    Lost me at Trip.com

    • -4

Totally agree, used them one for flight and found out they don’t ticket immediately they try and delay in hope of a price drop they then keep the difference. Very suspect behaviour.

      • +3

So what if u book a flight say through Qantas and the price drops later would u cry?

        • id wannacry

        • +5

??? The problem is if they time it incorrectly you could miss the flight all together because they want to profit from your transaction. You are taking the risk they are taking the profit. Not right in my books and very unethical corporate behaviour at best.

          • +6

@SpaceJudge: Have u personally missed a flight because of this? Legit question coz I’ve booked a lot of flights through them , agree sometimes tickets are issued a little late max 1 day for me. Never had or heard issues with them not honouring flights you paid for.

Hey end of the day, you do you. If you rather pay more and not trusting one of the top agencies it’s all good.

      • +1

I've bought a flight via Trip too. And when you buy, it clearly shows you the ticket issuing time. And I did get my tickets within the time frame. So there's nothing wrong as they already tell you how they waork. If you can't accept just don't buy it from them.
        How come that's suspicious.

      • +1

Delayed ticketing is something worth pointing out. But whatever the actual reason (and it could certainly be a stupid or greedy one), the idea that they are gambling on price changes is obviously illogical … because prices can also go up obviously, and are more likely to do so than to go down.

Especially if the flight is in the very near future, which is the hypothetical scenario you mention below. There is much greater chance of prices increasing in the 1-2 days leading up to departure than any possibility of prices going down.

Trip com has fantastic customer service.

I booked flights thru them, every time the airline changed the flights I received a call from Trip.com. They rebooked at no cost and offered free cancellation.

    • +1. I booked through them for Singapore stay. No hassles. I also booked my flights and always was updated with change of schedule and free of cost change.

    • +5

That’s not true in my experience. I booked and paid for a flight six weeks in advance, but one day before, I received an email that it was canceled. Customer service was terrible, with no response on the day. I had to book another flight last-minute. They later offered an alternative with a different day, time, and a ridiculous layover. I requested a refund, which took three weeks to arrive. I will never use them again.

      • +3

I had this issue. Missed a connection due to delayed arrival at transit airport and when they couldn’t find anything (guess really cheap) ; they asked me to rebook myself and offered a refund. The refund took around 3 months. I wasn’t impressed. Also I was out of pocket a fair bit

      • This is why IMHO booking directly with an airline is the way to go. Booking via a 3rd party site may be cheaper but can be problematic if the flight is cancelled etc

Frankly, I see no difference between Trip.com and Booking.com in terms of service etc.

  • I've heard varied reports on experiences using them. Any other thoughts/experiences?

    • +1

Trip.com has been good for me. Used twice.

    • I have used numerous times. Good app and prices. It's now my go to

    • Used a handful of time, has been good. Customer service is actually surprisingly good.. I got calls from them when flight schedule got changed by the airline to check if it was still gonna work for me.

  • Anyone hazard a guess if the cap is per transaction or per account? I.e. for a large total price hotel you could reap the full cashback by splitting the stays over multiple transactions?

  • Thank you. I am just about to book through them.

  • Has anyone have the hotels stays paid out before?

I used it back in 2019 for hotels in Japan. They all tracked but none was actually paid out. Whereas Agoda was paid out for the same trip at another hotel. All was through shopback.

    • +1

Yeah no problems with payout before

  • +4

Trip never really has the cheapest rates even with the cashback options. If you know where you want to stay just do a Google search in incognito mode to find the specific hotel. Google will show the hotel then enter the dates you want to stay and Google will display the best options/prices across different providers. Click on those links for the best rates on the various accomadation platforms. These rates are always lower than the typical rates you'll find on normal search on Trip.com or Agoda.com. I am a VIP Platinum Agoda user and I still find better rates via incognito searches.

    • +4

I think it depends. I'm platinum trip, often on par with cheapest fares from Google, but not always.

Tend to find some hotels who do not discount to anyone, and those are the ones where trip may come under.

      • +1

What is "Free Airport VIP Lounge Access (×1)" mentioned as one of the benefits for platinum users?

