All flavours are naturally sweetened. We have transitioned over to thaumatin for the fact that it is an all natural plant based sweetener, a superior flavour profile, a neutral insulin impact (as it is a protein) and being very gentle on the gut. A bit of trivia, thaumatin is about 10x the cost of artificial counterparts (eg. sucralose) and more than 5x the cost of stevia based on weight! Our focus remains on product quality.

To help guide, here are the category descriptions from the table above:

Category **Description **
STRAIGHT Unflavoured and optimised for macronutrients (90% protein). Due to omitting flavours and any sweetener, this is just straight WPI from the manufacturer (less than 1% sunflower lecithin added at the point of manufacture). Use in cookies, smoothies etc. Or if you just want the best macros and don't care for taste!
CORE These flavours have between 75-87% protein. They will also be low in fat (0.3-0.8g/serve) and also low in carbs (1-3.7g/serve). As a general guide, suitable if you have strict dietary restrictions and want to keep the carbs/fat down, but want something more exciting than unflavoured.
INDULGE These flavours will have 64-68% protein with a higher serving size. Notably, carbs will be a bit higher in these flavours (6.8-9.9g/serve) and the cookie flavours will have around 1g extra fat/serve - which contributes to an extra 20-30 calories per serve. This extra latitude with macros and ingredients allows us to elevate the flavour to be what we consider amazing, while not being a complete cheat meal. Given the popularity of Aussie Choc Malt, we're experimenting with a few others in this category and have recently released our two new cookie flavours.

  • 100% Australian Blended and Packed in our Sydney Facility
  • Our manufacturing facility is owned by us and is a NSW Licensed Food Facility with an approved Dairy Processing license
  • We only use WPI in this protein - this is not a blend of other cheaper proteins (for example Whey Protein Concentrate/WPC)
  • Protein used is added hormone free, ultra and micro filtered and cold pressed
  • Naturally sweetened with thaumatin. We do not use artificial sweeteners.
  • Soy free - we use sunflower lecithin instead of soy lecithin (soy is common in whey proteins)

In almost all of our prior WPI deals, I have been asked how our WPI compares to two other very popular products on OzBargain that we sell (Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey and Musashi 100% Whey).

Whey Protein Prices in 2024

Whey pricing is something I have been making mention of in our prior posts, more as a heads up about a possible increase in retail prices. Anyway, we have now seen this transpire across several brands.

In summary, prices have gone up at the supplier level over nine months ago and we have now seen price increases across the board. We did raise our prices in July as a result of this.

Full transparency; this deal has also increased because we can no longer sustain the lower price point. It’s up by $2.50/kg (for 4kg, same credit) and we have kept the optional 5th kg at the same price but with reduced credit. This is the first price increase we’ve had on these deals since the end of 2022. Despite this, I do hope that this continues to represent great value.

  • What are Z Points? Z Points are the same as store credit. Your account is credited and you can use this as a discount on any future order with us.

    Which flavour do you recommend that’s has the least or zero amount of sugar? (Apart from unflavoured)

    Also are these good for use in cooking/ baking as well?

      In terms of sugar, the flavours with the lowest sugar % will be Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream, Vanilla Creamy, Banana, Coconut Ice Cream and Mint Choc Chip (all are 1.4% or lower, and 0.4-0.5g/serve of sugar). The sugar component is almost all lactose in these flavours, so it's only slightly off unflavoured.

      For baking, generally the Vegan Protein or the Casein Protein will be better suited as these will hold moisture a little better than our WPI. Both will be 30% off with this code.

          Hi @YoursTruly, that's correct especially in these flavours.

          Lactose will be 1.2% of the product as a maximum and is from the WPI itself. The flavouring may contain small amounts of sugar. For example with these flavours, there it will be about 0.2% sugar from the flavour, which in a 32g serve is ~0.06g - ie. pretty negligible.

          None of our flavours have sugar added in as a separate ingredient. I must however note that in our three "INDULGE" flavours, sugar is higher due to the additional ingredients we add in. Aussie Choc Malt has malt, while the new cookie flavours have actual cookie crumbs (which will contain some added sugar). This won't be the case in the "CORE" range.

          I hope this provides some more clarity around this.

    Hi,
    For some reason I am unable to select the option to use Z points to pay for the 5kg option, I've done all the steps leading up to the checkout and when I click on load payment options it only comes up with the normal card, afterpay and bank transfer options.       I can confirm that this has been an update as part of our process @nomoneynoproblems

      We had a number of complaints about the powders clumping together, so we updated the way in which we blend our powders to yield a finer final texture. This was done earlier this year.

      I will take note on this feedback however. And if anyone else has similar concerns please share as this will be helpful for me to take to the team.

      We did put through a price update on the website and subsequently on this deal too by $10 as you mentioned. We have been hit by increased commodity prices over the past eight months or so and the lower price point just wasn't going to be feasible for us with such slim margins. The major culprit has been in the material cost of WPI which has seen a very sharp increase since last year. We have now seen a number of price adjustments across a number of brands as a result of this.

      I greatly appreciate the ongoing support and we will be doing everything we can to keep our prices as low as feasible.

