Thanks for the heads up. Was looking at the 2Tb Extreme Pro SSD in June, glad it was too dear at the time, dodged a bullet there.

I think I might avoid Sandisk now. In June I did buy a SanDisk 512Gb CFExpress B card, it was a great price, despite reading of overheating issues with it. Sandisk's previous good name tempted me. Returned it after testing, its speed dropped 1/2 to 2/3 for read and write when it had done some tests and the card in the reader physically heated up. It's been known from early on, but they keep selling, won't fix, sounds like hardware issue.

    • Could you share your source that it is still unfixed today? The latest news I can find online was around November 2023, not much after that.

Apparently some reported error mounting and/or disconnect while use after the drive is half filled, subsequently all data lost. This is Amazon, if anyone wants to risk it can test the drive for a month and if fail, lodge a return. Also, WD only admit it was firmware problem, but regardless firmware or not, you can check serial number below to see if it was affected.

      • My understanding is that it had been fixed and was a firmware issue only from certain batches, hence the serial number check service. In fact, the data was still there and recoverable if you read the reddit thread.

I can certainly understand being shy of the product now though.

Please Google prior to purchasing. Poor design which doesn’t seem to have been fixed at this stage?

  • Early ones of the Sandisk 4TB seem to be ok, but wouldn't put my trust in any new ones being bought today. Samsung T7 a better bet.

  • Is this the cheapest 4TB m2 SSD around? I want to shuck it, I read that it’s possible so seems like a good option.

Edit: I mean the $264 one

  • Would the Sandisk 4TB SSD be suitable for PS5 USB archive storage and PS4 games?

    • +1

even the extreme pro is nowhere near fast enough for ps5, but archive for ps5 or playing ps4 is fine. but honestly way cheaper to just buy a good m2 ssd and an enclosure…

  • yeah for the price and not usb 4 its not going to be that fast.

I have a 4tb usb 4 pcie drive I built myself and its gets over 3000mbps read and 2500mbps write.

all you get with these is 1000mbps max.

  • this or adding an m.2 into a drive cady?
