Just an FYI, there is no Zoom (Not a PTZ camera). Awesome price!

    • -2

There is PTZ, but it is manual (done physically by the user) "Manual Pan & Tilt"

But this is definitely a consideration point for most users. A fixed position is a down side :/

      • It has automatic pan and tilt, it just doesn't have zoom.

      • +2

        PTZ = P(an)T(ilt)Z(oom)

This seems to be PT only and WITHOUT Z(oom)

    • +1

Thanks for calling that out, I wasn't sure.

      • Many cameras, similar to this has PT however for some reason we assume the Zoom PTZ.

  • +2

    insane price

  • +1

    Great price, just got one

  • +1

It says the original price was $400, is that the real price? Or fake marked up price

    • +4

Australian retail price is $299, but it's on sale pretty regularly at 30% off or so (it's currently $209.99 at the Australian Reolink site, on sale). This is still a decent discount.

    • Usual price is $147 on Aliexpress and it has been that price for months

  • -3

You want to 5x Optical zoom version, not this hybrid zoom rubbish.

    • +1

Get ready to pay 10 x the price. For this price, you'll expect limitations. Plus many won't have a POE switch. Therefore a great marketing strategy to purchase the Reolink NVR, supporting 4K, adding another ~ $400 unless you have existing compatible NVR

      • 10 x 116 = $1160 per camera?

        • Actually the Reolink is around $450.. i was referring to another

    • +3

You want to the 5x Optical zoom version

Quit bitching, and buy the RLC-823A when it goes on sale again. ;)

  • Do I need an NVR to use this?

    • +1

No. Reolink can be operated via an app. Backup can be via an onboard SD card. There is no need for ongoing subscriptions or extra hardware.

      • +1

How are you going to interface the camera to the internet so you can use the app? (Hint: check the video on the camera's page)
        Extra hardware required
        1 - Micro SD card
2 - POE switch or NVR
3 - Camera PSU if point #2 are not purchased
4 - ~ 10m+ CAT5/6/7 ethernet cable to use in billet point #2 (as in box 1m is not suffice)

        • For external cameras do you drill a hole and run the ethernet into your house? Can you recommend a camera setup that doesn't require this?

          • +2

@shiggaz: They also have wifi cameras. Reolink, Eufy etc. Please research

            • @vinni9284: Thanks!

              • +2

@shiggaz: They're limitations. Subscription to view footage, wifi drop outs, etc

IMO, NVR mounted with a WD Purple HDD.

You pay for what you get

    • +1

No, however you need a POE switch {Not the usual ethernet switch) to interface with the camera's app or a camera PSU + 5m+ ethernet to your router.Wlth the cost of the switch or a PSU, you might as well pay extra and get the NVR.
Furthermore, if you solely decide to use the micro SD card, it's limited to 256GB and has to be physically installed into the camera. Another additional cost of the card. You then need an external power supply to power the camera. For that price i assume it's not included and not specified. Do you have a Power Point socket on the roof or near the camera mounting point so you can plug into the camera? This camera like many other camera manufacturers are geared for you to buy additional hardware to work seamlessly. ONVIF is a protocol that allows other manufacturers camera's to use with different NVRs. I wouldn't trust it as you lose features IMO

      Excuse the essay :P

      • +1

You make it sound like it's a big hassle if not buying the more expensive route NVR.

I bought a 4 port POE switch ($45), 2 x 256gb SD card ($35 each, high performance for recording), cables is an obvious one, you'll need it no matter which setup.

Inserting the SD card to my POE doorbell and POE RLC-823A is so simple, like inserting your phone sim card.

You don't need extra external power supply's to power up each POE devices. You know what a POE (power over ethernet) switch is for right?

You can view/download/snapshot playback recordings on the SD cards through their mobile/pc app easily without physically removing the card as you've mention earlier.

NVR cost is around $350+? My setup cost me < $150 including cables.

        • You don't need extra external power supply's to power up each POE devices. You know what a POE (power over ethernet) switch is for right?

I did mention on the start of my post about having a POE, OR camera PSU? So not sure where I'm saying that you absolutely need a PSU.

