Thanks, Can't wait to adjust my facial hair in real life to make a more accurate Mii of myself!

Same price as the US for the Basic Console, and only $30 more than the US for the Premium model.

    Exceptionally good deal.

    • Considering this price includes GST (which the price never does in the US), I'd say it is actually cheaper than in the US and possibly the cheapest anywhere in the world! It is closer to $600 for the Premium Pack in my home country of Sweden for example.

  • Nice find - will be interesting if the other stores match this priceā€¦ I have some Good Guys vouchers to use! I actually had the Wii on order from Big W with that $40 off voucher, but I've cancelled that now.

  • Yeah, I'm not going to be able to resist buying one, I can already tell.

  • Hey guys do you reckon I should buy this. It would be my first home console since I usually by handhelds. However, the gamepad seems really cool and innovative. I already have a 3DS, DS LITE, psp and bought the vita the other day. Is this worth it?

    • It depends. Are you a big fan of Mario, Zelda, Pikmin, Metroid and so on and so forth? If so it's definitely a great console to pick up and it'll be the only way you'll be able to play those games. WiiU has my pick for best multiplayer console to date, just because of the innovation in controls.

If you want single player experiences that aren't "Nintendo"-ish I wouldn't recommend it immediately but if you're after a Nintendo experience or a great multiplayer experience, do it!

      • thats more so with original wii.
the new wii should is a next gen console which is capable of playing any of the AAA titles you will see on xbox and playstation, and i expect that to be so with 3rd party software support.
best multiplayer console?? i think you mean local multiplayer.

can you pay for this with Woolies Wish cards?

ie. an extra 5% entertainment book discount

    • +7

Kmart is apart of the Coles group (Westfarmers?) not Woolworths.

      • I would get BigW to price match and then use your cards. I just done it with a PS3 price matching JB Hifi

  • +1

Sorry my bad.. For some reason I thought it was big w.. Heats got my brain fried..

  • +3

First time I've seen k-mart with a good deal!

    • I can kind of agree. Their everyday prices are always lower than BIG W or Target. That's why BIG W and Target stores have one off specials to bring you in, otherwise you'd never leave Kmart. Kmart can't be rivaled when it's something small like a dvd player, usb stick, cd sleeves, clothes, etc. But on the big items better deals can always be found.

  • +14

dont need it, dont need it, dont need it…will preorder tomorrow.

  • -6

    I really wanna get a 3DS XL…. what time should I buy?

    • +4

When the shop opens at 9am…

      • I think he's asking when a pricedrop will likely occur. Short answer probably October next year. That's when all price drops seem to happen with Sony anyway.

  • I'm expecting Big W will probably have the cheapest price on launch day - they seem to do that pretty often.

My local JB HiFi (Hornsby NSW) are good though - they'll match Big W/Kmart/whatever and they'll normally knock $10 off each game you buy with a console.

  • +3

any links to an online version of the catalog?

edit: is this applicable in WA?

    • +7

It's an Australia wide catalogue, but they dont get uploaded online until Monday.

      • cheers :)

      • how long does the sale go for?
i'll be out of the country for 2 weeks just before the launch :(

        • It's only going til the 5th December.

        • thanks for that..

thats depressing then. might have to get someone else to buy it for me.

  • <sarcasm> Just Dance 4 will be so much better with a touch screen game pad…. </sarcasm> ;-)

Yes, will probably get one…. sigh….

  • +1

I think i'm going to cancel my Big W order for this (I hated having to wait for it to ship) but the only problem is that i used a $50 Wish gift card for the Big W order, if I cancel it will I get that gift card back?

    • +1

I guess I'll just call them in the morning to find out before I go down to Kmart

      • Just in case anyone wanted to know, Big W just gave me cash back for the Gift Card yay :)

        • I didn't have any issue cancelling my preorder at big w either and in fact it was pretty smooth and fast. Cancelled it around 10 am and I already got my money back around 11.30 am.

  • +1

I also wonder if EB Games will price match, if they do then you could go get it at midnight !!!!

    • -8

Wii U isn't exactly something you'd wait until midnight launch for lol..

      • Yea that's probably true but I finish work just before midnight so it would work well for me
plus Midnight launch in general are cool like bow ties :P

        • +1

EB won't price match at a midnight launch… unless of course the store you are price matching is also open at midnight. This was just confirmed on their FB… but they are going to price match it the next day (as per their price matching policy).

        • +1

Thanks for the info. There goes that idea. Oh well, easy come easy go :)

        • +5

No worries, it'll be worth the wait for a $49 difference, plus the difference in the games. After a long hard work session, lining up at a midnight won't probably be the most pleasant.

        • +1

You're definitely right about that. Paying that much extra just to get it about 9 hrs earlier isn't worth it.

        • +3

Some Kmart stores are open 24 hours, so it would be available at midnight there.

