On sale is the new Redmi Pad Pro that's intended to be a mid-range tablet compared to the Xiaomi Pad series. This one has multiple RAM/storage variants including 6GB/128GB, 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB with the colours Grey, Blue and Green available. Unlike the Xiaomi Pad series this one has a microSD slot too, so I don't think the 8GB/256GB variant is necessary.
This one is excellent for media consumption due to having a 12.1" 2.5K 120Hz Dolby Vision display with 600 nits of brightness, Widevine L1 DRM for Netflix HD, quad Dolby Atmos speakers and Bluetooth 5.2 with LDAC/aptX/aptX-HD codec support. For gaming the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 is more than capable and the 10000mAh battery is enough for 12.1 hours of nonstop HD video playback.
Other features include HyperOS (Android 14) with Google Play, 6GB/8GB RAM, 128GB/256GB UFS 2.2 storage, microSD support up to 1.5TB, Corning Gorilla Glass 3, USB Type-C with 33W fast charging, 8MP front + 8MP rear cameras and WiFi 6. Full specs can be found here.
The only real notable downside I've noticed is that there's no GPS. Since this is running the CN ROM without a fake/dodgy Global ROM you'll need to enable Google Services in settings before Google Play will work.
- Apply the coupon 24SS25 or SS25 at checkout
AU$ based on current Mastercard rate and GST inclusive.
How to get the AU$ price in the title with PayPal:
Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:
- Set the website currency to USD
- Checkout with PayPal
- Select your card with no international fees
- Click "See currency options"
- Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
- Proceed with checkout
Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate depending on the card.
Nice write-up, another downside with CN ROM is that you don't get the monthly Google Play security patch level updates (that you can force-check for on global ROMs), as these are tied to the HyperOS updates.
But pretty good deal for the price tbh