          Please have another read

256GB memory for 8MP camera will lucky to save 5 days of 'continuous' footage on full settings (unless you drop res to 1080p LOL) before it loops. That size memory is yesteryear. No way IMO an SD flash drive will be reliable as a surveillance HDD for events captured the may be crucial. I wouldn't trust it for the long term. Plus it's weathered outside although it may be protected… and actually can be physically removed if accessible.

So basically, I can physically remove your door bell SD card and see all activities over a period of time? (You, your visitors, family etc)

          • @vinni9284: If you re read your own post again, you mention if you decide to use the sd card, then you’ll need external power supply and then talk about is there a power point close by. Lastly you said all of these the manufacturer want you to buy additional hardware.

All of these things you pointed out are misinformed.

256gb is plenty enough for my settings. I dont have it recorded continous, only triggers and starts recording based on my designated area i created within their app. It last me 3-4weeks before it overwrites.

You can't easily remove my SD card unless you intend to physically remove the devices. Please do your research where the Sd card is stored.

You also forgot to mention about the extra cost of buying Hdd storage ($200+ each) on top of the nvr, so its not just paying a little bit extra.

And remember the OP posted a POE camera device. Even it does come with a psu connector just in case.

            • @nomoremoney:

you’ll need external power supply and then talk about is there a power point close by

Only if no NVR or POE.

The discussion previously was regarding not using POE or NVR..

Can i physically rip out your doorbell? 💯
.. i get a doorbell camera and all of your memory with it.

PS: It doesn't come with a PSU so an additional cost of you go the ethernet to router only.

              • +1

@vinni9284: Get on with the times mate. Why would you discuss about buying a camera that requires power( PSU), which cost more to setup (need a PSU, power point close by and then an ethernet cable), that's old school setup and confused the buyers here?

Let me reiterate, the OP posted a POE, I provided a simple cost effective solution based on my current setup at home. Yet you blabber on about having to connect using power here, power point there, need PSU when it isn't necessary.

Sure, you can rip off my doorbell, only a stupid thief will come to my place, steal my doorbell and leave. Saves me more headache and money for insurance :)

Also, you know, functionality of a doorbell is use for? Yep, it's just a doorbell, convenient for me to see who's at the door, ringing and also 2 way-voice talk. It's not a security feature, hence I have a dedicated security camera bolted to my brick wall.

I meant the device comes with both POE (ethernet cable) and power connector (for PSU).

I have purchased a POE PTZ camera and it came with its own PSU (That is like a laptop charger). It is used for powering up the camera alternative from NVR and a POE switch. This doesn't come with it and should be factored when setting up a system.
Yes I am with the times mate. I am very well versed in the CCTV setup.

You're bladdering (actually never heard that one) on about using an SD card, saving some money and I've pointed out its vulnerability. Loss of privacy (due to the assailant possesing your card) and having no internal redundancy. Bascially I'm justifying my point of investing in NVR's which for some reason you had say your two-bob's worth by stating that you've saved a truck load by getting cheap POE and ethernet setup.

Good for you and I hope your camera setup serves you well!

                  • @vinni9284: Ok this will be my last reply :)

Let me break down your quotes so you could get a better understanding of what you wrote.

                    Your quote:
"No, however you need a POE switch {Not the usual ethernet switch) to interface with the camera's app or a camera PSU + 5m+ ethernet to your router.Wlth the cost of the switch or a PSU, you might as well pay extra and get the NVR."

                    My response:
Please explain your definition of pay extra? What is a reasonable extra is worthwhile upgrading to NVR?

POE switch = $45 NVR (barebones) = $300 So paying extra 600% more is a better option?
POE switch + SD Card = $80 NVR + 1 HDD storage = $500 So paying extra 600% more is a better option?

                    Your quote:
"Furthermore, if you solely decide to use the micro SD card"
"You then need an external power supply to power the camera"
"Do you have a Power Point socket on the roof or near the camera mounting point"
"This camera like many other camera manufacturers are geared for you to buy additional hardware"

                    My response:
You specifically said if you intend to use SD card route, you'll need external power supply, plus must have a power outlet close by and saying manufacturers geared you to buy additional hardware. As I mention before, I'm using the SD card setup, I didn't need to buy any additional hardware.

