  Had a similar model Brother that I got 2 years back, laser is the way to go. No colour unless you pay a lot more but black and white is all I need. Cheap generic toners, can't go wrong.

  Thoughts on Ecotank Epson or laser color Not much printing really just occasional prints and photo’s. Duplex scanning though a must. Thanks

  I have a Brother monon laser bought about 10 years ago MFC-9340CDW. Had no problems.
  I buy the toner from Ink station. Works pretty well.

  If you plan on using aftermarket toner, best to block the device from reaching internet so it cannot communicate with Brother servers. Aftermarket toner chips sometimes get blocked via firmware updates and you'll get a toner not detected error until you use a Brother branded toner with the corresponding chip.
