And if they were, they would look further at the specs to confirm the +4 was VRAM.

Not everyone needs an iPhone 15 or Samsung S24. A lot of people are just looking for a phone that will just get them past the 3G shutdown.

    • Oh good, the comment and voting police have arrived…

It's not a "good 'ole OzB pile on…" It is people pointing out that this phone is a piece of shit and the rep is lying about the amount of RAM it has.

      • -4

        Followed by the projection police.

(Sorry - I CBF looking for a childish meme).