Just FYI, if a would be thief(s) wants to steal contents in your house, no matter how good your security cameras are (whether $20k or $1) the thief wouldn't at all care and still commit the crime.

                    Your quote:
"Loss of privacy (due to the assailant possesing your card) and having no internal redundancy"

                    My response:
What lost of privacy? It only captures people coming and going and probably family and friends talking outside, close neighbours already can hear us talking anyways.

If they steal the card (which they'll need to break the camera off), it's the same as the thief entering your property and manage to find your comms rack or where ever you store your devices and take them. No difference at all.

My camera and doorbell serves me well so far for over 3 years without a hitch. Saves me tons of mulla.

                    • +1

@nomoremoney: Overall, it seems we are both happy with our CCTV systems.

                      Have a good weekend

        • If I don’t have an NVR, can a thief just steal my parcels at the front door and then pop the sd card and flee with the evidence ? I’d probably mount it high enough so it’s inaccessible, but also agree it’s not much to get a Poe switch/psu compared to nvr.

          • @dammit: The camera has to be mounted in a position that is not easily accessible. Regardless of the memory configuration.

          • @dammit: sd is not that simple to pop out unless they decide to remove the device. It is locked inside.

          • @dammit: Can, but also have recoding to computer somewhere

    • +1

You don't need one, if you're running multiple cameras it's probably worth getting an NVR.

If you're looking to get started with cameras I suggest just buying yourself a POE switch and run all your cameras back to that. Even if you plan on getting an NVR later it's better to put it on the network rather than connecting the cameras directly to the NVR.

      • +1

Normally, when you start purchasing a camera like this, you start to build with its eco-system. One camera is never enough and I assume you are not going to mix and match different branded cameras. I highly recommend an NVR (Same brand) to future proof (at least 8 channels due to bandwidth limitations) and add rather than having several cameras running off a POE switch with its own internal SD card.

  • I wonder if I can install it upside down on-top of a vertical post to maximise the use of the 355° pan? I know I can flip the image in the app/NVR so I'm hoping that won't be a problem with the other functions. Can anyone confirm?

    • +3

Mirroring and/or flipping the image should not be a problem. This is a pure display issue. Mount the unit however you like.

      • Will it then flip the controls for pan and tilt if the image is flipped?

  • +1

Doesn't mention onvif but supports rtsp

  • +1

I am unable to get this price - shows $101 for me after coupon. Is there a trick to this?

    • Same

      • Yeah it's over

      • I've just bought 2 at this price - give it a try again. Wasn't working for me last night either

  • +1

    Deal over.

  • I have one of these connected to my Reolink nvr I have never been able to get the auto tracking to work. I think about putting an SD card into and taking it off the nvr. Anyone else solved this issue?

  • It's 92.60 after switching to USD. So is this deal gone?

  • +1

I have one of the these. It's definitely worth it at this price.

Picture is good and Person tracking works well for me. But the motion detection in general is annoying to tune. Reolink is my first security camera product so can't comment if that's just how it is with these things.

It is missing 'patrol' which is reolinks sentry mode. That's a bit disappointing.

    • I picked up one from this deal.
Got it hooked up to my Reolink NVR.
Compared to my Reolink Trackmix POE, the video quality is not as good, and definitely tracking is not great.
In saying that, i paid double for the Trackmix POE vs RLC830A, so probably not a fair comparison.

Specs are fairly similiar except for the single lens on RLC830A, which is probably the main culprit.

  • Deal over? Was going to purchase it. Dang

    • I've just bought 2 at this price - give it a try again. Wasn't working for me last night either

      • did you do 2 seperate transactions? because if i tried to buy two, it's still expensive as i get less discount

        • Yep 2 separate

  • Just got 1 of these - deal still active. Fills up my last spot on my NVR

  • Does the power cable fit Australian power point? It ships from China so I'm not sure whether I need a 2pin-3pin power plug adapter…

  • Tried entering the code at checkout and the apply button is greyed out. Is there anywhere else to enter the code?

  • For it to work, I had to open in incognito mode.

  • Deal looks over as showing up as 117USD now.

    • was working last night went to purchase this morning deal was over

double checked just then and it was working so got one

  • Thanks OP just got one, ended up being $117.14 AUD via PayPal.
