For anyone wondering, the specs say this monitor has two HDMI inputs only, no displayport inputs, no DVI inputs.

Would a Displayport to HDMI cable work?

I have a mini PC inside an arcade machine and I'd like to upgrade the screen to something like this, but the mini PC only has a Displayport output.

Should be no problem - I'm using a DP2HDMI adapter connect between mini PC to a portable monitor.

        • Cool! Good to know. Thanks for the info. For $99, I'll give it a shot.

      • Would a Displayport to HDMI cable work?

It can, but there are two types of cable or adaptor.

Passive cables often work, if your PC/video card has the "DP++" logo. This is an extension to displayport, which can output HDMI-compatible signals through the DP connector. But it's not 100% compatible, as DP can usually only output signals with 2.5V logic levels. HDMI uses 3.3V logic levels, so not all monitors can handle the lower voltage, and it often appears like the cable is damaged - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

So if you have a monitor that doesn't like 2.5V HDMI, or if your video output isn't DP++, you'll have to use an active cable/adaptor, which is more expensive.

Look up the prices, it may be cheaper to get a monitor that has DP built-in.

Also, many people don't know that DP has an advantage over HDMI: you can run up to three monitors from one DP output, by daisy-chaining the monitor cables, and connecting the last monitor to your PC/laptop. If you have a laptop, this means you can have a triple-monitor setup on your desk, only using the single DP or USB-C video output on your laptop. If that output is used in HDMI mode, only a single monitor is possible.

        Be no problem.
If going from source DP to HDMI on the monitor you only need a passive adapter.
You only need an active adapter if going the other way, from source HDMI to DP on the monitor.

      no internal speakers

      • That's a shame, such a handy thing to have for an office set up. It means less clutter & wires.

  • Can I use a hydraulic arm for this? The LG page doesn't mention vesa at all.

  • How does the LG for $99 compare with the MSI for $87

    • The LG one is 25" (24.5 actually), slightly larger.

Msi is va, lg is ips

    • No adaptive sync
    • NTSC 72%
    • Brightness (Typ.) [cd/m²]: 250

Better deals in the other cheap monitor thread

  • how cum it's so cheap

  • Only 90% Rec.2020 coverage.

  • It's 2024, get a 4K monitor. Can't go back to a FHD.

That said I still have only a FHD TV that is more than 10 years old which works fine still.

  • Well guess I know what's getting bolted to the wall as a permanent CCTV screen.

    • Couldn't you just buy something 2nd hand on Gumtree for $20?

If I wanted it to look like garbage sure. I just renovated the entire damn house I want it to look pretty lol.

For $100 IPS with a decent viewing angle is very reasonable (in my opinion anyway). The viewing angle makes all the difference, I've got (or will have) 2 viewing screens in the house for these (dual living setup) and when I replaced the other one with a standard IPS Dahua it was just much nicer to look at from all angles.

I ended up grabbing the MSI one 24.5" for the same price delivered though.
