That's a change, importing chinese iphones into Australia

    • -2

Most if not all iPhones are made by Chinese tho Apple started production in India, it will take a while to see Indian iPhones coming to Australia.

  • +9

    No FaceTime audio, lol wtf.

    • +2

At least you get video so you can do sign language 👍

    • It's a grey import from china.

  • +2

Would have been a deal at $999 - No eSIM FaceTime is huge disadvantage
Price Match at Officeworks with Costco $1,249 and your getting AU phone, warranty for $1,188

    • Exactly. Officeworks price beat on Costco still the best option

    • +1

Showing $1450 and OOS except green. Am I missing anything?
      https://www.costco.com.au/Electronics/Mobile-Phones/iPhones/…

      • put on a case and problem solved.

        • Consider reselling in the future, green will hold less value I think.

          • @bcYield: Wrong. Still the same if you sell to websites like greengadgets.

            • @hawkeye93: Do greengadgets offer good values in the first place? I know some 2nd market sites only offer a fraction and that they can resell in affordable prices.

          • @bcYield: Iphones hold value no matter the color. It will certainly hold value better than having no eSIM no FaceTime.

            • -1

@jpeg-jpg: Not sure for others, I personally don't use FaceTime and start to use eSim only cuz of free Sim from Boost. For most people, dual physical Sims should cover their needs. When I look for a used phone online, I still choose the colour I want. Hence, I assume less fav colours are sold less either new or used. I could be wrong.

  • Interestingly not using the official product phots either. Images look like a knockoff.

  • +1

    nice. dual nano sim. =)

  • +3

You take my warning not to buy these if e-sim is needed. Other potential (profanity) ups include no FaceTime, no upgrade to AI built-in iOS 18, just name a few.
Personally a serious no for Chinese models. Not racism but insisting to have a complete iPhone.

    • -3

First this is the international model based on the description and not the Chinese model. Don't know what brings the misleading to the comment sections. Second even Chinese models are complete iPhones. Why not? Remember iPhones had been sold the most in China. Last "not racism" but you link this to Chinese when there is no mention of any Chinese on the product page at all.

Your neg tells you are so wrong.

      • +2

Import only 1 year of warranty. Aus stock 2 years.

        • -3

1 year by Kogan. Doesn't state of Apple. So, I'm not sure.

          • +1

@bcYield: Only aussie stock have 2 years of warranty. Kogan import only 1 year. So that’s a big con.

            • @hawkeye93: Just wonder if Apple in Australia rejects any kind of supports and warranty for import iPhones? I have no experience of that. I thought you could take an Apple product to anywhere in the world, of course with limited support based on the country.

              • @bcYield: again for the 2nd year of warranty, it's only applicable to Aussie model.

      • Make some research you can soon identify which model are these. People including myself are caring enough to pre-warn people not to buy something they potentially don’t know about, in this case quite a few important functions that we use day to day as well as on the go won’t be included in the product. You should accept the truth and help to alert people from buying without knowing important information, not judge people being unfair to a country where iPhones get removed/blocked for very specific reasons where is not the focus here.
My apology if my wording made you uncomfortable.

        • The title and description do say import product and international version. I'm making comments based on that. If you have something/source/link to add, you are welcome. However, I just want to point out this is not Chinese version as stated and even the Chinese version is not cheaper either from what I know.

There may be more Chinese people living in Australia than you think. They might don't mind this version and don't care of the missing functionalities.

          • @bcYield: The reference you've been asked for. https://support.apple.com/en-au/109318, where goes

[… the list including iPhone 15…]
The iPhone models listed above, purchased in China mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, can use two physical SIM cards.

I wish you stop mis-leading by saying Chinese users don't care the missing functionalities. All users deserve fully functional iPhones, this becomes more true when you travel. One example would be when you travel to Japan, Chinese versions make you physically in a tele store to buy relatively expensive sims with limited choice of data tariffs. On the other side, other iPhone version owners bought cheap travel esims online among thousands of choices and comparison pre-aboard the airplane. True story from close friends.

