Amazon Prime Day Discussion (16-21 July, 2024)

Amazon has announced the dates for its Prime Day event. Launches July 16 at 00:01am AEST. Stay safe, and enjoy 😊

SYDNEY – 25 June, 2024 – Amazon Australia has announced dates for its flagship Prime Day event, with hundreds of thousands of products set to be discounted across six entire days. From 16 July at 00:01AM AEST through to 21 July, Prime Members will be able to score low prices across all categories including electronics, home and kitchen wares, Amazon devices, everyday essentials, beauty, video games, books, toys, clothes and shoes and more.

New deals will drop throughout the six-day sales event, with savings on leading brands like Apple, Bose, Bonds, de'Longhi, Dyson, Finish, Instant Pot, Lego, Meta, Miele, The North Face, Panasonic, Philips, Quilton, Samsonite, Samsung, Sony and Tommy Hilfiger. Small and medium-sized Australian owned businesses will also feature in the sale event including the Sydney-based pet accessory business Dog Friendly Co. and Melbourne based non-alcoholic cocktail brand, Naked Life Spirits.

The event arrives at the perfect time for those looking to make their money go further, with new research commissioned by Amazon Australia showing that many Australians are planning to buy Christmas gifts earlier than usual to cut costs. Remarkably, over 70% of Australians who will be buying Christmas presents this year said they would purchase them in July if substantial discounts were offered.

Research commissioned by Amazon Australia also shows four in five (84%) Australians say they wait for items to go on sale before making a purchase, with clothing, tech, and appliances being the most common items they hold out for. Prime Day also coincides perfectly with the mid-year tax return period, as two-thirds of Aussie shoppers are waiting for their tax refund to arrive before spending.

Arno Lenior, Director of Amazon Prime across APAC said, “We are thrilled to be bringing our longest ever Prime Day to Australia this year, giving shoppers more time to unlock great value. Aussies are savvier than ever when it comes to spending, with two in three waiting for marquee sales events to make big ticket purchases and we look forward to offering them incredible discounts. We encourage shoppers to start thinking about what they need or want and building out wishlists so that come Prime Day, they are ready.”

Customers who have not tried Prime can unlock a 30-day free trial at amazon.com.au/prime to participate in Amazon Prime Day and to unlock the many year-round benefits, including fast, free and convenient delivery on eligible orders. From day one of membership, members in eligible postcodes will have access to free delivery on millions of local and international Prime eligible items, with FREE next-day delivery on eligible items for Prime members in Brisbane, Geelong, Gosford, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney and Wollongong; access to Amazon Original series and films on Prime Video; access to 100 million songs ad-free in shuffle mode with Amazon Music and more.

  • Same as last year. Laundry liquid.

Cringe sale, not even paper towels…

  • This seems to be a bargain at $821.60 for Prime Members https://www.amazon.com.au/CORSAIR-XENEON-27QHD240-27-Inch-Mo…

3Camels say cheapest has been $1024.13, staticice prices currently $1549

So seems like a bargain for an Oled 27" 1440P Monitor

    • It's very low PPI (like 27" at 1080p level) and low brightness. Rated at 7.2 for office work, which eliminates the point of the bendy gimmick. Shame.

  • +3

Inflated prices and no good selection, crappy sale

  • Well…that was… not worth waiting for! 1.3% off!

    GO PRIME! 🤣

  • +16

    And the crowd goes mild!

  • +5

Majority of deal descriptions starting with 'not the cheapest'..

  • +5

Was holding off on a few purchases in the off chance there would be some good prices. basically unless you are after an Amazon specific device this is about as good as the pathetic "click Frenzy". Guess I won't be getting anything this year.

  • Is it just me, or is it impossible to check previous Amazon prices through Camel3?

For those items that are nominally in the sale, but I do know the price, it seems to be basically the same price levels as they have reached at previous times.

    • I checked one item (a switch) on CCC and it had a history, but the current Prime sale price is a common price every month (also found the same deals on OzB history too).

Another item in Prime sale had no history, but still seems to be a good price compared to RRP.

  • A couple of friends and I bought the multitool that was $40. It had been $67 on Amazon for a few weeks and $80-$120 in Australian outdoor stores.

  • Can anyone recommend any of the bluetooth headphone adaptors for in-flight use?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/s?k=bluetooth+plane+adaptor&rh=p_8…

    Cheers!

  • Ahhh, was hoping to grab another one of those awesome Minisforum PCs but the same config I got for my sister and mother is $150 more expensive than it was back in October last year…

    Inflation is crazy!

  • Anyone know what the best robot vacuum/mop is for under $400, trying to find a bargain for prime day

  • +2

Surprise surprise, the sales prices are the same as every other day except for the week before Prime Day.

  • +3

    Very disappointing so far.

  • +19

Didn't Kogan get in trouble for exactly what Amazon is doing with prime day. Where all the prices are increased on the discount day and then marked as discounted when in reality it's just discounting to the normal price or slightly below the normal price in order to make it look like a better deal than it is

    • Yes…. kogan, eBay, Amazon…

  • +11

ozbargainers compare prime day prices to the lowest price an item has ever been, other people compare it to RRP. No way any of us would be satisfied.

    • True that. It's a blessing and a curse

      • +2

definitely a blessing. Think the latter (comparison to RRP) suggests some brain damage.

    • +4

I don't compare to lowest price, I do compare it to the regular sale prices. If they aren't at least better than the regular sale price then it is just pointless marketing day which is what it seems.

  • Was hoping for a switch lite deal, nothing

  • Somehow the sale prices are worse than last week's sale. What a pitiful prime day sale.

  • +3

ATL for worst Prime day ever ?

  • Any wireless headphones to recommend?

