Do not buy these drives. Famously high failure rate. I've personally had 2/3 fail. Spend the extra $$$ and get a crucial and thank me later.

    • I have had the opposite experience. (knock on wood) the e30s have been fine. The crucials have failed me.

      • I haven't seen a Crucial fail, but I've seen a lot of fake SanDisks and failed real or fake SanDisks.

    • Thanks man! Nothing worse than a faulty back up drive and not realising it until you need it…

Do you know if the Samsung ssd’s are reliable (t5 or t7)?

      Cheers

      • Samsung is the gold standard in my opinion but they're roughly double the price.

For vital data its Samsung only

For general storage I use crucial. Have had no failures yet

Been really happy with my 1TB Samsung T7. Got it off marketplace for $50, hasn't failed me yet

    • I was going to say something similar.
pretty sure this, or the Sandisk external that looks very similar is well known to break on you quickly.

but since the title said "E30 Gen 2" I wasn't sure if it was the same one or if this is the new updated model.

anyway yeah heard from multiple people irl and online to avoid the one that looks like this. (actually the one I remember had a cutout in the top corner, this one doesn't have that)

      • The original issue was with the cutout model (tough line?) but i have had the same issue with this model specifically. bought 3 (because they were cheap) 2 failed and i tossed the third because i didn't trust it. I sent them both for warranty claim from SanDisk and they ghosted me also

    'Reliable storage'

    I don't trust SanDisk.

Issues with Sandisk SSDs reported by numerous tech journalists: https://petapixel.com/2023/08/08/sandisk-portable-ssds-are-f…

Issues with SanDisk SD cards posted by Canon USA: https://www.usa.canon.com/support/canon-product-advisories/S…

    • I learn that lesson too with Sandisk Ultra usb now, just only got it for few months, now cannot write anything more than 2 mins, also can't even read everything off out from it, it will just crashed and eject itself, got all these TV files wife is watching, need to wait for her to finish them all before I can take it back to centrecom claiming warranty, such a pain!

  • Have personally been using this model for past two or three years, no issue.

In case anyone need more info: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/08/sandisk-extreme-ssds…

Here are the drives Western Digital has said are affected:
    - SanDisk Extreme Portable 4TB (SDSSDE61-4T00)
    - SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable 4TB (SDSSDE81-4T00)
    - SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable 2TB (SDSSDE81-2T00)
    - SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable 1TB (SDSSDE81-1T00)
    - Western Digital My Passport 4TB (WDBAGF0040BGY)

  • Worse than YMTC 128L TLC NAND because you expect much better from WD/SanDisk

These look like the infamous Extreme Pro Portables repackaged to be sold to unsuspecting Kmart shoppers

Plus read the 1 star reviews on the SanDisk website

    • These look like the infamous Extreme Pro Portables

yeah that's the exact one I was told to avoid the one with the cutout.

kind of dodgy if they just swap the outside case and call it "Gen 2".

  • yeah got one of these for my sentry mode in my tesla the annoying thing is that it will start to corrupt data over 500gb even though its 1tb. that being said they may have fixed this issue in recent times I havve no idea do you guys still get the issue with it corrupting at 500gb?
