Zip still alive? Good to know that.

    • +7

Great for bpay with no fees.

    • +12

How are they vultures? If you can't pay for it, don't buy it. It's pretty simple. A bit of self control and discipline and a budget, and these deals with coupons can save you money, if used correctly.

      • -6

The whole industry is about going into debt for small purchases. The only people who would do this are desperate lower socioeconomic groups or those financially ignorant. They are the modern loan sharks.

and these deals with coupons can save you money

These deals are used to attract those who would otherwise have no use for their services in an attempt to normalise the use of their services in the general public whilst continuing to profit of the desperate and vulnerable people.

        • +1

Then why don't you try to shut down the credit cards as well. As if people don't use credit cards for small purchases

          • -7

@lovebargain87: Because credit cards are more regulated with rules about responsible lending and credit checks.

            • +1

              @PainToad: nice bs

              • +1

@askbargain: What exactly did I say that is bs?

                • +2

@PainToad: Both credit cards & BNPL are both predatory. HappyPants’ caveat “if used correctly” is not something either lenders want.
Pokies, gambling, drugs, alcohol, …… “if used correctly”.

Zip wants me to 'verify my identity' by handing over my online banking username, password and TFA token?!?
fck off zip pay. no deal.

    • +4

There are other form of identity checks so do that first then comment

      • It won't let me do any others. Paypal fails with some generic error, and although it says I can verify with social media account, it doesn't actually have any option to do that.

  • +3

Zip Pay has a single use card feature that is good for subscriptions that you want to experiment for one month only.

    • +1

yes exactly and I also use that feature to buy cheap game keys from shady key sites, that way i keep my credit/debit card info safe.

    • Is this different to the Revolut one?

      • I haven't used that one. How does that work?

      • +1

+1 for Revolut, create unlimited virtual cards that can be frozen or deleted, alongside the ability to generate a one time use card and intl exchange rate is OK (not as good as 28 degrees, not as bad as a regular bank)

  • +1

giftcards excluded. not going to be quick to find $200 of things to buy

    • I remember zip don’t really check this if anyone want to confirm by buying a $200 Amazon gift card?

  • +1

Losing faith in Amazon ever since they started running ads on Prime shows.

    • I lost faith after they messed up my deliveries, resulting in me never getting those orders then deactivated my account when I asked for refunds even though I spent hundreds times more the amount compared to amount I asked for refunds.

  • +3

I heard you need to run a credit check for Zip unlike Afterpay so unsure if its worth the $10. My understanding is that you don't want to do unnecessary credit checks or am I misinformed?

    • +1

Yeah you do, it will appear on your credit report as well. Can’t recall which credit bureau they use.

    • +1

Afterpay will soon run credit checks but I agree with you. Not worth the check for $10

  • Zip charges monthly account fee, Is there after pay or amazon, cant seem to fint it

    • No Afterpay on Amazon though you can buy Amazon giftcard on Afterpay iirc, also if you payback the money to zip i think you don't need to pay any monthly fee. someone else may correct me on it.

  • +1

It's not worth it. 5% off only and need to spend $200, just wait for those 5-10% off gift card deals and save your hassles from registering with another BNPL payment method.

    • You can stack with discounted gift cards by only paying a $1 or something via Zip and the rest via GC.

  • -1

    $9.95 monthly fee
    Whelp there goes the savings…

    • +1

can pay it back next day to avoid

  • Can we buy gift cards?

    • +1

      giftcard excluded

  • +1

Don't sign up to zip if you don't have any other credit history. It'll smash your credit score.

  • Anyone know if you can earn $10 more than once in multiple transactions?

    • +1

      In the T&Cs

The maximum benefit you may receive from this Offer is $10 off the purchase value of the Eligible Order.

      and

This Offer can only be redeemed one time per customer.

      • I thought so. Thanks.

  • +1

    Cheers Penny! 🍻

Btw thought I point out that the $10 credit still applies even if you only charge Zip a $1 (haven't tried anything lower but most likely should work).

So the rest you can pay using discounted gift cards.