  • Come on, give me a good Lumix deal :(

  • I have about 20 or so items in my Amazon 'shopping list' that I have just been monitoring to potentially buy at some point in time but for which I was in no rush so was holding off in case Prime Day sales reduced any of them.

Nothing I was watching has gone down but several of them have definitely increased in price!

Suppose things might change later in the week but my initial reaction echoes the sentiments shared here that its all a bit meh and a non-event once again.

Awesome Amazon Prime sale, not a single thing I want to buy, saved a tonne of money in the process, Thx Amazon! 😜👍

  • +4

Bunch of stuff on my watchlist is at all time low.
The sale is kinda good, kinda bad, depending on the random stuff we're watching.
The negative comments are the same as every year.
    ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • What sorta stuff is ATL?

      • -1

Nothing specific, you'll find stuff in every Amazon category.
I don't know how their algorithm works but sometimes it lines up with what you're after.

        • +1

Yeah okay, finding some okay deals but nothing more than a usual day really and certainly not ATLs

          • +1

@snoopydoop: Fair enough. I picked up some graphic novels, 4K movies, vinyl, toys that I had been watching for a while (some since they were released).

  • Does anyone else from a regional area notice a lot of deals aren't available to them? I've noticed this prime day I can't get the price for a lot of the deals posted, whereas if set my address to the nearest capital city they're available again. I don't believe I've ran into this before.

    • +4

I saw on another post if you set your postcode to a capital city then at checkout change your address it'll work. Haven't tested though.

      EDIT: Here:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15344289/redir

      • Legend thanks! will give this a go.

    • Yeah, same. Disappointing.

I kinda understand this from their POV, it's what happens when you offer free post on shit that is going to be expensive to post. Rather than take the hit, they lie to say it's not available/out-of-stock.

Just another reason I'm letting the Prime sub lapse.

  • +2

Pass… none of the items I added to my wishlist went down in price

  • +3

Such a poor show for today

I hope Jeff sees this discussion

    • nek minnit after reading Ozbargain: Jeff B shuts down Amazon

  • Can anyone recommend a solid keyboard? Ideally for both gaming/work. Work from home so the switches aren't an issue in terms of sound

  • Hope the uncapped cashback offers return, they seem to be the best deal so far

  • +3

Wishlisted a bunch of stuff a couple weeks ago. Watched it all drastically increase in price before going on sale. Prices still above deals available elsewhere, particularly for SSD's.

What a joke, if not outright illegal.

  • I hope there is a variable dumbbell set on sale :D

  • +2

Is it just me or is there an utter lack of sales on GPUs that are not piles of crap? US prime day appears to at least have some reduced,

  • I still haven't found anything to buy with my $20 $59 spend for joining prime, no deals, just meh discounts

  • I'll just grab my ration of cocobella.

  • +8

PSA: Not a Prime member and buying something from Amazon where your cart total is under the $59 threshold for free delivery? You can still get it delivered for just $0.30! Simply sign up to Prime, buy your item(s) and take advantage of Prime's free expedited delivery. Once you've paid for your items, you can simply cancel your Prime membership—making sure you opt to end your benefits immediately—and you'll get a $9.69 refund of your membership.

Perfect for those who don't need the other associated benefits of Prime and don't purchase from Amazon regularly.

  • 5 bags of candy was all I got.

  • +2

What happened to the Quilton toilet paper price! This is the main thing I use to justify my Amazon prime membership!

  • +2

Pretty weak this year. I only bought bare essentials.

  • ECOVACS DEEBOT N8 Robot Vacuum Cleaner - $299 - ATL

Looking for pantry items and video games. There's just nothing on sale though. I have a little bit of money to spend but I can't find anything.

I thought last years prime day was bad, this years is shocking.

  • Grabbed the Corsair RAM 32Gb CL30 earlier in the sale but that's about it really.

    Lacklustre sales…

  • +1

Had the chance to make prime day just as big like black friday, it's now worse then boxing day sales.

  • Yes not a lot of 'great' deals for stuff I wanted - but I'm pretty chuffed to get a SteelSeries New Apex 9 TKL for $148. The old Das can retire to the pool room (I think it's ~13 years old).

  • Only four left, but seems cheap. Needed a magsafe stand for travel and this fits the bill, plus charges too!

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0CY5CZ5QC

  • got some oral B brush heads, scrub daddy, some columbia hiking shoes, an ND filter and a gorilla style mini tripod. didnt spend much really and the things i really wanted werent discounted

  • Really average sale. Nothing to make me launch. Nothing to feel like its special once a year member only price. Nothing lasts forever mr bond.

  • Has anyone noticed that after a deal expires, you still get the deal price if the item is already in your cart? Just happened to me where the price on the listing doubled on a couple of items, but I was able to put the order through and still get the deal price.

    • I just keep getting deal unavailable. There was a cowboy bebop vinyl I had in my cart for two days, went to check out last night and its gone back to full price :(.

      • Maybe what happens is if the specific country Amazon (UK, US, DE, AU) runs out of stock, it switches to another country and the price is up. But if the deal just ends but there's still stock in that country then the cart price stays the same. For a while anyway.

    • Yes I had noticed that previously, I am not sure how long it stays at that price for, it's at least 15 minutes.

      • I had one item stay at the prime day price for at least 10 hours after someone commented that it had expired for them, but didn’t have any others items in my cart to compare.

        • I have the shears from this deal in my cart and it looks like it will still let me buy it at the Prime Day price. That was marked expired 11am yesterday. I'll leave it there and see when it goes back up.

          • @Mostly Fanless: I think that one was a lightning deal rather than a prime day deal as I added it to my cart yesterday morning after prime day ended but then changed my mind due to them not being German made.

  • +2

So there goes $600 in 6 days..
