  • Hows the quality of these panels? Seems like an affordable alternative to getting a UST projector and screen?

    • +1

please anyone correct me if I'm wrong about any of this

The C655 is the lower end panel of the latest generation (last year) so the C655/C755/C855 all share the super speedy and responsive processor which makes the menus really quick.

But the panel itself is lower end, so the C755 and C855 are MiniLED with the higher number having more dimming zones, the C655 is not classified as MiniLED which is mostly marketing but it does have around 100ish dimming zones which is significantly less than the 400-1300 dimming zones depending on size of the c755 and the 1300-2000 zimming zones of the c855.

I would assume the C655 panel is as good if not insignificantly worse than the C755/C855's panel, likely just worse brightness and blooming performance than the higher end models. So if having 98" is super important id definitely say the C655 is worth it.

I have a C855 and it is beautiful

      • -2

It's significantly worse. I would never touch a poverty pack model that large. Picture quality should always be priority over screen size.

        • Is this coming from a place of reference like have you seen the panel? I've personally seen the c755 and c855 and the c735 they're really nice. It's possible the c6xx is alot worse but I doubt it?

        • +1

I have a 65inch lg oled and 85inch tcl c755. Prefer the bigger screen for 4K content

      • I have a 75" C655 and I'm more than happy with it… but it's a bit small, so I've got an 85" ordered.
I'm not a (australian for masturbator) (profanity) like some others…. just straight fact.

I bought this in the last deal as an upgrade from an ancient Samsung plasma. My only other recent reference point is a 2021 Samsung Frame TV and I'm extremely happy with my 98" TCL. Fits my large living room nicely though you definitely need a large room for the TV. My kids think it's like going to the cinema every time we watch a movie. If you're upgrading from an old TV youll be happy especially with the size. If you're expecting high end OLED quality then this isn't for you. It's not a $20k TV, it's sub $3k. For the average person this TV is excellent. To me the image quality and brightness is good, no complaints. Main issue is finding a suitable wall mount for a reasonable price. It's an odd VESA pattern and also given the size and weight not easy to find. I got this one from Kogan (disclosure I was a Kogan affiliate but haven't been for probably a year, doesn't influence my recommendations or not)

It does stick out heaps but I guess better for airflow.

Well-put. Only purchase this if you're coming from a relic as you won't have high expectations.

Don’t you mean might wanna read this before not buying?

    • +1

Oooh this explains so much, I’m never buying these brands again …

      • The thing is though, it's not the first time Hisense are in hot water. They've been taken to fair trading more times than I can count. Also, their previous call centre manager was sent to jail for embezzlement lol. The brand has scam written all over it.

    • Honestly, a 98 inch screen for 3k is enough of a red flag for me tbh.

    • +2

I've read it… and it won't make the slightest difference to me buying a TCL.

    • TV advertising has always been deceptive. I used to sell them and the amount of false marketing around things like upscaling was ridiculous.

If you use this article as justification to never buy TCL, you might as well just never buy a TV from anyone.

  • Wow! Great post. Got the c855 and its nothing short of stupendous. I am enjoying watching movies so very much more now and in particular, sci-fi.

I could just imagine what a 98 would do compared to an 85 incher. 😵‍💫

    • +3

C855 is vastly superior to C655. Having a screen that large on a budget model will only make the picture look worse. I don't know why they bother making entry level junk so large.

      • +4

Bogans who understand enough to know that one number is bigger than another, but nothing else.

        • Their tarket market. Walks in and asks for the largest and cheapest TV.

          • @Maths Debater: I'm waiting for a 98" Bauhn TV at Aldi for $1999. Will put on the other wall to give me options when watching from the chaise lounge

      • -1

Which TCLs do you/ have you owned, or actually looked closely at in real life?

  • +2

Set up C755 last weekend, $3650 delivered & wall mounted (paid $120 for the wall mount - odd 500x600 pattern).

Looks great, I'd probably say it's worth it over the C655.

  • Bugger I missed out on all the C755 and C855 deals last week. Hopefuly something again soon!

  • My daughter has a C655 55" in her bedroom and is very happy with it. The inbuilt speakers are good enough that she has never expressed any interest in a soundbar. Of course she's only 14 so she isn't as fussy as I am when it comes to sound and picture quality :-)
I have a Sony 7 series 75" in the master bedroom and I must admit when I see the TCL in her room I wonder if I overspent on the Sony. I've always prioritised screen size over picture quality, going back to a 50 inch rear projection TV when others were buying 32 inch LCDs.

  • Not sure about the C655 but I had the 98" C855 delivered last week.
Very impressive considering my eyes were adjusted to an LG OLED for six years.

    • Really tossing up between C4 65" and C855 75". What are your thoughts on the difference? I mainly watch sports so I bit worried about the TCL in that capacity.

      • +1

Not as big a difference as I was expecting honestly. The blacks on non-OLEDs have come a long way.
After updating the firmware to the latest beta version which unlocks some additional settings, I've been able to closely match the C855's HDR output to my C9.

Also nice not having to worry about static images anymore.

I haven't tested much sport content but if you have any Youtube links, I can compare blur & judder. I typically turn motion smoothing off too.

      • The only way you're going to notice blooming is in a pitch black room. If you have a bias lighting, it will look a lot better. Personally, I would much rather put up with a tiny amount of blooming with superior peak brightness than no blooming and inferior peak brightness. Pick your poison.

  • Thought this was saying to wall mount because requires 30km viewing distance

  • +1

dont think there is a wall that can fit this in my home, might mount on ceiling

    • +3

Look for a deal on a larger home.

    • That's OK, considering it's The Good Guys they will just nailgun the TV to the wall/ceiling

  • What's better to install? A window or this telly a la Back to the Future II?

  • +2

To those praising this model like it's great value for money, have a look at the black uniformity.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/tcltvs/comments/1fss93e/cloud_like_…

And if that's not enough, here's some vignetting.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/tcltvs/comments/1fs1dyj/c655_dark_c…

    • It's sub $3k installed for 98". Reset expectations.

How often do you view static images on your TV and especially static images of a single colour?
Show me another $3k 98" without these problems and lll shut up

      • +1

I agree with you. I'm not undermining the brand, merely educating people on what to expect to avoid disappointment 🤷‍♂️

  • Offtop, any idea why Sony TVs haven't been on the special for almost a year?
