Google Pixel 8 5G - Obsidian 8/128GB - $737.10 Delivered @ Mobileciti

460
APDAY10

Looks like a good price for the base version Pixel 8 shipped.

Better prices on past deals with trade in I believe, but for those with an untradeable phone/missed those deals this seems pretty good.

Could get Officeworks price match on base price without coupon

Original coupon deal post

I'm after 2 pixel phones for about this price. I'm in no rush and hoping a better deal pops up between now and the 3g shutdown.

    • Why 2?

      • It's for my inlaws, their old xiaomi phones will no longer work come the 3g shutdown

        • +3

          From a 3g phone to a pixel 8???

          • @U30004: Yea.. ?

            • @PR0r: You could get this for free.

            • @PR0r: I'd go a cheap oppo at around $300. They are great for the oldies.

          • -3

@U30004: Not necessarily a 3g phone. Telstra operates their voLTE with a whitelist, even phones that support voLTE and all Australian 4g bands don't work on Telstra or any of their wholesale network if they don't want it to

            • +2

@OZKap: This is factually incorrect, there is a whirlpool forum on this where 2 telstra employees prove this incorrect.

In short, imported devices won’t have the telstra carrier profile for volte, and since vodafone and optus (singtel) have a major international presence their profiles are more likely to be loaded

              • @Quarter Pounder: Is there a way to load the profile? I have a Xiaomi 11T that connects to 5G but I can't get VoLTE to work

              • @Quarter Pounder: Or in other words, Telstra (and other Australian telcos) don't support the volte profile for many phones, so blocks them. Volte works fine on my Poco F3 if I disable carrier volte checking using ##volte## in the dialer. There is a whitelist for phones they support and if you're not on it, you'll be bombarded with messages to get a new one, even if yours works. It's easier and cheaper than checking and catering to all phones - for the telcos, that is.

                • +3

@sepa: @sepa no, that is not correct. The carrier check you are disabling is the handsets check to only work on carriers that the manufacturer has tested and approved, not the other way around. It is the device manufacturers who largely control which networks they allow and don't allow volte on.

        • You hate them, right?

      Thanks for sharing

    • Better get Pixel 9 series 9 via this deal. Pixel 9 in almost same price after cancellation and factoring in the gift card you will receive with the phone.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/861465

    • Pixel 8A $349 same but slightly worse camera

      • Do you mean the Pixel 7a?

        • nah 8a

every year when the pixel A's come out JB have this promo you trade in something (people just don't end up sending in the trade and still get the trade in bonus + gift card)

          like this

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/844795

ends up to be $349…. been similar with 6a and 7a too. So cheap for a decent phone.

it's like one of the best deals out there

once it's over it goes back up to full price

          • @Poor Ass: What a great deal, unfortunately it's already over though

            • @PR0r: yeah mate once a year opportunity

              maybe next year?

              • @Poor Ass: Yea definitely, thanks for the early heads-up πŸ˜…

                • @PR0r: do you like that Persian place at broady and surfers?

what's awesome to eat in the gold coast?

                  • @Poor Ass: the persian place isnt too bad, i dont really eat out enough to be honest. maccas is usually where i end up :P

Personally i wouldn't consider this a good price for a last gen phone with only 128gb.

This should be $499 at best.

    • +1

You're deluded. The base model Pixel 7 is still priced at $999 at JB. Telstra is still selling the Pixel 6 at $599.

      • You had a point but the pixel 7 price was non-sale. No one would buy at that price

Pixel 7 is $699 at mobicity, much less at kogan (maybe grey import?)

      • +4

Pixel 6 for $599 is a joke, its an alright phone but its not $600.

I'd probably say it's a good $400 phone that goes on sale for $300-$350.

Pixel 7 is like $600 and pixel 8 is $800.

These aren't anything special in terms of phones.

    • +1

I somewhat agree, I'm hoping to get this for that price soon πŸ™

I almost pulled the trigger in buying google pixel 8a from here, and then read some reviews about the seller. Quite shocking, no way I will be take the chance!!

  • +4

I've just upgraded from Pixel 7 Pro to a Pixel 8 Pro just a few weeks ago. While I love the Pixel phones, the resale/trade-in prices for these (compared to iPhones for eg.) are quite sad.
If anyone's upgrading to a Pixel 9, Google Store actually has a decent (boosted) trade-in offers now (https://store.google.com/collection/offers?hl=en-GB)

    • You should see Samsung's crazy trade ins. You don't even need to send the phone back to get credit

      • Aggressive! πŸ˜†

      • Nor do you at JB.

    • +1

I'm keen to buy a Pixel 8 Pro now that the 9 is released. Looking for 256GB. What's a decent price to wait for it to be on special?

      • +2

$850 ish would be a great deal I reckon.

    • +1

Does anyone find it strange that the estimated trade in value is different when selecting a different new phone?

      e.g. For the P9 Pro Fold, trading in pixel 5 = $250 vs For P9 Pro, trading in P5 = $200

  • +8

Who remembers when Google phones offered good value

    • I remember Google Nexus 2 made by Samsung. Great phone for the price.

    • +1

premium prices, mid range specs, low end qa/qc

  • It was the same price for the P8P from JBhifi a few months ago with the reduced price and $300 trade in coupon.

    • I actually traded up from a P7P to a P8P while making a profit during one of the JB trade deals. Didn't send the P7P in and sold it myself. They never charged the trade in back to my card.

  • recon price will go lower in the next months leading to pixel 9 release?

thinking of buying this then selling my pixel 7 on ebay/fb seems better than trying to do a trade in deal

    • I saw Pixel 9 Pro and Fold on Display at Forest Hill,VIC JB couple of days ago. But only available to pre order.

  • +1

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/861465

BG's deal is better if you can find use of $250 JB hifi credit.
Costs $865 for the pixel 9 and receive a $250 JB gc

  • Is there anywhere I can trade a Pixel 6 in with the rear glass cracked or is that never possible with any of them? Ie, better off selling it on eBay, thoughts?
No interest in a phone contract, just outright.

    • You're going to get a lot less for it, better to just sell on eBay.

  • I want the Pro for this price :)

  • -3

    Pixel 8 is too small.

    • +4

That's subjective, I prefer the base size model as I don't want to carry around a large device. Just a personal preference.

      • +1

Yeah even Pixel 4a's small 5.8" screen feels clunky in my pocket. 6.2" seems like the smallest available now.

  • Hodling my S21 ultra πŸ˜…

  • Best phone for running Showcase.apk

  • Poco X6 Pro $450, there are better deals around.

  • Code "APDAY10" does not seem to work. It is coming up with "The coupon code isn't valid. Verify the code and try again.". So without coupon code the price is $819.00
