Why is the firmware a problem?
If you want GoldHEN to run game backups. If you plan on going online then this is irrelevant to you as no PSN with GoldHEN.
If it's is under 11, you can jailbreak it and download games, saving you more money (but no psn)

Not necessarily, but it seems this batch of consumers was produced before that firmware was released, so it will make sense. I think someone else commented that they done with 10 something

If there are games that people enjoy on it, then there's your justification. Our PS2 and Wii still gets use every so often.
Just look at how often posts for retro handheld gaming consoles come up. Old does not mean bad game play. Often it's the opposite.
Comparing the PS4 to retro consoles isn't fair because retro consoles primarily sell due to their nostalgia factor. The PS5 is backwards compatible, so if the extra cash isn't an issue, it's hard to justify buying a PS4. Jackson's point about pricing is valid—it's crazy to pay so much for a last-gen console when the new gen has been out for 4-5 years.
When us the consumers are happy with whatever bs these corporations throw at us, we shouldn't expect the market to get better.

Exactly, I picked up a brand new PS3 for 179 from target even before the PS4 was out I believe, I ended up flogging it off to someone for even more because I couldn't see myself starting a whole new pile of shame on a new platform. I am glad because I picked one up from the Salvos with 2 controllers for 25 bucks or so later and it works just fine. Not complaining about the games, just the price being so high
Don't get me wrong, I am a retro gamer through and through, just picked up a bunch of 360 games and playing Worms Ultimate Mayhem and Child of Light which I just picked up for a few bucks from the shut down sale. What I am arguing is why 230 bucks for a new one when you can find them for sfa online. I know some people must have a new one but it's still too pricey. I also still play 3DS titles and old arcade and Sega stuff
Not everyone can afford the new gen and something like this is an excellent price for someone who doesn't have much to spend but wants an excellent console packed with great games. Combine that with homebrew and you have a good time and plenty of savings to be had.

It's not the 90s anymore, in 2024 last-gen consoles still run all the latest games.
It doesn't even run them significantly "worse", either: in the old days the new console being 480p was a big leap over 240p and made the old console redundant. But today, the old console is still doing 1080p, a sharp clear rich detailed image. 4K is better, but only subtly better. A much smaller change in the actual playing experience than 240p-480p was. In fact, many PC gamers who have hardware capable of 4K at 60FPS still play at 1080p by choice to get higher framerates (FPS).
And this thing is still like 6 times as powerful as the Switch.
Have you noticed that lots of people buy older cars rather than new ones, even though the newer ones can do the same job but better? Yeah, same reason that people might buy an older console rather than a newer one.
I mainly play ps4 games on my ps5. Recently Days Gone, monster hunter world and watch dogs 2.

This means that the PS4 console is from a batch in late 2022 as firmware 10.01 came out in Sep 2022. It's all consoles older than Firmware 11.

Update: It appears like you will not even be able to login to PSN unless you update the PS4 which means you'll lose 9.00 and never be able to jailbreak it again after.

Looked at PS4 on market place and most of them looked rooted, covered in dust and even liquid spills on some (Amazed most people don't give them a clean before listing) Anyway bought this deal and looking forward to buying a few pre owned games for some affordable casual gaming.
