With so many crashes and deaths out there in news, not wearing a seatbelt is not a good idea.

Have you tried this one simple trick that law enforcement hate? "Wear your seatbelt"… Then it doesn't matter how many cameras they have or where they put them…

TLDR: OP is scared at night.
Just keep not wearing your seatbealt. Soon enough you'll end up with a far worse injury than a shoulder, and you won't have to worry about driving at all.
I eluded to this in my comment but it's not just about them. In an accident they become a projectile and can injure/kill other people in the car and outside even.

No one is going to care. If your shoulder injury is so bad as to prevent you from wearing a seatbelt, then hand in your license and don't drive.

They are the easiest fines to avoid for most people.
Your PSA shoulder be "wear your seatbelt" or apply for an exemption if needed.
Your talk of night time suggests a trip to an optometrist may also be warranted.

How did you even get your driver's licence?You could invest in a 1960s or earlier vehicle. Prior to 1969 if a vehicle did not have a factory fitted seat belt you can still drive the car without one.

Sorry OP, but how did you pass your drivers license test?. Only been mandatory in nsw for 50+ years.

I personally despise the police using safety as an excuse for their revenue raising exercises, but I have zero sympathy for people receiving fines for not wearing seat belt.
There is typically an increased medical cost of having an accident when not wearing compared to wearing a seat belt.
OP, consider the heavy fine your contribution to the difference in that medical cost.
PS. You are worried about more letters which means you have driven on other times without a seat belt. Divide the fine amount by the number of times driving without a belt; and in your case the fine for each isn’t too bad.
PSS. You have actually been very lucky; lucky not to have been fined on other occasions, lucky not to have had an accident when unrestrained on other occasions, lucky you got fined as a wake up call to fix your potentially self destructive behaviour.

Agree though, we live in a Villa complex and ours is at the end of the driveway (25m?), i often stop at the mailbox, get out, check it, get back in the car and put the belt back on, if nothing else but to stop the annoying beeps but also just because it's second nature… It's also second nature for me to double check anyone Im giving a lift to/driving around also has theirs on too..