        • I actually don't know because I haven't used it (haven't booked an air ticket with trip since earning platinum). I would've guessed priority pass or something similar. I'm about to book flights on this deal so will let you know

          • @blighst: Thanks, I found this in their T&Cs, looks like if we're eligible we could add on as a free option when making a flight booking;

            Free Airport VIP Lounge Access:
            1. Trip.com members are eligible for free VIP lounge passes within each year (January–December): 2 passes for Diamond Tier Members and 1 pass for Platinum Tier Members. If the benefits issued at the beginning of each year are not used within that year, they will expire at the end of the year. If the benefits are used to make a booking in one year, but that booking is canceled in the following year, the corresponding benefits will no longer be valid after cancellation. Due to a high volume of benefits being issued at the start of the year, there may be a 1-week delay until benefits are credited to the user's account. 2. If a user's member tier is upgraded or downgraded, the number of available VIP lounge passes will be adjusted according to their new member tier. For downgrades, any passes that have already been used will not be revoked. However, for upgrades, the passes that have already been used will be deducted, and only the difference will be granted. 3. When booking flights on Trip.com, you can only apply this benefit if there is an eligible VIP lounge at the departure airport. If the flight booking is canceled, the VIP lounge access will also be canceled. The latest time to redeem the lounge access is 23:59:59 the day prior to departure. When you choose to apply this benefit, you will receive a QR code that you can use to access the VIP lounge. VIP lounge passes are not available for Flight + Hotel bookings. After booking flight tickets, you can add a VIP lounge pass to your booking through the Trip.com app or mobile website, but this is currently unavailable on Trip.com's desktop website. 4. Amenities and services, usage method, usage duration, and cancellation and change policies vary by VIP lounge. Refer to the terms and conditions of the relevant lounge for details. 5. If a user is found to have obtained passes through improper methods, Trip.com has the right to withdraw the benefit and take further action as appropriate. Trip.com reserves the right of final interpretation of this promotion.
The rewards can only be used by the user themselves and cannot be transferred to others. If any risk is found during the issuance and use of the rewards, Trip.com may adjust the scope of bookings required for upgrades and the rewards terms and conditions.

    • +4

I believe hotels in Asian countries are much cheaper via Trip.com, but Australian/other countries may not be. All the China/Japan hotels have been much cheaper (by the hundreds) compared to booking/Agoda from what I've seen.

    • It always pays to shop around. I've found great rates on all sorts of different web sites, sometimes Trip.com others Booking.com etc. Depends on many different variables on the day you attempt the booking.

  • +1

You could be right there but so far with I haven't found any cheaper rates via Agoda or Trip unless I do incognito searches. I have noticed when you click on cashback links (like the 17% offer above) they actually just bump up the prices so it is more expensive (final price including cashback) than booking via searches in incognitio mode.

    • +2

Trip is the worst at customer pricing, changing price depending on what channel you came through. Booking do it as well, I have not noticed it on Expedia.

      • Interesting… which channels does Booking.com do this through? And which regions?

I’ve used app and website for Booking.com for Europe and hadn’t seen any difference but if there’s a way to optimise this, I’d be keen to find out

    • +1

That is what I find with Trip when I did the comparison with and without cashback booking. Sneaky

    • +1

I haven't come across this. Just compared my booking.com bookings to Trip.com with 17% cashback and Trip.com still came out cheaper on price (excluding cashback). So much so I cancelled my booking.com bookings and went with Trip.com

Trip.com has better rates in the Asian market e.g. Singapore, China and Japan. It's based in Singapore and is now Chinese owned, so most of its customer base is travelling within Asia.

  • Thanks OP, booked yesterday with Cashrewards at 10%, but bless free cancellation lol.

Tracked pretty much instantly with CR so hopefully SB tracks soon.

  • Booked various trips including hotels and flights via Trip no issues. They are one of the biggest agencies in China

  • Hey @gotyourback, can you please confirm if the $250 cap is per account or per transaction?

Also will it track if we use the app?

    • +1

I'm resigning to splitting my booking over 2 SB accounts

Yes, it tracks as as the SB page opens the trip app.

      • Thanks re: the app, it says in the t&c's "cashback is available only if you visit the Trip.com website via our platform", but usually it would open up a browser inside shopback, so a bit confused.

Have booked anyway via the app so hopefully it tracks.

        • +1

On the SB app clicking Shop Now auto opens the Trip app for me and I get a popup notification from the SB app saying my shop is being tracked. I made a booking after midnight and the tracking email appeared 20mins later

          • @txb: Great thanks! Mine's not tracked after about 40 minutes but I'll give it a bit of time. Appreciate the info!

  • Nice, good to see no mark up in prices for flights to China compared to what I saw yesterday

  • Guys just one question,if i have 630$ flight tickets out of which roughly 500 are taxes,so my cashback will be tracked on 130$ or 630$. Thanks in advance

    • Good question, would like to know too. Just realised taxes take up more than half of the flights I'm looking at booking.