Let alone broken facetime, SOS on accident, and importantly, from iOS18, Apple will load AI into the OS and it identifies SN of product to BLOCK this from functioning with Chinese models, regardless who you are, where are you using them from. ref: https://www.sohu.com/a/785226418_217431 (please help yourself with a translator if you dont understand Chinese)

            • @benjaminv: I’ll no longer respond to this. I tried explaining all I can. If you do not mind all the limitations and feel the price difference justifies then this can be a not bad deal.

            • @benjaminv: Since Kogan doesn't state the model number, I can ask but not sure if I need. Assuming you are right about the version, they are still complete iPhone, right? selling at full price in the country.

I wish you stop mis-leading by saying Chinese users don't care the missing functionalities.

I said they might don't mind. Please read Tzy comment below as a reference.

All users deserve fully functional iPhones

They do. Some prefer to save money in exchange. While some only use their iPhones to make phone calls. If you chase these functions, this deal is not for you.

I've read that news in English before. Chinese is my 2nd language so I'm fine for a quick scan without a translator. You know lots of political reasons behind the bans and the drop of iPhones users in China. Chinese started to switch over to China brands now. China tech is not that behind anymore.

The deal is expired anyway. Thanks anyway for sharing. Tho I'm not buying this. I'm a pixel user. Still can't justify myself to go back to iPhone yet.

  • +1

Why would you buy this grey import with no local support when there's plenty of Aus stock at hundreds of Aus stores?

    • -1

Any deal/link close to this price? Not too sure but I thought Apple provided support for their products. Tho, I don't see many Apple stores close to me anyway. Just hope the phone would last as long as expected from an iPhone if I were to buy one.

Green still available. Price beat st OW and pay by gift card. Much much better than import lmao.

        • -1

$1,449 - $1179 = $271 difference and you have to stick to green colour and go through 2 hoops and assume Officeworks won't reject due to Costco requires membership. Let's say 5% PB + 10% GC brings it down to $1239. Paying $60 extra + some extra effort to get local stock is not bad. But not a good option for those who live far away from OW.

          • @bcYield: OW price beats Costco easily. I got my 15PM using this way. Pay over $1500 for it.

          • @bcYield: $60 to get local stock with extra year of warranty, completely worth it. 🤣

            • -1

@hawkeye93: No if you live far away from OW 🫠

              • @bcYield: can always price beat over the phone.

                • -1

@hawkeye93: And pay with gift cards over the phone? No?

Some reasons on one posted it yet.

                  • @bcYield: either way, the saving is not worth the sacrifice of 2nd year of warranty.

                    • -1

@hawkeye93: I can understand the extra year warranty is important to some people while some of them pay extra for the another extra year.

To me and Tzy below, it's better to save $100. A new iPhone won't disappoint me and Apple store won't say no for the support I believe.

                      • @bcYield: Support only for first year. Beyond that, they don’t care.

                        • @hawkeye93: If you are sure of that, I will bite it as I am not a full iOS user anymore and my iPhone 7 never taken me to the Apple store once yet.

      • +1

There is so much more to value than price.

  • +2

Just a precaution for those planning to rely on the SOS function on these for hiking/backpacking, it might not work on these models.

I don’t own one to test, but just thought I’ll caution others.

    • it might not work on these models.

If this isn't based on first-hand experience, then what?

      • +1

Not everything needs to be based off first hand experience. My original statement is just a precaution for unsuspecting buyer’s based off this reddit post.

        • +1

Not everything needs to be based off first hand experience.

          I know, hence my question.

I wasn't aware this feature even existed, pretty cool and something I would consider for my next smartphone upgrade.

  • Well not judging on everyone’s comment.
I’d perfer dual physical sim iPhone. I picked up mine in HKG and bought 2 for family.
Pro: HKG iphones can do FaceTime. I can pick any carrier, ditch sims in every couple of months for better value. And so easy when travelling overseas.
Con: different frequencies compare to au stock , but I don’t feel any difference when using.
1 year warranty, well I personally don’t really care
I never had any issue when buying new, modern iPhone quality is superb.
FaceTime audio isn’t available in CHN iPhone, I never use this anyway, I can do FaceTime Video anyway.
I guess AUS iPhones isn’t superior
