They delivery guys recycle the TV.
When I asked them what they do with all the trade in TV's, they told me they send them to the tip at the end of delivery round. So you can even trade in an old 20" monitor

      Need an ".edu.au" email address
Your normal Samsung account will be authorized, by sending a verification to the .edu.au address.
I believe it lasts 12 months and then you need to re-verify.

    • It's only $800 though, what other 55" would you recommend for $800?

Edit. Sorry I should have read the article, they say Hisense U8K and the TCL QM8 are competitors. They don't seem to be readily available in Australia though, and not at $800.

Hmm… Might be a good size for multitasking hooking it up to the PC and occasionally gaming.

    • I have a shield TV pro with this, cheap and fantastic setup for game streaming.

      • Seems like a much better gaming setup than say buying one of those 34” AW monitors?

        • +1

oh it’s beautiful, ghost of tsushima, ff7 etc. runs beautifully, and you get a decent upscaling with the shield

  • This or should I hunt around on FB marketplace?

I haven’t watched/used/owned a TV in 8+ yrs, so really have no idea what’s good or not. Use case would just be movie watching / potential switch games; no competitive gaming or anything like that. Really is more for when guests come stay with us and will probably be used pretty rarely.

  • I wasn't consider this, but can't beat OLED. Good price for a QLED

  • Definitely considering. This is the best bang for buck high refresh rate TV at this size it seems

  • Hi, how can I get the sound bar at $269.1. It appears at $299 when I added in the bundle

I got this deal through UniDays when the Q70C launched beginning of June.

I needed a TV pretty much exclusively to use with PS5. My only requirement was HDMI 2.1 support (for 4K@120Hz, VRR & ALLM), preferably under $1000 and preferably a good brand (Samsung, LG, Sony, etc).

HDMI 2.0 is 18Gbps, HDMI 2.1 is 48Gbps. The difference is incredible for gaming.

Turns out it’s surprisingly difficult to get an HDMI 2.1 TV for less than $1000. Kogan had the only one I could find (Hisense & TCL were over a grand). Then this Samsung Q70C education deal came along. It’s amazing. 4x HDMI 2.1 ports. All four ports are HDMI 2.1, not just one port. Works incredibly well with PS5. Having HDMI 2.1 (and 4K@120Hz) unlocks additional graphics/rendering modes in many games (Hogwarts Legacy, Rachel & Clank A Rift Apart, many others) that aren’t available over HDMI 2.0.

With HDMI 2.0 you typically only get two rendering modes on PS5, “quality” (targets 30FPS) or “performance” (targets 60FPS) TV manufacturers sometimes claim to support VRR over HDMI2.0 but I’ve never seen this actually work reliably, you either don’t get uncapped frame rates or, when you do, you get a lot of tearing or flickering or both.

The VRR works incredibly well. The uncapped/unlocked/variable frame rates are very smooth. Being 120Hz and HDMI2.1 you typically get multiple locked frame rate options: max settings (ray tracing on) at 30FPS locked, “balanced” (max settings with RT off) at 40FPS locked, “performance” (60 FPS locked) and even “high performance” (120 locked).

I would highly recommend this TV for gaming or anyone who wants a HDMI 2.1 TV with a 4K@120Hz panel.

Several commenters and a couple of reviews have mentioned an apparent lack of brightness. I’m not sure if they actually used their eyeballs or just read the spec sheet to reach this conclusion. Compared to my 5 year old (but much more expensive and high end) LG, this thing is insanely bright. 50 is the maximum brightness setting on this TV and at 50 I would describe it as eyeball-meltingly bright. I use it in the middle of the at 20 brightness. Never more than 25 (50%) or I feel it’s blinding how bright it is.

The only negatives for me are Samsung’s minimalist remote design means many button presses and navigating multiple menus is required to change some basic settings such as brightness (which I frequently need to lower because it seems to default to a high brightness setting) also the remote uses an internal battery, I like to keep my TVs for many years, having a slowly dying and ever shortening lifespan on the remote sucks, compared to just throwing in a fresh set of rechargeable AAAs.

Also, like all modern TVs the speakers are useless and a soundbar is required (if you’re not using headphones).

Final flaw is the blacks are pretty subpar. This isn’t an OLED obviously, but there’s no local dimming so the blacks are quite bright and really more of a grey, even compared to other LED TVs.

I think this is a really good gaming/HDMI 2.1 TV at full price, at 50% off it’s basically a steal. Significantly cheaper than comparable Hisense and TCL models at this price.

    • thank you for the detailed review
