Amazon Prime Day Discussion (16-21 July, 2024)

Amazon has announced the dates for its Prime Day event. Launches July 16 at 00:01am AEST. Stay safe, and enjoy 😊

SYDNEY – 25 June, 2024 – Amazon Australia has announced dates for its flagship Prime Day event, with hundreds of thousands of products set to be discounted across six entire days. From 16 July at 00:01AM AEST through to 21 July, Prime Members will be able to score low prices across all categories including electronics, home and kitchen wares, Amazon devices, everyday essentials, beauty, video games, books, toys, clothes and shoes and more.

New deals will drop throughout the six-day sales event, with savings on leading brands like Apple, Bose, Bonds, de'Longhi, Dyson, Finish, Instant Pot, Lego, Meta, Miele, The North Face, Panasonic, Philips, Quilton, Samsonite, Samsung, Sony and Tommy Hilfiger. Small and medium-sized Australian owned businesses will also feature in the sale event including the Sydney-based pet accessory business Dog Friendly Co. and Melbourne based non-alcoholic cocktail brand, Naked Life Spirits.

The event arrives at the perfect time for those looking to make their money go further, with new research commissioned by Amazon Australia showing that many Australians are planning to buy Christmas gifts earlier than usual to cut costs. Remarkably, over 70% of Australians who will be buying Christmas presents this year said they would purchase them in July if substantial discounts were offered.

Research commissioned by Amazon Australia also shows four in five (84%) Australians say they wait for items to go on sale before making a purchase, with clothing, tech, and appliances being the most common items they hold out for. Prime Day also coincides perfectly with the mid-year tax return period, as two-thirds of Aussie shoppers are waiting for their tax refund to arrive before spending.

Arno Lenior, Director of Amazon Prime across APAC said, “We are thrilled to be bringing our longest ever Prime Day to Australia this year, giving shoppers more time to unlock great value. Aussies are savvier than ever when it comes to spending, with two in three waiting for marquee sales events to make big ticket purchases and we look forward to offering them incredible discounts. We encourage shoppers to start thinking about what they need or want and building out wishlists so that come Prime Day, they are ready.”

Customers who have not tried Prime can unlock a 30-day free trial at amazon.com.au/prime to participate in Amazon Prime Day and to unlock the many year-round benefits, including fast, free and convenient delivery on eligible orders. From day one of membership, members in eligible postcodes will have access to free delivery on millions of local and international Prime eligible items, with FREE next-day delivery on eligible items for Prime members in Brisbane, Geelong, Gosford, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney and Wollongong; access to Amazon Original series and films on Prime Video; access to 100 million songs ad-free in shuffle mode with Amazon Music and more.

Did anyone else read this in Morgan Freeman's voice?

        • +2

Ron Howard (Arrested Development narrator) for me.

  • +34

The last one seemed to be quite underwhelming. Hopefully this is better and fills in the gap till Black Friday…

    • +29

Don't have your hopes high. I have generally found Amazon Australia Sale events like Prime days to be a totally dud with the only products that are actually on a considerable discount being amazon products themselves like Ring, Eero, Echo, Fire Stick and all other crap which anyways get discounted every now and then.

      • Sometimes we get stuff from other regions that is priced well enough. That being said you are right on the money.

    • +2

last one was so shhhhhhht lol

  • +9

They should just extend it a couple of days more and call it 'Prime Week'.

    • +36

At six days, it practically is a Prime Week now. I must prefer when it was actually Prime Day, or even two days. Don't have time to wade through all the daily underwhelming non-deals for six days.

      • Actually, yeah. 6 days…duh. And if you count the int'l warehouses that will probably still be in 'Prime Day' after the Australian site has wound it up - there we have a week.

      • +2

nahhh yeaaa not good taking 6 sickies in one go

    • +38

Maybe they're worried that if the sales isn't good, people will start calling it "Prime Weak"

      • +5

        Weak Prime?

    • +1

Prime business week + 1 day

  • +43

I expect nothing and I’ll still be disappointed

(In b4 the ‘just like your misso’ comments)

    • +2

      I feel the same way

      Alternatively,
expect disappointing and it’s still nothing.

    • +7

      just like your misso heheheh

    • ex misso

    • 40 upvotes might just turn that frown upside down

  • +6

On Amazon Prime Day, the best deals usually are from Bunnings.

    • +2

      Can you elaborate?

      • +3

Bunnings tends to price match some prime deals and aldi for that matter

  • +8

This is usually a disappointment no?

Can't remember it ever being good unless you really want an Amazon Echo/Fire TV Stick or something, maybe a Kindle.

    • +3

i guess to be fair , sometimes the usual suspects much loved by ozbargain are sometimes a few % cheaper with lightning deals during the promo period etc

eg iniu charger, tomtoc sling bag (ESHAYYYYY!!!!) , meross smart plugs etc

    • +2

I wanted a pair of those $65 Celestron Outland binoculars last year and there was plenty of stock but I still missed out.

  • +1

My spending budget is low… after EOFY

  • +3

Hoping for a decent kindle pw deal!

  • +1

Has anyone had success price matching with OW on Prime Day? Asking because they may say its Prime only.

  • +1

Have always found Amazon sales events to be a totally dud. Have no hopes on this one either. Amazon does actual sales events in other countries but when it comes to Australia its just name sake. Its like they are sure even if they don't offer any value with these sales people are still going to continue with their subscription even if they increase the subscription fee significantly.

