      Or overcapacity.

      • So they've increased the number of flights?

        • Possible. I'm no aviation specialist and don't claim to have the answers.

    • +2

What is low demand is anyone wanting you to post.

      • -1

        They're not available for purchase.

    • Are cheap japan flights also low demand?

      • +1

Has there been any cheap flights to Japan lately?

  • +2

Any flights on sales from Brisbane to Shanghai?

  • +13

Remarkable price really. Prices listed are comparable to a basic Perth to Melbourne or Sydney return fare on Jetstar…

      • Does that include "2x 23kg checked luggage, meals and entertainment"

        • i just few china southern. and yes, its 2x23kg. so total 46kg.

    • -1

I assume China subsidises the flights like they do everything with some broader economic or political impact.

      • +3

        Like Australia subsidising Qantas?

        • yes, that too would be a subsidy. Well done.

  • +1

Buy Beijing and get off Guangzhou. WHO would pay for Guangzhou direct flight?

    • +3

Your checked in luggage , and return sector will end up in trouble.

      • I have a flight to Kunming with a stop over in Guangzhou with China Southern. I picked a flight with a very long layover so I can explore Guangzhou. Would you or anyone know whether my checked baggage will go straight to Kunming or will i need to check out and in for the final leg? I would prefer it goes to Kunming.

Also getting onto flight to Kunming, i would go to the domestic terminal 3 hours early as if it was an international flight? Thanks in advance for help, will make planning with kids easier!

          1. It's quite flexible actually if it's just an overnight layover. At the counter, you can ask to have your checkin luggage go straight to KMG. Your luggage will be laying over at the CAN airport and board the same flight to KMG as you do.
You can ask for a free hotel room as well with free shuttle bus sending you to and picking you up from the hotel.

          2. Your connecting flight is deemed domestic. For domestic flights in China, 2 hrs in advance would be ideal. As you have got your luggages checked in already, you just need to follow the steps below:
Explosive check (2min) > Security check (10-20min, incl. queuing). With kids, probably expect it to be slightly longer.
Boarding gate usually opens 40min prior to departure.

        • my experience with a layover at CAN is you need to pick up your checked baggage if your layover is greater than 24 hours. If you do a tour, transfer hotel or otherwise, might be different.

    • Way to get your return flights cancelled.

Just spend a day in Shanghai or something.

      • The airport in Shanghai should be enough for you to spend a day

    • You can, just need to buy another return ticket and explain to authorities why you done a dodgy move when getting back your luggage 😂

    • that'll give airlines an excuse to cancel your flight because it's not actually allowed…

The iShowSpeed effect in full blast .

    • I think so too.

    • +3

These sales are on pretty frequently, especially as the visa has been removed for Australian tourists, its never been easier to visit China.

    • +1

Tbh, Australian really care about him?

    • The what effect?

    • Who or what is that

  • +4

Beijing would be my pick. More tourist hotspots around there. Shanghai is ok for just food and shopping though. Guangzhou is a decent gateway to southern China and perhaps even crossing the border to other countries or HK

    • +1

Agreed, been to Beijing and was super surprised how good it is for tourists. The great wall is so different to how I imagined it to be, and public transport was very good.

    • If you wear glasses - head to Shanghai international glasses mall - you'll pay for your trip in the savings.

      • Sun glasses?

        • Prescription glasses of any type - multi-focal, bi-focal, polarised sunnies, etc.

About 70% of the world's prescription lenses get manufactured in one city not far from Shanghai. I'm more concerned about the quality I'm receiving in Australia!

The cheapest I've paid is $30 for standard prescription lenses with frames, eye test included, and manufactured for me in under 15 minutes. Multi-focals will require 1-2 days turnaround.

      • You don’t need to go to China to buy Chinese products. I get my designer sunnies, $1k+ retail, for $100 delivered from a chap with a HK phone number named Wang.

  • +2

Crazy price!! Why not from Perth :(

    • +1

      Why not bne!

    • +1

Probably because not many flights to China from Perth I'd guess.

  • +8

This seems like a bit of a bait and switch. Tried booking twice, once through Gotogate and again through Mytrip.

Once all my details are entered, I attempt payment via PayPal, only to be told “Your flight has increased by $742… This is due to high demand for your flight. Please confirm your acceptance to proceed.”

Funds have been withdrawn (twice), but in my PayPal it says pending authorization, so I suspect I should get a refund in the next few days (hopefully).

Has anyone been able to purchase flights successfully? I wonder if this is due to payments via PayPal.

    • +3

I just tried as well. This fare is unbookable and you won't get the error message until after you put in your credit card number and press pay.

      • Thats convenient

      • What about using VPN?

    • +3

Hi - I just tried purchasing a ticket and received the exact same message (with Mytrip). I suspect these flights are not actually available. I will talk to the mods about getting this deal removed. Sorry for wasting your time.

Just flew China Southern from Melbourne to Seoul return and highly rate them. Service and entertainment were great, meals were great and everything ran on time. Very tempted right now!! Happy travelling!

      • Same logic as https://www.productreview.com.au/, virtually anything's bad.

        • -2

          virtually anything's bad.

          not true.

      • +1

after flying 4 flights with them the last week (syd-guangzhou-beijing-guangzhou-syd).

i have to say they are pretty good. service of the staff is better than the general qantas flights. (even at checkin counters).

        flights are all on time.
        seats are ok.
inflight entertainment is quite limited. similar on almost all flights.

food is pretty good. the food differs depending which way you're flying.

flying towards china (you get more asian based food)
flying back to aus (you get more aussie food)

i personally feel if there is anything under $600 for these routes, it would be a very obvious decision.

    • Service and entertainment were great

What kind of entertainment did they have?

      • -1

        Mahjong

      • +1

blackjack. lol. and even inflight, the house had the edge. tsk tsk…

        • How many decks?

    • +3

Agreed. Flew China Southern last week and they are a full-service airline, good food, drinks, very attentive attendants. The planes we caught were fairly new 787-9s, clean and comfortable. Stacks of movies in English and Chinese to watch. I've flown many airlines over the years and really think CS aren't too far off the pace of Singapore Air.

  • Goes to $800+ per person when I add kids :(

    • +10

      Dont add the kids

    • +1

      doesn't 2 x 23kg luggage mean kids fly free?

      • Perhaps only the skinny ones.

  • Does anyone know, if my passport needs to be renewed, can I book with the old (still current one) and then update with the new one once I've renewed?

    • Yes, you can.

      • -2

        *At your own risk…

  • Looks to be for single ticket only?

  • Did anyone manage to get these tickets?

  • Does anyone know if I can add an infant onto the flight (by calling the airline direct) after making the booking?

Looking at flying to GZ and prices are jumps up from $600pp to $750pp when i include an infant

    • by calling the airline direct

Doubt it if you book via a third party.

  • Expired already? That wasn't even 1 day.

  • +1

wtf lol expired already, whats the point
