    AM5 Mini-ITX Roundup: AMD A620, B650/E & X670E (Ryzen 7000/8000/9000)

Does most of everything you need. No PCIe 5.0, no CPU overclocking and Curve Optimizer.

Cheaper than the ASrock A620I lightning WiFi but has worse VRM and only one M.2 slot, it does however have DP and HDMI compared to the single HDMI on the Asrock.

    • no CPU overclocking OR UNDERVALUING

      • Wow we can't undervalue the CPU anymore? What a shame. Some of them are really overvalued

  • What would be a good pairing for a 7900x or x3d ?

    • I mean, it'd work. I personally wouldn't pair a performance CPU with a budget board.
No PBO and weak VRM. I'd pair it with a 7600

      • Thanks for that information. What I meant was, what would be a better (but not ridiculous) MB that would work better with those CPUs ?

        • See hardware unboxed YouTube roundup

  • I need a z790i for this price please

    • z790i lightning hitting aus when

      I want to run 8800mhz ram…

edge only goes to 8200-8400 atm

    • Just watched the section for this board. He says it's fine. Basic, but fine. The B650i is shit because it's basically this same board for a higher price.

He says to avoid it and to buy the ASRock A620i instead because you get an extra M.2 and the VRM is much better for $20 USD more. I personally am not comfortable with the VRM running over 100 degrees especially since this is mini-ITX where it's going to be stuck in a small case with limited or little airflow and packed close to other components.

        • What's VRM?

          • +3

@CommanderShepard: It's part of the power delivery for the motherboard. Voltage Regulator Module = VRM. The lower the temperature the generally longer life of the motherboard, it also means that your CPU is not throttling as hard too. For instance if a motherboard VRM is running at 110 degrees Celsius, it will deliver a lower voltage to keep the power and heat down and as a result the CPU may be throttled or not boost as high. But at 70 degrees Celsius it might reach the highest boost clock available. Many people overlook the motherboard when buying a new computer.

            • @KARMAAA: Thanks for the thorough explanation @KARMAAA .

Follow up question, how do you compare VRM across motherboards?

              • +1

@CommanderShepard: There are tech reviews on youtube. You just watch them.

              • +2

@CommanderShepard: Reviews, like the one I linked above where they test the temperature of the VRM by stressing it. Higher is generally worse, but if it's 80 degrees versus 75 you're not going to see much of a difference. But if it's 110 degrees versus 80 thats a huge difference and the 80 degree one will fair much, much better.

If you're buying a 7950X you shouldn't be buying either of these boards but for most people that'll only use a 7500F or 7800X3D the VRM should be perfectly fine.

  • I remember the early BIOS of this board allows you to PBO but later they removed it

    • Yeah I saw a comment somewhere saying it was hidden. Too bad

  • Just ordered gigabyte x670e aorus master $550 for new CPUs coming soon and Will drop a 9800x3d into it eventually. All the research I've done seems that I'll only miss out on usb4 which I don't care about anyway.
Hope I made the right decision not going with x870e mobo.

  • Pretty sure this board doesn't support AMD's SMA (smart memory access) for those who plan to use an amd cpu and gpu pairing. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Would not get this over the asrock a620i