        • I didn't know they existed lol, are there any around the Brisbane area?

        • K-mart is 24 hour. So technically you can still get it? - Wow didn't even see ieatcrackers answer that already.. Sorry

        • Not all Kmarts are open 24 hours, in fact there are only 1 or 2 in Melbourne that are.

    • +6

You are price protected at EB. So you can go to the midnight launch, pay full price, and then go back into the store the next day (or up to a week later) and get the extra $50 refunded back to you in cash. I work at EB, and have done it for customers countless times.

      • That sounds like a good idea. Is it on the EB Games website at all (eg anything official in writing)? and what happens if they refuse to refund the difference?

        • +1

I don't know if it's documented anywhere as I don't go on the website all that often but if you want confirmation, call your local store first.

      • I wonder if every EB employee will be as cool with this as you are.

      • Edit: Nvm

      • +1

That's not going to happen. The managers desperate to keep their GM (gross margin stats) will either say they don't match consoles (which I've been told) or the local Kmart will be "out of stock" so they won't do it. Just go to Kmart and save yourself the money and messing around with EB.

        • EB will accept return with full refund for any item returned in its entirety in perfect condition. However they would not accept return of the packaged game (Nintendoland) if it has even been opened. This might be helpful as an alternative to this undocumented "price protection".

          17.3 Refunds and returns

If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with a product you have purchased, we will provide you with a refund (except for certain items described below) or exchange if you return it to any EB Games store in Australia within 7 days after you receive it in its original condition (including all packaging, accessories and manuals). For your convenience, we also accept returns by mail: please call 13 39 30 to find out how to make a return by mail. Your electronic invoice is required for both in-store and mail returns. In the event that a returned order has any packaging, manuals, accessories, blank warranty cards or other items missing, the return may be refused, or we may deduct the value of any of the missing items. Shipping charges are non-refundable; however, we will refund your original shipping cost if you are returning a defective item, or because of an error on our part. Due to copyright laws, computer and game console software, music CDs, DVDs and videos in opened packages may only be exchanged for the same item.

  • +1

I'd only buy this console for New Super Mario U.

    • +2

I guarantee you, you will find a mini game in Nintendo land you will like

  • -1

How come it's so cheap? I remember when the N64 came out in 1997 it was like $700.

    • +9

You must remember poorly then, the N64 launched at $399 AUD and dropped down to $299 AUD one month later.

      • +3

Well he is close enough once you take into account inflation

      • You could get it even cheaper than that. I remember picking mine up from Games Wizards for $250ish with a free game (F1 Pole Position) a month or so after launch. Then I distinctly remember the $199 pack with the clear purple controller.

      • +2

Sorry about that. I got an NTSC N64 shipped over from the US in December 1996 because I couldn't bear having to wait 3 months for the PAL version (which when you're 15 is an eternity). Wasting the entire school summer holidays without having an N64 just wasn't an option.

  • This seems Like too much of a bargain for a new console :o

  • -4

How come nobody is doing deals with 2 gamepads ???

    • -3

i believe you cant get an extra gamepad outside of japan atm

      • -1

How are u supposed to play a game with a friend then?

        • +4

Nintendo marketing fail? You use wii remotes buddy, no games can currently use two game pads.

        • +4

in nintendo land atleast from what ive tried, there is a "host" and the others use the wiimotes

        • Ya 5 players atm, but could potentially be 4x gamepads + 4x wiimotes (or more) in future. Just depends if the U's BT module can sustain that many simultaneous connections/throughput with the controllers. If it lives up to the task we may even see skype working with many gamepads (nothing a webcam equipped PC cant do) or 8 player tag-team Smash Bros Wii-U.

    • +2

do some research mate… there are NO games that even support 2 gamepads (yet)

  • So the question is to premium or not to premium…

    • +1

Why would you get the basic? just asking….

      • If you already intend to buy an external HDD and hook it up. The in built storage on the premium is more than the basic but it's still pitiful, and you're going to need to supplement it with an ext HDD anyway.

It's down to whether the other extras included are worth $80. For me they're not. Plus I also prefer the white colour.

      • I'm getting the basic then buying nintendo land seperately j(and about 5 other games) ust because of how terrible I think the black looks. Just personal taste, I have a white iPad for the same reason

    • +2

I've talked to a Nintendo rep at work and she suggested that the Basic Pack is mainly focussed at people that already have a Wii because you can take the sensor bar off your old wii and put it on the Wii U.

I prefer the Premium because it comes with the sensor bar, a dock for the Wii U controller and a game.

Nintendo actively put low storage in each console because each one can be expandable using USBs, external hard drives and SD cards, and this method makes it cheaper for them because they dont have to remake the Wii U every 2 years with more storage.

