TCL 85 Inch Premium QD-Mini LED 85C855 $2942 Delivered @ Appliances Online

520

A bit more expensive than the HN deal (now expired), but this includes delivery. It seems like there's a 2-3 week wait for delivery. Might be able to price match with somewhere that has stock.

Had a TCL 75" 8k until the display panel malfunctioned 13 months after purchase. Dealing with TCL customer service and the dealer over a period of 4 months for warranty claim is pure hell. They tried to convince me (repeatedly by a number of TCL people, each different of course) that a 4k is an appropriate replacement for a 8k. Anyways, after that saga TCL refunded me 75% of my purchase price and out of that the dealer took a $295 cut. I might have bought a lemon but that experience is enough for me to avoid anything TCL and never buy from Gecko.

For future reference DO NOT deal with the manufacturer only the business that sold you the product even if the business that sold you the TV tells you to contact the manufacturer.

You should have received a replacement or full refund under Australian consumer laws if the product stopped working after 13 months from the business that sold it to you (not the manufacturer).

    • Like Strayan said, always deal with the business instead of the manufacturer. Had TGG try fob off my partners mum to the manufacturer and i kept telling them no it's your problem. They eventually gave a full refund.

This might just be me being lucky but I've had a very different experience from you dealing with TCL warranty claim and customer service. I bought a 85'' C755 in Jan this year. A few months later in April the TV went black with no video only audio. TCl sent a technician to come and check on the TV and confirmed it was a bad panel. They then shortly contacted me to say they'll send a replacement, no questions asked. A few weeks later they called me to follow up, to say they've got no stock, so they'll send me a same sized C855 instead, at no extra cost. And sure enough about 10 days later the new TV arrived and the technician took the old one away and helped me mounted the new one on my TV stand, again with no extra cost.

Effectively I got a newer TV at the same size with no extra cost and the whole process was buttery smooth and painless.

Again I'm just sharing my experience here I don't mean to doubt or question your experience.

      • Sounds reasonable but it shouldn't have taken 3 weeks to determine they had no stock

Yeah, TCL customer service seems terrible. I have an issue (under warranty) with the backlight (TV still works though) and TCL sent a tech, who confirmed to me they could see the issue, and would report it to TCL and see what they wanted to do.

Then no contact from TCL. After many follow ups I got a response saying sorry the TV is out of warranty. Despite the issue being lodged in warranty, and repeated corrections on my behalf.

I lodged it with Fair Trading, and then suddenly TCL produced a report from the Tech saying the TV was fixed, so therefore this was a new issue, and not under warranty. As evidence of it being fixed, they included the pic the tech took that showed the issue.

All this back and forth is fast approaching a year now, so I am asking for a refund. TCL still refuses so next step is lodging in small claims. What a waste of time…

Extra annoying is that I want to buy a C855 but really really don't want go with TCL again.

Try to get a warranty from Yobbo Gerry!
They tell me that they love to sell faulty products in their culture.
Fun fact: ACCC had to shut down their Launceston store because of warranty refusal.

  • Has there ever been a tv model quite like the c855? Released for a month or so, slips in and out of sales on a day to day basis. I'm thinking stock isn't moving even close to as expected. Going to be cheap by Black Friday…

    • +2

I think TCL as a brand name is perceived as too low quality by most Australian consumers for them to justify paying anything other than rock bottom prices regardless of how good the TV is.

    • +1

      huh?
Jb Hi Fi has all these newer models on heavy discounts (Lg C4, Samsung s90d, bravia 7 etc)
Why are you singling out TCL?

  • +1

Seen in store. Screen is really good. Yep next black friday.

    • -1

Don't forget last black friday was the worst ever. No decent deals.

      • I got the TCL 75 C845 during Black Friday/ Cyber Monday sales for an all time low, including cashback. There were lots of TCL deals. They were also heavily discounted when they ran out the 2023 models early this year.

      • +1

        Eh, I got my c845 85" for $2400

        Loving it

This tv as far as brightness and dimming zones to is a solid step.

But I rarely use my tv at full brightness unless a movie

Finally got my 85C855 partially installed with Sonos Arc and sub. I don't know what it is, but the Arc never sounded soooo good till now. I swear it feels like I'm in a cinema with its superb sight and sound and watching a concert video, feels like I'm right there. This is simply…. WOW!!

    • I'm having the opposite experience with my 65C855. ARC isn't working at all with my existing JBL Bar 5.1, which was working fine with my old Samsung.

      • +1

I think they're talking about the Sonos Arc which is a soundbar model. Not sure what they were thinking with the name…

    • May I ask how free to air TV looks on it? How is the upscaling from 1080p or 720p content?

  • Tried price matching with JB chat no luck. Was keen to order one today!

    • +1

What was the reason for not price matching?

      • +2

They said because the tv was on back order.

    • Really? That's very surprising. I would go in store.

      • +2

Because the tv was on back order. I'll wait sure that deal will come back again soon.

never thought I'd see a day a TCL brand product would attract such a premium. my experience with TCL was appalling, and support is just a fraud style waste of time. was happy to get rid of the TV

    • This is a miniled panel… compare a jap/korean manufacturers pricing with miniled…

      • so? I had annoying static in the audio output, whatever was the source (live TV or app, or HDMI). lodged a support request, and after 3 or 4 back and forth I got a rude technician sent to my home, with very basic English and not sure if any technical knowledge. after 30 minutes he left, and next day support ticket was closed saying that the problem is with my external speakers even though it was clearly displayed that plugging those into anything else other than that TCL TV didn't result in any static.

after that support just plain stopped responding, I turned to JB Hi-Fi where this crap was purchased, and was told "you're on your own mate, deal with the manufacturer"

you get what you pay for, all I sm saying. yeah, their products are cheaper, but as usual you get the quality you pay for.

    • Similar to the rise of Hyundai. Started dodgy but improved

  • I got a new 85" Sony XR85 X90K TV last years model for $2200 just a couple of months ago. Seems expensive for TCL to me.

    • Isn't that a 2022 mobel?

    • X90K is a 2022 model tho…where did you get it "new" from?

      • Probably floor model lmfao
People being proud f catching these 'bargains' and comparing them with brand new TVs never cease to amaze me

    • +2

this TCL model beats the Sony Bravia 7, a TV that costs over 4k in 85"

    • That isn't miniLED

  • Should i get 75" TCL for $2700 or the 75" samsung QN90D for $2600 through the samsung EDU store?

    • +5

Pay $242 extra and get 85" TCL

    Showing 2768 now… Pretty good.

    • +2

great price. if only they had the 98in on sale too

  • In this thread itself I see around 5-6 unique posts about bad experience with TCL. Product reviews has a lot of them as well. I understand all big/popular brands will have a lot of negative reviews, but more I check forums, reviews and posts, the less confident it makes me to go ahead with the purchase.
On the contrary, I took a gamble with the 'box damaged' sony ebay sale 3.5 years ago buying an OLED and it has been the best purchase so far.
Great price but still on the sidelines with the TCL :(

  • Bought it $2748 and delivery in 3 weeks. Upgrading from LG C7 OLED which I had terrible experience with pixel burn in.