      So yes, ours will contain BCAA's as part of the protein itself, as WPI will inherently contain BCAA's. We don't add in additional BCAA's, but do note that most brands do not add in additional BCAA's.

      BCAA's are amino acids and amino acids are the building blocks of protein.

      Below is the amino acid profile per 100g of protein (unflavoured):

      Arginine: 2200mg

      Aspartic Acid: 12100mg

      Cysteine: 2400mg

      Glutamic Acid: 19200mg

      Glycine: 1700mg

      Also in terms of the source of protein, we are currently using protein sourced from USA.

      @enkidu79 we don't have anything completely lactose free, but all flavours, including Unflavoured are low lactose (1.2g/100g).

    Lots of information about the protein but can you tell us more about the flavours you use? They taste awesome but where are they coming from, how are they made, have they been tested?
    If I take a simple flavour like strawberry for example, is it all artificial or is it based off real strawberries?

      So our flavours will come from flavour houses based either in USA or Australia. The flavours will generally be spray dried flavours. Many of the flavours will be derived from the actual food itself.

      There is a lot of grey area in the legislation as to what constitutes "natural" flavouring, so we don't make any claims in relation to what is and isn't natural with our flavour components.

      In addition to the flavours we add, we do have other ingredients that contribute to the flavour profile which are not done in a lab. For example, cocoa is used in all our chocolates, matcha is used in our matcha green tea, coffee is used in our iced coffee etc.

      I hope this provides some insight here.

    Not too huge on the Taro, Melon Milk, Banana or Iced Coffee so far as they get sickening quick for me

      No plans to discontinue the Neapolitan and I'll share this feedback with the team.

      If you like those, a couple of the newer ones - Cookies & Cream and Brazilian Chocolate might be worth giving a shot. Cookies & Cream actually tastes like the name. The Brazilian Chocolate is similar to the smooth milk or our regular chocolate, but more with a caramelised condensed milk undertone.

      I think it's pretty unlikely in the next 6 months at least.

      We will generally secure stock around 6 months in advance at a particular price, so we will have some idea of how retail prices will move once that stock arrives into the country and is manufactured into product for sale. But beyond that, it's a little hard because obviously anything could happen to impact commodity prices and our dollar.

      I hope this at least provides some transparency here.

      The price per unit before Z Points will remain the same for 5kg and higher (ie. $38/kg). But the Z Points will be capped at the 5kg amount for this particular deal.

    I note that the 5kg deal with cashback comes out slightly more expensive per kg than the 4kg. Is this intentional? In previous deals the 5kg was slightly cheaper per kg.

      @dijitr I guess this will be the case with Club Z because of the bonus Z Points awarded here, but won't be the case with the other categories.

      I guess this was a bit of an oversight and so we will make an adjustment for Club Z on this matter to be $7 back in store credit for the 5th kg (up from $5).

      I'm sorry to say that we don't currently have the Chocolate Coconut available for sampling. We are working on expanding our sample flavour range, but it has been challenging with the variety of flavours we now have available.

    You should fix your system so the bonus Z points are more accurate.

    My last order with the July special was "Spend $300+ (after any discounts) to get $65 back as Z Points" I spent $350 and received only 6500 points, whereas if I had ordered $300 in a single order and $50 in another, it would have been 6650 points. It's a minor thing but slightly annoying.

      We do plan on doing a Black Friday promotion, but the particulars are not yet confirmed.

      WPI may be involved (as we have done in prior years), but this is dependent upon a few factors. They key one will be around adequate supply of raw materials, as we cannot run a large-scale promotion if we don't have a very significant amount of stock available. While this is likely the case, unforeseen circumstances can always arise and so I cannot definitely confirm that WPI will be the focus.

      Anyway, I hope this provides some insight here. Sorry I cannot provide any definites around this.

    I highly recommend the melon milk for anyone looking for a new flavour. Its so light and tasty. Blend it with woolies summer fruit mix and some ice and you got yourself a great protein smoothie.

    I still have dreams of the mango sorbet flavour… please come back :(

          We did switch over to thaumatin a while back now, so if you were previously having the old stevia version perhaps this may be better @m0tyrider

          The cookies and cream is not excessively sweet, but it is on the sweeter side. It's our new release and so far is one of the top sellers for this promotion.

          Aussie Choc Malt is one of our top selling flavours, it tastes like a choc malt drink.

    I've recently tried the choc mint flavour - it is SO TASTY, like drinking a chocolate choc mint slice. However, it isn't great at dissolving.

    Also going on the coconut cream - not such a fan. Taste is pretty good but it seems to have lots of surface tension and is bad at dissolving - sometimes I end up with a large mouthful of dry powder.

    Just some feedback: I'm on my third order now, with my first order in January 2024, where I ordered 1kg of WPI Indulgent White Chocolate. It was one of the best I've ever tasted, and I've been using whey for the past 20 years. I ordered another bag in my next order in February. All of these tasted great. So great in fact that I ordered 4 x 1kg Indulgent White in May

    I'm currently using the whey I bought in May and have noticed the taste has changed a fair bit - so much so that I can barely taste a scoop in my oats, whereas previously it was a strong and great flavour. Not sure if there's been a change in ingredients or recipe - or could be this one bag itself - but thought I'd share
