    Damn, no bluetooth!

    • +3

You are seriously expecting bluetooth for $79?

      • +9

        Nah, expect it for $50!

          Spoken like a true Ozbargainer!

        • Win!

You are seriously expecting bluetooth for $79?

No, not at all, but we all love a good bargain, so why the heck not hope for it? I'd be buying this for the lifetime maps, to replace the one that DOES have bluetooth, so I want the best value I can get for my $79. Wouldn't you?

  • Called menai and rockdale nsw, both showing stock on internet but they told me they have only re-furbished stock. heading to JBHIFI now to see if they will macth this.

  • Why the comment about "no bluetooth" - what feature does that offer?

Acts as a handsfree speakerphone for your mobile.

        Exactly!

Our current one has bluetooth, but it recently cost us MORE than this to update the maps for 12 months.

GARMIN nuvi 1450LMT for $149 no bluetooth either but this unit has life time map, 5" screen, a better look as well as free trafic message. Most importantly, this unit receives much better review.

Tomtom Via 160 with bluetooth functionality is now $99 and it's also part of the map promotion.

just went to JBHIFI caringbah and picked this up for $75 on price match! Great deal seeing its rrp in JBHIFI was still $124. yes doesnt have bluetooth but i dont use that in the car anyways and a lifetime maps can't go wrong.

    • Is that possible if you can upload your invoice so I can bring it to convince them? Thanks.

  • Is the only benifit of Bluetooth that you can use yor mobile phone hands free?
Can one with Bluetooth pair with a cars Bluetooth to gain any benifit?

    • Don't think so. Both the car and the GPS utilise bluetooth primarily to act as a hands free kit.

Not sure I'd ever buy another TomTom VIA product… the VIA 180 takes a ridiculous amount of time to proper sync/triangulate/align with the GPS satellites. I must have drove for over 5min before the system started working properly the last time I used it. And what's worse is that I bought two… one for my bro and one for my best friend. My Garmin never has this problem but all those who use TomTom keep telling me they're too use to the GUI and won't touch Garmin because of this. Their problem I suppose.

  • Does this really do safety camera alert??? or we have to pay extra for that service???

    • +1

      Safety Cameras
Your device comes with fixed safety camera alerts (speed and red-light) pre-installed, to help you to drive more safely and responsibly.

      • Thanks mate.. just wanted some reconfirmation!!

  • Can I ask if this is worth the money in purchasing?
I currently have the HTC One X phone and its navigation system is great in my opinion.
I am also not concerned about data usage as I have plenty.

    Should I purchase:
    a) Hands-free attachment for the phone.
    b) This Tom Tom GPS devie.
    c) Other…?

if you travel outside of mobile coverage areas from time to time, and don't have offline maps on your phone, that would be a vague justification for getting something like this - otherwise, personally, I wouldn't bother..

      • +1

…. and maps will flatten you phone battery fairly quickly - you don't want to be lost in the middle of nowhere, with a flat phone battery.

        • Both excellent points. I use to do a lot of field work in regional areas. That's why I got myself a stand alone GPS unit and stuck with an older Nokia E63 phone which has battery life that lasts for days if I don't use internet.

  • I never used a GPS before.. Some of the other offers on Dicksmith is saying Free life time map..
Does that mean this one here TomTom Via 220 we have to buy a map every year? What is the difference between free life time map and this one?? Thanks loads in advance and excuse my ignorance..

The list of TomTom models are all eligible for lifetime map update.

There is bluetooth on the via 160. I bought one at HN for $98.

  • price matched at springvale VIC JB.

    • You guys got luck. I went to JB Canberra Centre and they won't price match it. Was told that this price would be lower than their cost price by $40.

      • That doesn't sound right…I know taxes are high here, but come on! $40 cost value? No way. Try like 10-20…

      • Hardly Normal sells this and because they advertise the fact, they HAVE to pricematch.

  • any comparative 5inch devices?

  • Should I hold out for a more quality device?

Does anyone know what this fella is like?

I want one that will last me and wont lead me off a cliff.

Oh and preferably has Morgan Freeman's voice as a standard feature, but I'm easy…I'll settle for Edgar Allen Poe.

  • JBH George Street (Strand Arcade) refused to price-match DSE but got mine for $79 at JBH Westfield Sydney. As far as I can tell, they still have a few stocks (5-10).

A Tomtom 4.3' GPS at this price, it won't go wrong.

  • just went to three dse stores - this is apparently EOL so many have display or refurb/repairs remaining :\

luckily i got one brand new replacement they had for $79 - could haggle on price :(

Jb hifi couldnt give me a deal even though i purchased $400 of other tings in store :P