    • +3

can confirm taxes and fees are not included in cashback, so only the $130

      • Thanks mate, at least i didnt lose out on much

      • +1

        Well that's pretty pointless.

  • +1

Negative past experience for me. They took about four months (and many false promises and mixed messages) to issue a refund for a pre-covid cancelled flight. Wasted a lot of my time and energy trying to get them to do their job. Never again.

  • +2

bought flight tickets last night. one for $880 and another for $510 on two seperate clicks. tracked by this morning, but ..

the cash back amounts are only 1.3%??????
    $8.8 and $4.1 respectively?
i have lodged a ticket, but shopback is notorious for not honouring error.

    • Did you book yesterday? This cash back rate only started today

      • +1

past midnight. the promo was active already

    • Yeah I just booked an hour ago, flights were $600 or so +$200 taxes, so would expect that at 13% I'd get $78 odd back as cashback, instead I got $7.32?? WTF?

How did you lodge a ticket? It won't let me do it for 48 hours?

      • +1

Is it because the tax is not 10% but much higher? The tax amount for flights I want to book is higher than the fare itself.

        • Not sure what you mean. There is certainly no stipulation like that in the Shopback Ts and Cs.

      • +1

Just booked also, and little worried but found this statement in the t&c: Your Cashback may be tracked at a different rate initially and adjusted to the correct rate when we confirm the transaction details.

        • Thanks. I'll keep an eye on it and see if it adjusts. Some other people reported theirs tracked correctly at 13% first up so a bit concerned.

EDIT: Just checked and the amount has adjusted, maybe check yours as well might be the right figure now.

    • I believe the cashback excludes the tax&fares, check your invoice. In my case, the tax&fare is more than then fare itself

    • +1

      Well, that's crap.

  • -1

Does the cashback valid when booked via the trip.com app?

    • Yep my app purchases were tracked.

      • How many percent did the cashback track back at?

        • +1

Hotels tracked at the 17%, flights I booked around midday but haven't tracked yet at all for some reason so not sure, probably because the tickets will be issued in 48 hours. Will update once it does.

          • @mangobango: I made two flight bookings via app around 4pm, about 20 mins apart. First one tracked correctly at 13% but second one hasn't come through yet.

            • @firestint: Hm interesting, did you get tickets instantly for both of them? My booking had free cancellation for 48 hours until they actually issue the tickets.

              • @mangobango: Yep itinerary sent in less than 5 mins. But now I realised we have to go through them to make changes to booking like requesting for special meals which is annoying

                • @firestint: Fair enough, hopefully the second one tracks soon for you.

I booked another hotel which tracked but the flights still MIA. Hopefully it will once I get the tickets.

    • I saw this from the T&Cs:
      Cashback tracking
Cashback is available only if you visit the Trip.com website via our platform.

  • Thanks, booked myself a weekend away

  • +3

Hey Shopback Fam! We identified a mistake with the Trip.com Cashback rate earlier. It's now fixed, and the correct amount will reflect in your account within 72 hours (as long as your purchase was made during the upsize period before mid day).

If the update doesn't show after 72 hours, just send us an email with your full order confirmation from the store.

Just a heads-up: The $250 cap applies per transaction, not per account.

We apologize for any confusion. Feel free to reach out if you have questions or need anything else. Take care and stay safe!

    • Thanks rep, appreciate the update!

Quick question, I have flights that I booked which haven't tracked, but I haven't been issued the tickets yet as it has a 48 hours free cancellation on it. It's been paid though, do these cashbacks usually track after the tickets are issued?

      • +1

Hey @mangobango! For Trip.com, Cashback usually shows within 2 days.

If it's missing after 2 days, you can easily report it at http://www.shopback.com/account/missingCashback

Quick tip: Reports should focus on the pre-tax amount.

        • Thanks, I booked some hotels before and after the flights which all tracked normally, but I'll give it a couple of days and submit a report if it doesn't show up.

          Thank you!

    • Hi Rep

I booked my flights on 21/07/2024. Transaction was tracked but at incorrect cashback rate. [$11.11 instead of $110.85. (i.e. 13% of the pre-tax amount of $852.70)]

I have reported the matter to Shopback twice with no response yet. Any suggestions how to get this resolved.

      Thanks

      • Got it! 👍I've replied to you @Riddler2018 via DM.

    • Hey rep,

Unfortunately my traced amount still hasn’t get updated. Raised it with ShopBack but no response. Any chance you could assist?

      Thanks

      • Sure @maestroj! Could you drop me a DM with the details, please? I'll look into it for you
