Yuck tastes like glue & looks like it too.

    • What gravy do you recommend? Or is gravy too unhealthy and/or not delicious tasting?

      • +1

Knorr gravy or Maggi or my go to brands but I buy them bulk 1 or 2 kg .

      • Ahh Bisto is pretty good, or Goldenfry. Both are granules, takes about 2 mins to prepare

        • Prepare, as in adding boiling water and stirring? Lol
I do like Bisto but it is very expensive, I just bought some Goldenfry off amazon due to arrive tomorrow as an alternative.

      • Try "Green's Gravy Granules", I think it's a lot better than Gravox. Easy to find in the supermarkets, usually on special, small containers so not much waste if you don't like it. Not super cheap though, if you eat gravy all the time go for the bulk maggi.

Whisk 50g butter with about the same amount of flour and then slowly whisk in whatever stock suits your meal. Viola you’ve made your own gravy. Tart it up with some herbs, a dash of Worcestershire or a bottle of apple cider.

Nice meat is too expensive to drown it in crap packet gravy.

        • That's actually not gravy

          • @Tuffstuff80: Ok, throw in some pan juices too if you have them. Sure as hell a lot closer than the gravox is!

    • Agree. Purchased a couple of these on the last promo. They are horrible. Stick with the mix if I had to choose.

They taste all right. Not as good as restaurants, but certainly good enough for us!

Save yourself some money and buy a tub of Maggi gravy.
I havent bought this stuff in years since they decided the raise the price to stupid amount. kinda glad they did since Maggi tastes much better.

  • You can also earn some Shping coins too if you have that app and activate it.

  • Has anyone got any alternatives to their Diane sauce that tastes better?

Yes, make your own. It's really not that difficult. I'm thankful my Ma taught me how to cook, these days we've got YouTube. I realise that not everyone has the opportunity and time to both learn how to do it or have someone teach them, but learning to make your own gravy and sauces means you save money and your body from the junk they fill these things with. Once you've done it a few times you quickly wonder why people don't just make it themselves, a bit like the pasta sauce in a jar, there's not that much to it.
I cook mainly for myself and get that it's a hassle much of the time, but if you're going to the effort of buying an expensive protein then it's worth the extra time to make the sauce as well.
I'll shut up now, you do you. Good luck if you have a crack yourself.

    Ingredients
▢1 chicken stock cube / bouillon cube (sub 2 tsp powder) (Note 1)
▢1 beef stock cube / bouillon cube (sub 2 tsp powder) (Note 1)
    ▢2 1/4 cups (565ml) boiling water
    ▢60g/ 4 tbsp butter , unsalted
▢4 tbsp flour , plain / all purpose
▢1/2 tsp onion powder (ok to omit or sub garlic powder)
▢1/4 tsp finely ground black pepper
    ▢Salt , if needed

    Instructions
Crumble cubes into boiling water, mix to dissolve.
Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
Add flour, onion powder and pepper. Mix into butter with a wooden spoon or whisk.
While stirring, slowly pour in half the liquid. Once incorporated into the flour butter roux (it will thicken quickly), add remaining liquid and mix.
Stir for 1.5 – 2 minutes until it thickens to a gravy consistency (it's quick as water is already hot). Taste, add more salt and pepper if needed.
Serve over chops, steak, sausages, veggies, roast chicken, pork, beef, lamb.

If you can spare ten minutes, I recommend this recipe

I grew up in a household where everything was thickened with corn flour. I'm so glad that, as an adult, I learned how to make a roux. It's the way to make all kinds of good sauces and something that seemingly can't be replicated by 'instant' products from the supermarket (and kind of bechamel/veloute/gravy).

  • Gravy is one of the easiest and quickest things ever to make. Hell, you can even make a gravy with literally just 3 ingredients which is butter, flour and water and you got yourself the base of a gravy.

Learn how to make it and thank yourself for your whole life because you don't need to buy overpriced gravy mix anymore.

  • Temporarily out of stock.

  • Read on for all those devastated by the Gravox “Our best gravy” being discontinued.

    1. Looks like they were bought out in the UK and renamed

    2. It’s stil made in and shipped from the UK

    4. Haven’t seen it at Woolworths yet.

Note: this is the best gravy EVER, and it kinda does rival homemade……