  • After watch deals

  • Kindle is on sale today, is there a chance it'll be discounted further or is that not how the prime week works?

    • I hope so.

20% is pretty disappointing, I swear it was like 40% last year and but I held off

  • +11

Amazon devices, Bosch green tools, Oculus headsets, gibberish named tech brand products on sale but not at all time lows - usually cheaper on Aliexpress anyway and everyone's favorite - years old tech presented as a bargain high % off. A few OK deals sprinkled in as lightning deals which are unobtainium. Amazon's gone way down hill.

  • +4

It seems a lot of disappointment when these sales comes around.
I wonder what it takes to satisfy the OzB community?

    • +10

what it takes to satisfy the OzB community?

      Dell monitor deals only.

      • Stick Alienware on top and we may even sneak a quickie.

    • +17

The deals should be for the exact things I want, the stock should be plentiful, and the discounts should be >90%

      • +2

        That’s the spirit!

    • Actual deals.

    • Enelopes

  • Hope for sub $300 for baby jogger city tour 2.

  • +3

I'm hoping for a meta quest 3 deal

    • Me too I am looking for a meta quest 3. I tried to buy one through Meta and they cancelled my order and wouldn’t process my order and suggested I use amazon to purchase

    • $100 off, $699 for the basic bundle.

      • tempting. I was hoping for the 512gb version. but at least the 128gb version is reduced.

  • Nothing worth mentioning this year. Looks like Amazon got the market don't care any more

    • +9

      Nothing worth mentioning this year.

      It starts tomorrow!

      • Yeah highly doubt any good deals

  • Hopefully some good watch deals (looking for Casio Duro)

  • +9

  • I already bought 2 kipling bags.
On look out for Columbia clothing and more kipling bags.

I am not interested in any of the eletronics.

Maybe lumix camera and lens. Or some sd cards. But thats about it.

  • +1

I'm after oculus quest 3 let's hope it goes on sale

  • +11

Swear the deals get worse and worse every year

    • +5

So true! Each one of us also gets older and crankier each year. I wonder whether there's a correlation there.

  • +4

    Can't find anything good….

  • +6

Surprise surprise, nothing but crap straight out of the gate.

Edit: to be fair, i could save $2.60 on a phone case.
    Woweee

  • +1

Wow, I’ve never been more underwhelmed in my life.

    • +1

      That's what she said.

      • +7

Ha! Thats apparently how my wife describes me to her boyfriend.

  • +12

Had a bunch of things in my cart. A few of them increased in price after the sale started. Thanks Jeff.

    • Yeah I had my eye on some UltraLoq stuff and I swear the prices are higher now.

  • +12

amazon must have spent the entire budget advertising the prime day instead of on actual sales

  • +1

Wait, some stores are showing Prime Day sales with up to 25% off but the prices are still the same.

  • So when do the deals start?…… /s

  • It’s like prime day hasn’t started.. I’ve bought nothing..

  • +1

First prime day I haven't walked away with anything. Pantry offerings pretty crap, usually some soft drink and/or essentials deals. Nonesuch, in fact lots of stuff above colesworth sale prices.

  • +2

Best deal I have found is some bin-liners, seems fitting…

  • +1

Does Amazon add new discounts throughout the "prime week", or just what's on the first day?
My tracked items are all same price. Disappointing staying awake for nothing.

  • +2

Weak start to the prime week.

  • +1

In my Amazon cart, it shows more items have increased in price, than decreased.
Did Jeff get the day wrong or something??

    • Nah Jack must live there.

    • platypus usually has some great deals on vans year-round. Depends on what you're looking for though

  • I've had a pretty decent scroll, and have only found a wall charger I wanted, with a fake markdown. Will check books and report back

  • HD560S worth it for $220?

    • No, HD 599 can be had for $100 here
It's certainly a personal preference as to which is best for you, but at that price difference I'd choose the 599. Note the 560S is a newer headphone.

    • +1

Yes that's a good price for them. I own both the 599 and 560s and in my opinion the 560s are far better.

I use them mainly for digital piano and love them because the sound is really open (often check that the sound is actually coming through the headphones). I also love them for gaming you can hear everything with good seperation.

Also they make the 599 feel like a toy quality wise.

(Apologies I am no audiophile but have tried to describe as best I can why they are worth it in my opinion)

      • Thanks, I actually just bought it in Unidays instead for $188 with the promo code so it’s even better.

        • Good price I paid $260 but I wasn't in a position to wait for a sale unfortunately haha

          You'll enjoy them.

  • +2

Only junk so far. Hopefully they start going in the morning.

    • I was about to ask as well, are they always this bad within the first hour.

  • Western Digital 4TB WD Red Plus NAS Internal Hard Drive HDD - 5400 RPM, SATA 6 Gb/s, CMR, 256 MB Cache, 3.5" -WD40EFPX
    $127

    Not the best price ever.

  • Was hoping for a discount on the new echo spots but no such luck

Even the echo dots with clock seem to be discontinued

  • +5

I thought it was disappointing last year - I think they set a new lower bar

  • +1

    Lol there is nothing

  • +1

Was too slow checking out my cart with the VIVA Paper Towel Select-A-Size Paper Towel (4x3 Rolls) for $13.50 and it then increased to $20.25. All within a 30min span (12:00 to 12:30am)! What the heck.

  • Nappies and headphones. Anything after this is a bonus
