  • Wow, the elusive paperback version from Germany as an option. :)

  • I know I'm in the minority here, but I found this to be dreadfully boring.

If you like heavy exposition and anime robot nipples, this is for you, but I found this dull.

it's not an anime thing either. I can easily recommend Akira, Perfect Blue, Paprika and all the Ghibli films I've seen so far above this

    Edit: good price though

    • did you watch this when it was released or just recently? your thoughts on the live action adaption?

Only recently. Haven't seen the live action adaptation.

    • You're perfectly entitled to your opinion.

I think it's innacurate and reductive to describe it as "heavy exposition and anime robot nipples". It's heavy exposition, an examination of the philosophy of transhumanism, a moderately diverting mystery, a major milestone in the cyberpunk genre, and briefly features some robot nipples.

To anyone who hasn't seen it: watch the opening titles without skipping ahead. If you get bored, it's probably not for you.

I have a fairly high tolerance for movies other would consider "boring". I am a big fan of Ingmar Bergman, Andrei Tarkovsky, Kore-eda, etc.

Tarkovsky can veer towards philosophical pondering, but it never feels as excessive or basic as the relatively obvious exposition in Ghost In the Shell.

Then again, maybe I'm just not big on the genre. I also found Blade Runner (the original) rather boring and void of emotions or depth beyond it's very similar core subject. 2049 was a massive improvement imo
