Received a notification today via the iPad Newsstand that back issues of the Lonely Planet Traveller Magazine have been temporarily reduced in price.

These are normally $5.49 each, but now most issues are now $0.99. It will be even better value if you are using discounted iTunes credit.

Unfortunately, it appears not all back issues have been discounted, but a good selection including the ones featuring China, California, America, City Breaks, Trips of a Lifetime and Paradise Islands.

  • Armchair travel at a bargain price. Check your library to borrow the printed editions. After all these are old copies.

How old school. ;) That means I would have to carry around paper!

Using Harvey Norman bought iTunes credit, it costs $3 for 6 issues, which is probably less than the petrol I'd use to get to the library LOL.

Obviously, I know this bargain won't appeal to many, but figured someone might like it. And travel magazines won't date as quickly as say, a fashion or gossip magazine.

      • No iPad & cheap! Rather spend money on almost constant travel ;) Borrowing is an alternative.
Carrying about 250g of paper is no imposition & get some free exercise.
(My library is beside the supermarket - so little extra effort bringing back multiple copies.)
I just take the time to curl up somewhere comfy & read the travel ideas.
Good mags - short articles, handy for a quick read.

      • These mags are good for travel inspiration. So no criticism of this deal.
(Feb2011-Nov2012 at my local library within walking distance. They are popular - so may not be on the shelf.)

Also many of the LP digital guide books are available to borrow free at Brisbane libraries for 21 days. (Online or in library at download stations) Probably at other libraries. Just borrowed one. Handy for research before a trip.

But I find TripAdvisor better for current advice when in the country.
