Is this a pro or con?
Con for me. Owned both usb c and non usb c
Usb c getting super frustrating to use. Constant flickering when connected to my macbook air m1
Non usb c model has had no issue so far.
I agreed that
I have this one so good so far but I will buy Usb-c If I want to buy again
Also noticed the non usb c one is brighter and clearer… source: have both side by side.
You've got it mixed up with another model. The S2721QS is really old (from 2020) and doesn't have USB C. It also suffers from the infamous flickering screen problem when connected to M1 series MacBooks.
Integrated usb hub with 65w power delivery for extra $30 seems like a no brainer.
Is there a 34” version of this?
Essentially 4K or QHD, followed by thunderbolt usb c with 65W power delivery.
Is this the cheapest 4k monitor ever… that is a reputable brand? It seems like it, usually they are around $400 on sale.
Edit: You might need to buy some sort of adapter/spacer to do any mountingIt has vesa mounts (100mm * 100mm).
But has no USB-C connection, a real con.
Yea, I read that afterward, but you still need to buy spacers etc to make it work with the cheap/reasonable mounts.
Also why do people want USB-c connection? You can print a USB hub from your computer over to where you monitors are. Or are you saying you want to connect to the monitor by USB c? If that is the case, just get the kenji adapter for $10 from officeworks. It works perfectly (not sure what resolution the adapter allows)
One line that takes video, usb hub and power delivery back to the laptop makes my desktop much neater.
Really like that
No this guy is https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/849696
Thats used though. This is new.
They did sell new stock too for about $199.
Depends on what you’re after. The Samsung 32” UHD Viewfinity S70A can be found for $310 at the moment. I negotiated in store and snapped one up for $295. It’s a VA panel though vs the IPS on this Dell.
https://www.umart.com.au/product/lg-27in-uhd-ips-4k-60hz-amd… = $299 at the moment.
No USB C port.
Mine started flickering after a few month, especially when viewing reddit. Had to do reconditioning afterwards. Seems pretty common.
And it randomly turns black and comes back up again. Changed a few cables but didn’t fix it. S2721Q does the same.
Had a similar issue with mine, ended up reaching out to Dell technical support and getting a replacement under warranty (when it was still under warranty).
If you already have a dock could you not just connect monitor via HDMI? Does that still cause the flickering issue?
I have mine on a USB-C to HDMI cable, it works perfectly and no flickering. The monitor quality is on par with Apple.
You can get the refurbished one for $249
Sold out, I think you OzBargained it.
dammit. I had this in my cart this morning at 02:00 but waited until I could discuss with SOH. Then forgot….came back this afternoon and all gone :|. https://www.umart.com.au/product/lg-27in-uhd-ips-4k-60hz-amd… <- Got this instead.
Just got back here and was saddened to see sold out. Thanks for the other alternative!
I bought two in the 2022 deal and have been using them for many hours a day ever since. I've had no issues with them at all, very happy.
Don't know why you got negged. Here is my vote.
I'm running an s2721QS from several years ago. No issues, although I am not using USB-C, I am running it through a HDMI cable. It's my main monitor and I've become accustomed to 4k 27".
I am keen to upgrade to a 32" 4k oled, but I don't think my use case (90% productivity, 10% gaming) makes it worthwhile :(
I echo your sentiment to stay away from oled for productivity.
I actually have the 32 (and owned the first gen 34) and it looks worse then my 34 from 2015 imo (for non gaming use)
I’m on the hunt for the perfect productivity solution and I’m actually surprised at how much worse things to be now..
I bought all of my Dells from around 2020 and 2021.
I'm surprised at all the problems people are talking about now and I hope the two new Dells for another WFH setup won't experience such issues.
There seems to be a lot of confusion over these. This one the S2721QS does not have USB.
The S2721QC - note the C in the model number, has USB-C connectivity.
If I'm not mistaken you're referring to the S2722QC, that's the one with the built-in USB C functionality.
Gah! You are correct. S2722QC. Wrong digit! The key thing is the C in the PN#.
I had a couple of these displays. They have just been a pain. I had to send them back for repairs twice in 24 months and ending up returning to Dell. They were nice enough to give me money back. I would never recommend this model. The issues including flickering, not booting up and restarting. I was using MBP and Dell said it might be due to the MacOS but it did the same for my Windows laptop. So it's a big no for me.
Same experience. Bought two of these and both have developed severe flickering after less than a year. Used entirely on Windows, for Dell to suggest that's it's the OS causing it is bonkers, they both flicker with no inputs plugged in.
The price seems to be reduced to $299.20 when you toggle the display size and comeback to 27'' again.
Different model #
gotcha
Choose 4k
$299 is 2K not 4K
Considering this or the S2725DS. I don't think I can see 4K text on a 27 inch all that well. Text will probably be too small. Just wondering if the picture will be clearer with the 4K monitor scaled to 2K or do I just stick with the 2K monitor. Mostly office work and slow moving games like Vic and World of Warships
Have two of these flanking a S2721D in the middle.
Old eyes mean I need reading glasses these days, but prefer to have these monitors at back of big desk with scale increased in the desktop settings, so I can see everything in bigger font sizes without the need to use specs.
Works fine for me and arguably the 4K monitors look a bit cleaner, but honestly at that distance not much in it between 2K or 4K.
Looks like better speakers and goes to 100Hz on the S2725DS, but power consumption, inputs etc., otherwise look very similar.
Thanks - Can't justify getting two S2725DS. Plus then I'd have to get a bigger desk :-) (which also means I'd have to get a bigger home office to fit the desk)
I was able to use one of the codes as well.
Meant that I have two S2721QS flanking one S2721D in the middle for about 3 years now, with no dramas from scaling.
This is a WFH setup so 60Hz doesn't bother me and honestly doubt I'd notice the difference with 100Hz.
EIther way, 2K or 4K with appropriate scaling for about the same price would suit most home office needs. 4K might just edge 2K out if viewing a lot of videos and maybe just subtle difference in fine clairty even at scaled sizes.
Speakers on S2721QS are more than adequate for video calls, the odd video, but I also have a USB DAC connected to decent stereo setup if I ever need better audio anyway. 2 x 5W speakers on S2725DS likely to be markedly better but still not going to replace a decent soundbar, powered speakers or amp if you need higher quality sound or greater levels of amplification.
I don't think I can see 4K text on a 27 inch all that well. Text will probably be too small.
That's why you use display scaling. Hasn't been an issue for over 10 years now, all major OSs support it — set the scaling to 125% or 150%, or your own completely custom scale factor. It's what delivers ultra-sharp, highly readable text — that's the advantage the 4K resolution gives you.
I have the 32-inch model of this, and there is a consistent flickering issue with Macbook Pros - very, very mild for Intel-based but very severe for M1 (for me) and I believe also M2 and M3-based devices too. It particularly occurs when much of the screen content is dark (e.g. watching a dark movie, the flickering is extremely common)
I contacted Dell for support and they told me the monitor did not support Macs.
The problem is not unique to Dell, but seems to be particularly common on Dell monitors - even some of the USB-C connected ones.
This thread on MacRumors is interesting and relevant: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/m1-m2-flickering-ghosti…(For a Mac, I'd steer clear of Dell monitors altogether at this point)
this one has USB-c hub tho