      • +1

Nintendo actively put low storage in each console because each one can be expandable using USBs, external hard drives and SD cards, and this method makes it cheaper for them because they dont have to remake the Wii U every 2 years with more storage.

Because updating the package every few years takes a lot of effort right? They could have at least left room for an internal HDD addition.

The true reason is more like they want to save money because they don't want to sell at a loss. $380 is a lot of money for something with no HDD, especially when the tech is only current gen (which is ending soon). The ports of games that released on other systems have been running poorly on the Wii U.

        • +1

I read somewhere that they are selling at a loss this time.

        • The report is that they are profitable after selling one game. For MS and Sony, the customer needed to buy more games than that before they break even.

This is only a tiny loss.

They sell the console at a price you would expect if there was a HDD in it. Basically you have to fork over extra for your HDD, whereas at this price from an MS or Sony console it's already there.

They didn't cut the HDD to save you money… the price wasn't reduced to save you money. The money that was saved was Nintendo's.

  • Anyone know if JB will match this? Not sure about their price matching policy

    • +1

When I pre-ordered, they said they'd match anyone else.

    • Yeah, that's what they told me just now even though Kmart store is 7 km away. And I would be pretty mad if they decided not to honor their words at launch.

  • Hmm.. the basic pack is even cheaper than the US price.. at launch too. That's strange. If I were to guess, they don't think Wii U will sell out at launch.

  • Anyone cancel their Big W online preorder? I wanna know if you just call them up…I had trouble canceling the 3DS and had to wait for it to be delivered, then return it in store.

    • I did it through the online contact page, if I don't hear anything in the next couple of days I'll call them up.

      • Can you price match for BigW? Or at least price match Bigw if they end up putting up a simular priced catalogue? It's not much of an issue for me cause $10 more. That and not to sure how reliable my local Kmart will be.

        • But with the Big W order you have to wait until it ships and you won't get it until the following week (approx 4-6 Dec)

        • I don't think the shipping is that bad. More likely you'd get it the following week yes, but more 3 - 4.

Will Kmart put this online? Or is there a way to check local stock?

        • When I called my local Kmart they said to call back the day before and ask about stock, atm they hadn't received any.

  • +3

I want to +1 this deal but its on 69;)

  • Can only pre oder instore correct?

  • If you already pre ordered from Big W, i don't see the point in cancelling. You're paying $10 more and you get the Wii U delivered & a silicon case to protect the Wii U pad with. At $199 to replace the pad, a silicon case might be a good investment :)

    • I watched a drop test video of the gamepad yesterday.. That thing is unbreakable

      • I believe silicone case is for your protection but not the gamepad protection. :)

        • I agree. I had it ordered but didn't really want the silicone case, only got it because it was free with the console but wouldn't have used it and at the time it was the cheapest deal available. Plus I didn't like having to wait until the following week for it to be delivered so i'm glad there's a better deal.

      • Give it to my autistic son and watch him get angry at a game… I bet you it wouldn't last more than a day…

  • +4

Called my local Kmart they confirmed the price of $379 for the premium Wii U but told me they weren't doing pre-orders and I would need to come go down there first thing on Friday and hopefully get one.
I then called Kmart Customer Support and they said the exact same thing.

Called EB Games Customer Support and asked about price matching said that it has to be in stock at the other store, If you go get it at the Midnight release then the other store isn't open to confirm the price and available stock so I would need to pay full price and would need to go into the store the next day and ask for a refund and if the price was less then 20% of the EB Games price then the EB Games store has a right to refuse the price match (20% off $429 = 343.2, so that shouldn't be a problem). Sounds a little bit risky there but they said to contact your local store to confirm whether that store will price match or not.

Called my local EB Games Store they outright refused to price match at all (for Midnight release or on release day when other retailer would be open) because the console bundle could be different and Kmart didn't have a pre-order system and they would be getting very limited stock. They were quite rude about it. I tried to explain I had spoken to Customer Service already and Kmart is selling the exact same console with the same stuff included. They just started repeating the same thing and refused to listen.

I then called my next local EB Games store who were much more friendly and more helpful. They said That they do have pre-orders available and they would price match however if I went to the midnight launch I would need to pay full price and come in during the day to come into store and they would be happy refund the price difference.

Called Big W Online Support and canceled my online order, no major problems. I used a $50 gift card with the order and they just going to give that back in normal money YAY :)

Now I'm going down to my other Local EB Games store (the friendly one) and pre-ordering it. Its surprising how a little little of friendly service by a retailer can go a long way with customers.

Sorry for the long post :)

    • Glad to hear you've got a store to price match it for you. Bummer about the first store though. I'd just shop at the friendly one from now on.

      • Yea I plan to shop at the nice store from now on and it's technically closer to home then the "evil" store but it's in a major shopping centre so it's easier if I have other things to do.

Also found out that the nicer store is also holding a midnight release :)
