So I just clicked the first item that popped up. Assumed it would be all silicon items, however it states PLA? So I assume you’re 3d printing this stuff?

Have you done some testing to determine food safety etc? I assume there is significant food safety risks given you’re using products like egg, and would be unable to properly clean the cutters due to the low temperature requirements of PLA (and also the general concerns regarding bacteria and how accessible the cutters would be to this).

Not trying to bash a small business, but yeah this has always been a concern of mine using 3d printed items around food. Not to mention the concerns around what companies are using within their PLA, given the rise of all these new types of PLA. Do you provide the details of the filament you use, if this is a 3d printed venture?

Cheers for any info in advance

Rep was online but did not bother replying.

All orders will be made and manufactured locally in Australia from PLA
Hand wash only, keep below 50 degrees/c

Definitely 3D printed parts. Are they food safe, rep?

Hand wash only, keep below 50 degrees/c
    biodegradable plastic
    DO NOT wash in dishwasher.

If you don't respond to questions it comes across like an admission that these are made with a 3D printer which anyone could do at home if they own one.

Also this is the same discount as last post so it seems more like using OzB for free advertising than an actual bargain.

As per above, this is 3D printed being sold for a mark up!

PLA are definitely not food safe. Just cookie cutters STI files downloaded from the hard work of others from Thingiverse with massive markup.

PLA should not be used for food.
OP, if you are online why are you not replying to the above posts?

i would not feel comfortable using a pla cookie cutter - as someone who has gone through about 20kg of PLA now over various rolls and brands, at least 90% of them needed some kind of post production work - and unless the OP has some kind of fancy polymer sealant maybe, id be worried about bits of pla ending up in the cookies. im happy to be corrected but these kind of prints are porous, so as the others pointed out above cannot be cleaned properly/ will be a breeding ground for bacteria.

BUT I GUESS WE'LL NEVER KNOW AS REP HASNT COME BACK TO ANSWER QUESTIONS, lol.

Yeah… PLA for food items isnt a thing. Also PLA is hygroscopic, so it soaks up moisture.

Added to this, you can get on AliExpress and buy whole kits of cutters for the price of one of the ones from this store…

No reply from OP regarding above concerns? Poor form. Neg

Why isn’t OP addressing concerns from the OzB community? That’s a neg from me.

I wanted to address any concerns regarding the safety of using PLA-printed cookie cutters with food and clarify our process to ensure quality and safety.

Why PLA is Safe for Food Contact:

    1. Biodegradable and Non-Toxic: PLA (Polylactic Acid) is a biodegradable thermoplastic derived from renewable resources such as cornstarch and sugarcane. It is considered non-toxic and safe for food contact in various applications, including disposable utensils and packaging.

    2. Low Chemical Leaching: Unlike other plastics that can release harmful chemicals when in contact with food, PLA is known for its low chemical leaching. This makes it a safer choice for making cookie cutters that will come into brief contact with dough.

    3. Common Usage in Food Industry: PLA is widely used in the food industry for various applications, such as food containers, bags, and bottles. Its use is supported by its favourable properties in food safety and sustainability.

    4. Short Contact Time: When used as cookie cutters, PLA-printed items typically have minimal contact time with the dough, further reducing any potential risk of leaching or contamination.

    5. Cleaning and Maintenance: PLA cookie cutters can be cleaned easily with mild soap and warm water. They should be hand-washed and dried thoroughly to maintain their integrity and hygiene.

    6. Customisation and Precision: 3D printing with PLA allows for precise and customised designs, ensuring the cookie cutters are free from rough edges or imperfections that could harbour bacteria.

    Design Integrity and Safety Practices:

We want to emphasise that we do not download or use STL files from websites such as Thingiverse. While these websites offer a variety of designs, we prioritise safety and originality in our products. All our cookie cutter designs are created from scratch to ensure they meet our high standards of quality and safety.

By designing our cookie cutters in-house, we can control every aspect of the production process, from the materials used to the final shape of the product. This approach allows us to provide safe and reliable products for our customers.

I want to highlight that our prices are quite competitive compared to others in the market. We strive to offer high-quality products at a reasonable cost to provide the best value to our customers.

We want to emphasise that we are not making anyone purchase anything they do not wish to. Our goal is to provide choices and options that meet your needs without any pressure or obligation to buy.

If you are not interested in any of the products we are offering, we completely respect that.

    Best regards,

    KKC
